I wake up in a cold sweat. I have been having the worst nightmares. Thank god for what ever hit my window pulling me out of that horrible dream. I opened my window really fast still a little out of it from how real it seemed.
"What is it now?" I asked.
"Can you come over here? I can't go back to sleep.". I told her to give me a minute and I would head over.
I quickly throw on my clothes and grab my backpack. I run into Jason on my way to Embers room. I get to her room pretty fast. That's when things get weird. I started to feel really weird. I was talking, but I don't remember exactly what I was saying. All I know is I left Ember alone with Xavier which shows I was clearly not thinking straight.
I got to school and that's the last thing I remember. I have about nine full hours missing from my memory. I woke up in my bed with blood on my clothes. I had dirt all over me, but no clue how any of this happened. I called Ember and she was sobbing saying that Xavier is missing and she has no clue how this all happened. She told me to meet her at the woods by the park. I cleaned up and ran out of my house to meet her. Ember showed me to the tree house that Xavier built, she explained everything as she remembered it.
I had her call the cops and tell them everything she told me. The police put out a missing persons report on Xavier. They then drove us home and told us to keep an eye out for anything suspicious. All I know is that I need to find out what I did in the nine hours that I can't remember. I text some people from school asking if they saw me acting weird or doing anything out of character. They responded saying that I left school early. That is definitely not like me.
What could possibly make me act that way? I find it really weird that Xavier goes missing in the exact time I have memory loss and Ember gets knocked out. Whoever is doing this has to have contact with all of us somehow. I need to find a way to retrace my steps and find out what I did today. The only thing is there is no way I can do it alone. I head over to Ember's house and tell her everything I remember.
Ember looks at me like I have gone insane.
"You're telling me you were covered in dirt and blood, but you did not tell this to me or the police." does she not hear how guilty that makes me sound.
"I want to get all my ducks in a row before I say anything to anyone else. If I go telling people that I don't remember nine hours of the day and woke up with blood on me, they are going to think I have something to do with Xavier missing." all of the sudden Ember starts backing away from me.
"Do you have something to do with Xavier going missing? I mean you were upset about me and him skipping school together. I didn't think you would go as far as to hurt him though." the way she was accusing me of something so evil made me so mad.
"How could you even think that I would do that! I honestly thought you knew me better than that Ember." Ember stared at me in disbelief.
"I thought I could trust you Trystin. Just get out of my house. I'm going to start looking into Xavier's disappearance tomorrow if you're really not guilty you can join me." Ember yells at me while pointing towards her door.
I can not believe the girl I have always loved thinks so low of me. Why would I hurt my best friend? I know he also had feelings for Ember, but it is up to her to choose between us. The fact that she just accused me of hurting him makes her choice pretty clear though. I am still going to help Ember search for Xavier. Once we find him he can tell her what happened. I am going to go to bed I can not handle anything else today.
I feel sweat drip down my forehead. The ground beneath me feels almost wet. I open my eyes I see familiar trees. I stand up fast I am in the woods behind the park. I look down at my hands they are covered in blood. I have to get out of here this doesn't make any sense. Sprinting down the path to the park. I can see the exit what I see when I reach the exit makes me stop dead in my tracks. Now I know this can not be real. My body hanging I looked dead.
This has to be a dream I need to wake up. I start running as fast as I can to my house. When I opened my front door and went in it was not my house. I was in a building I didn't recognize. I think it's some kind of storage building. I saw four chairs, three of the chairs had people in them. The one left empty made my heart sink and goosebumps travel up my spine. Who was that chair for? Then I heard I loud bang.
I jolted awake feeling more confused than ever. Then I hear the loud banging again.
"Open your freaking door Trystan!" Ember yelled while slamming her fist on my red wooden door. I quickly got up and unlocked the door letting her in. Ember looked me up and down then turned her head around. "Trystan put some clothes on please." Ember was as red as a tomato.
I threw on some shorts and apologized. I forgot I had fell asleep right after my shower last night.
"I did some digging yesterday and I think I have a few clues to help us find Xavier." I don't know why Ember raised and eyebrow at me when I said that.
"Is there something wrong?" females confuse me so much. Does she want me to help or not?
"No, just surprised you finally got over yourself." she said while rolling her eyes. Well that confirms it I am not telling her that my "digging" was actually a crazy dream.
