The time has finally come to make the trip to Spain; to celebrate the wedding of Annabelle and Miguel and the birthday of Eva. It was early August and everyone was at the airport. They decided to bring Spud and Tater along too since they were just as much a part of the family as anyone. Leo and Eva were at a café, enjoying some coffee before the flight. "This is so exciting!" Eva exclaimed as she took a sip. "I know. I finally get to see where my little Eva has been living all her life." Leo said. Eva smiled. "You know, I have a good friend named Lily that still lives in Spain." "Oh, really?" Leo said. "We had our differences, and we fought. But we made up just before I left." "That's good. You should never hold a grudge, Eva." "I know. It's just—well, it's a long story." "Just remember that no one's perfect; so therefore you should not expect or demand perfection out of anyone." Leo stated. "I know, but she had a bad habit of being rude to me." "But she realized her mistake; correct?" Leo asked. "Yeah." Eva said as Leo smiled. "Then that's all that matters." Eva also smiled. "Yeah, you're right!" "Life is lived to learn lessons. And Heaven is lived to forever enjoy the benefits of having learned those lessons." Eva was taken a back. "You're so wise." She said.
It was time to board the plane. Everyone took their seats. The flight attendants went over the emergency instructions and before they knew it the plane took off. A few quiet hours passed by and now it was twilight. The rich, golden light beamed through the windows of the plane as they passed through wispy clouds. "If only it were us that were getting married." Leo said gazing at her. Eva looked up at him and blushed. Maybe it was the evening sun reflecting off of his beautiful, golden locks; but Eva suddenly had butterflies in her stomach. Leo wrapped his arm around her and began to slowly drift off to sleep. As did Eva.
Soon it was night and the stars twinkled all around them. The moon was shining in all it's strength. "Eva." Leo said suddenly as he opened his eyes. "Hmm?" Eva replied being awakened from her slumber. "I love you." Suddenly, the plane began to tremble violently. An engine had just burst and suddenly, to everyone's absolute horror, the plane was falling headlong into the ocean. There were blood-curling screams heard all around as everyone clung to their seats. Just before the plane hit the ocean, Eva took one last glance at Leo. He was completely calm as he looked back at her. Leo smiled serenely. "I love you." He said once more before the plane exploded in the water. Eva felt a violent thud and a strong wave of heat come over her. She heard ringing in her ears as she felt herself quickly fading away. She then slowly whited out.
After what felt like an hour to Eva; she slowly began to open her eyes. She saw what could only be described as a white, bright, misty, empty space. "W-where am I?" Eva thought sleepily as she felt herself floating in mid-air. "You have died." A voice replied. Suddenly, Leo appeared before her. "L-Leo?" Eva began to tremble as tears filled her eyes. "Eva." "Leo!" Eva exclaimed as she embraced him with all her might. "What happened?! Are we really dead?" "Yes." Leo said as he held her. "The plane really did crash. Everyone died on impact. Including us." Eva gasped and then began to weep. Leo caressed her tenderly. "It's alright. Don't be afraid." Leo said reassuringly. After Eva finally calmed down a bit, she asked, "Is this Heaven?" "No, this is Limbo." "But-why are we in Limbo? Did we do something wrong?" "No. It's because-" Leo paused, then said, "Because you have to go back." Eva grew wide-eyed. "What do you mean?" "Eva." Leo said holding her cheek. "I'm not who you think I am. And, neither are you." Leo said looking deeply into her eyes. "Huh?" "Eva, you must go back. The world is in trouble, and it's up to you to save it." "But-how is the world in trouble?" Eva was confused. "Because it's ending. There is about to be an economic ruin to such a degree that everyone will resort to killing one another just to survive. There will be nothing left. That is why you must live: to save this world." "Me?! How? Where do I even begin? What do I-" "I promise Eva, I will be with you. I will never leave you." As Leo said this, he began to fade away. "N-no, don't do this to me! Leo!"
As she screamed his name, she jolted awake in a rescue boat. "She's alive!" Eva heard a voice say. There were flashlights beaming in her eyes as paramedics were attending to her. "It's a miracle!" She heard another voice say. Eva felt so disorientated that she passed out again. The boat signaled for a helicopter to take Eva to an emergency hospital. Everyone aboard the plane died that night; except for Eva. She spent the next three days asleep on a hospital bed; suddenly, all alone in the world.
As Eva lay asleep, breaking news swept across the globe. Reports emerged of complete bankruptcy in every continent. For the majority of the world's crops have failed this harvest; and everyone was terribly concerned about being fed. Therefore, nobody spent money on things they didn't need anymore. Terror gripped every soul, and the government was on the move to search for a solution. As the media frenzied over the matter; the government's top officials met in a secret location to hold a council meeting. "There was barely any food that grew this harvest!" Exclaimed Sergeant Major Marshall. "The weather is acting very strangely. It is so warm outside that the fruits and vegetables are refusing to grow. Whatever rain the plants are getting, the heat is evaporating. And without plants, we cannot raise cattle." Added Vice President Henry. "So then, what is the solution? Are we to just sit back and let anarchy take over?" Asked the President. "No kidding. Without enough food, everyone will eventually fight to the death for what's left of it." Said Marshall. "Then again, once fall comes along the food should begin to grow again. Until then, everyone will just have to be patient." Said Henry. "We'll also have to start enforcing food rations." Marshall added.
"If I may." A figure appeared from the shadows. "Who are you?" Asked the President. "I am Doctor Lee. I was invited here when I sent some very important documents to the White House. Documents that just may offer you the solution to our problem." "Really? You have the solution?" Asked the President, rather unamused. "Yes, I do." Lee replied. "Well then, by all means. Do tell us." Said Marshall. "There is a girl who I am convinced is not human." Everyone in the council laughed him to scorn. "Now, hear me out." Said Lee as he slid the documents towards the President. "A girl named Eva Salvadores survived the roller coaster accident at Drasney World in Florida last May. I was her Doctor." "How did she survive?" Asked Marshall. "They found her on top of a tree, along with a boy who also survived." Said Lee. "Okay, so perhaps they were flung off the roller coaster just in the nick of time." Marshall suggested. "Perhaps, but the thing is; there was not so much as a scratch on either one of them." Lee said. The President began to curiously read through the documents upon hearing this. "And if that were not enough to convince you, Eva just survived a plane crash yesterday." Said the Doctor. "Wait, you don't mean flight 77 do you? The one that exploded into flames in the middle of the ocean?" "That's the one." Everyone gasped. "Boats and helicopters arrived at the scene of the crash after the mayday call. After what they saw, nobody bothered to look for survivors. But then, they saw Eva; floating in the water about 100 ft away from the plane. They couldn't believe her body was still intact. They pulled her into the boat; where, to everyone's utter surprise, her eyes suddenly opened." There was an uproar among the officials until the President reassured them, "He is telling the truth. These documents are official."
Everyone held their breath. "B-but sir! It's absolutely impossible to survive a crash like that!" Marshall exclaimed. "I know. But she did." Said the President solemnly. Everyone began to murmur amongst themselves. "So, we're just supposed to believe that she's a supernatural being?" Asked Henry. "Do we have a choice?" Marshall asked sarcastically. "Listen." Said the President. "This girl could end up being a blessing or a curse. The question now is: will she help us in our time of need or not?" "We could test her. To see if she's good or evil." Henry recommended. "What's the point in that? Why not just ask her to help us?" Marshall replied. "Because if she is a Deity then we are at her mercy, anyways." Said the President soberly. "Ladies and gentlemen, God is trying to get our attention. And, we need to figure out what she wants from us."
