With their grandfather in a coma the mansion was quiet as everyone was having gloomy days unaware of how bad he had gotten. Percy spent most of his days drinking as he had lost one parent from an illness he feared to lose another. It them seem to get worse as days became weeks, weeks into months, and it had been a whole year since the incident. The now 8 year old Fort was growing more anxious afraid of how long his grandfather would stay this way. Even though he was young he had seemed to close himself off from others. He wasn't his usual self since his grandfather fell into a coma. With his dark brown hair that had grown longer now it seemed to show his soft curls as they started to cover his face slightly it gave him a more intense look. He soon began to practice his swordsmanship as it was tradition in their family. They had been known to have the best of knights in their bloodline he couldn't fail his ancestors.
During this time the children grew closer. Rhett would often train with Fort even though he was a year younger than him. Yet something seemed off about him as he was known to be quiet he had become even more quiet and more gloomy than usual. Sometimes even Reyna would train with them. The royal guards would often compare her to Morrigan the greatest queen to rule the land and the strongest as she trained and fought in many battles. From the way she fought, to the way she held her sword, to even her aura it all resembled those of the powerful Morrigan. Even though she was a year younger than Fort but months older than Rhett she exceeded her brothers slightly. They trained often out in the garden instead of studying so that's where they would usually be found at.
MAIN GARDEN PRESENT DAY
MY LORDS MY LORDS HE IS AWAKE! A maid ran frantically towards then screaming they couldn't quite make out what she was saying, but it did catch all of their attentions as they turned in her direction.
What is it Anne why are you running and screaming? Reyna asked with a look of confusion on her face.
My Lords your grandfather... your grandfather. Anne tried to speak as she was out of breathe from the long run it took her a while.
My grandfather what Anne spit it out. Fort spoke as he began to panic at what would be her response.
Your Grandfather he is.... he is awake. He finally woke up from his coma he is awake and has called for you all to go to his room this instant. She said as she fell to the ground catching her breathe. The children looked at each other making sure they were hearing correctly they then sprinted towards the mansion. Fort in the lead with Rhett and Reyna tailing behind him.
He pushed the doors open to his room seeing his father sitting on the edge of his bed as their grandfather turned slowly towards the door. He raised his hand directing the children to come closer. Fort hesitated at first as it hadn't quite clicked in his brain that his grandfather was finally awake. Reyna pushed Fort aside as she ran towards his bed embracing him so tightly and weeping so softly that she hadn't noticed that she was crying. Wolf had started to try and comfort the child as he could feel her pain from missing him dearly. Rhett had always been taller than Reyna so he stood behind looking at them when Percy suddenly placed his hand on his shoulder he whispered in his ear and in that moment Rhett's attitude changed dramatically. It was as if he had turned so cold that he even had a deathly look in his eyes. He excused himself from the room and walked away. Wolf had given him a strange look as he had never seen his son behave in that matter and why was his grandson so upset as well.
What did you tell him Percy? Wolf said angrily as he gave his son his infamous deathly stare.
Nothing father I just reminded him of something that all. He said with a smirk as he then excused himself from the room.
What is going on with your father Fort and Reyna he asked concerned.
Well ever since you became ill father started to drink and he has been talking down on Rhett as of late only upsetting him. He has even beaten Rhett's mother and him. We try to help, but Rhett refuses to accept our help. Reyna said sadly with more tears running down her face.
This can't be, my son has changed for the worse since I got sick. It could be since his mother died from illness as well, but that is no excuse to take it out on your child nor a woman. He said angrily wanting to go beat his son to show him what it means to be a real man.
Fort go retrieve Merrick for me I have something to discuss with him and Reyna go get your brother I need to have a word with him.
Yes Grandfather I'll let him know that you would like to have a word with him. The two children walked out the room to do what their grandfather asked of them.
What do you think is going to happen now? Asked Reyna as she looked up at her older brother with concern written all over her face.
I'm not quite sure Reyna we can only hope that grandfather fixes everything so that we can go back to our old lives. But you shouldn't worry about father laying a hand on you I will protect you and so will Rhett. He said placing his hand on her head as he ruffled her hair making it look a mess. She smiled so brightly to him knowing he would always protect her.
Then sadness rushed over her face as she knew her brothers would protect her from their drunk father but who would protect her brothers. She worried most about Rhett as he had been getting the bad end of the stick as of late. Him and his mother, what are they to do now she thought to herself.
