Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"You know, your teacher called today." Ma said as I opened the front door. "Yep Ma, I know." I groaned, holding the phone with my shoulder, I stepped aside to let Grey-Man which he does, hesitantly. "Why are you failing chemistry, then?" She said in her I'm concerned but still mad at you, voice.

I roll my eyes at her overreaction to my grade. "Ma, it's fine. I'm not even failing, it's just a C." I said, slowly shutting the door, before looking at it. "Mr. Harrison called me today, Parker. He said that because of your last test, you have a 40." Shit. I forgot to check this week. I sigh, leading Grey-Man towards the living room.

The house was never bad. It was nice, in a nice neighborhood, with nice neighbors, and nice grass. Everything was nice, was fake. I walked into the kitchen, and away from Grey-Man. "Ma, I'm sorry, I'll do better. I just have been so uptight about that dumb English project due tomorrow- "I start, but Grey-Man cuts me off from the living room. "Today!" He yells and I sigh, knowing my Ma heard him. "Do you have someone over?" She asks, in her scolding voice. Today's going to be a long night. "Yeah ma, just Grey-Man though. The busses left us." I say, glaring at him through the opening to the living room. He notices me and flips me off.

"Oh, well tell him hi. I will drop him off when I get home." She says as I hear some soft footsteps coming from upstairs. I sigh, just fucking great. "Yeah ma, I will buy it," I say, not giving her a chance to respond before I hang up on her. I know I will get yelled at, but I had other problems to deal with. I quickly run back into the living room, jumping onto the loveseat.

"When will she get here?" He asks, setting his feet up onto the coffee table. I glare at him. "Well, she will be here as soon as you get your nasty shoes off the coffee table," I say viciously. He looks at me with a questioning look, trying to see a crack through my glare, I don't give him the easy way out.

After a moment or two, he slowly takes his feet off of the coffee table, leaning back in the recliner. "I'm proud. After two years, you have finally learned how to be rude." He says sarcastically, looking up at the ceiling. "Fuck off," I say, acting like how I would with any other person. I can't have a break to be myself until she leaves.

We both must have heard the pattering of footsteps, since we both look at each other, before up at the ceiling. "Ignore her." I groaned, knowing how this will end. "Her? You have a sister?" He asks, looking at me with a sneaky grin. "Fuck off," I say again, this time placing a hand on top of my forehead, before combing my fingers through my hair.

"God, I thought she was supposed to be here next week." I groaned to myself, leaning my head on the wall. "What's her name?" He asks, his voice suddenly becoming closer. "June." Little Bitch June. "Well, you seem to love, what's up with that?" He asks as if he's some copycat of fucking Dr. Phil.

"She is perfect, in the worst way. Ma has always been proud of her. Finished school at 16, finished Harvard at 19, and always have a boyfriend for at least 2 years." I groan again. "Damn, I would hate her too if that was my sibling." Grey-Man agrees as his voice becomes distant once again. Curious, I open my eyes, to see him pacing, with his phone in his hands, though he was looking at me.

"Don't ask it," I say, knowing he's still going to ask it. "Is she cute?" He asks, smirking. I roll my eyes again, glaring at him. "Fuck off, or I with personally kick you out." I threaten as he raises his hands in surrender. "So, you at least have a soft spot for her." He says, before slumping back down in his seat.

The sound of tires crunching on the rocks outside, made us both stand to our feet. I make my way to the door, unlocking it before walking outside, with socks on. Another pair of stained socks to throw away. I walk down the white, wooden, steps, to reach the car. Though the rocks feel uncomfortable under my feet, I ignore it.

"Hey ma- "I start, but she quickly shuts it down. "Don't talk to me, at least until Grey-Man leaves." She says, grabbing her purse. Her scrubs have SpongeBob designs, and I smile at the memories of the cartoon. Ma always loved kids, so she easily became a pediatrician, like it was as easy as choosing what shoes you pick.

I nodded, not saying a word as she stomps past me, obviously mad. Her cup of coffee and tote bag in one hand, files, and other paperwork in the other. I ran up to her, passing her so that she can get past me and into the house.

Once inside, she walks into the kitchen, smiling at Grey-Man in the process. She places her tote bag, coffee cup, and files on the counter, still glaring at me. "Ma, I'm sorry," I say, knowing that Grey-Man can hear.

"Zip it, I'll talk to you when I get back. Until then, use that small brain of yours to try and understand why you aren't doing well in chemistry." She says, walking back out into the living room, turning to Grey-Man. "Come on sweetheart, let's get you home." She says, smiling at him like he's a cute baby. "Yes, ma'am." He says, standing up to follow her out. He looks back at me, with a confused look.

I just shrug, letting her take him outside. Oh, I'm screwed.
