Grey-man and I waited for about 15 minutes before we started to get restless, the hot Arizona heat already settling into our bones. We weren't talking, to phase out to even try to speak. "You boys need a ride?" Someone asked us, as we both shoot up at the scare.
Thomas.
"Are you so-" I start, but the asshole next to me answers. "Yes, please!" Grey-Man begs, and Thomas laughs. "Alright, I know it's hot, so come on." He says, grabbing our bags, before handing them back to us. The three of us, walk to the parking lot, as Thomas fiddles with his phone. He lifts it to his ear, and me and Grey-Man look at each other, suddenly worried.
"Hey!" He says, then there was some silence, and we heard a muffled reply. "Is it ok if some of my friends take a ride with us?" Does he ask as Grey-Man raises an eyebrow and mouths the word, friend? I roll my eyes at him.
"Thanks." He says, before hanging up is a phone. He turns around at us and smiles. "Ok, he should be over," He starts, looking around the parking lot. "There." He says, pointing to a car, before starting to walk over. I look at Grey-Man, warily, and shrugs. We follow swiftly behind.
About halfway to the car, someone steps out. This Mexican boy with black hair parted at one side. He waves at us, and Thomas waves back. Once we finally make it to the car, he smiles at us. "I'm Alex." He says, leaning on the car. "I'm Parker, and this is Grey-Ma- "I start, but Grey-Man cuts me off.
"Lucas, I'm Lucas." He says, smiling at Alex. "Nice to meet you. I see you already met my boyfriend." He says chuckling. I can see Thomas's face-palming from my peripheral vision. I could tell Grey-Man was at a loss of words, so I had to pick up this conversation. I had a feeling he was dating someone!
Don't be awkward. Don't be awkward. Don't be awkward.
"Uh, yeah. Met him after soccer." I said, trying to be as confident as possible, which isn't working. What happened to popular me! Act like your popular!!!! "Oh really, you play soccer." He says kind of shocked. "Uh, babe. It's hot. Can we get into the car?" He said as all eyes go to him.
"Oh, yeah! Sorry about that." He says, letting Grey-Man through to get to the back of the car. Thomas and I walk to the other side, me getting in behind him. I close the door, getting settled in a nice car. "So, what sport do you play, Lucas?" Alex asks, as he shifts gears in the car, and starts to back out.
Not remembering that's his name, he stays quiet, until he remembers, and starts to stammer. "Oh- I um, I play football. We were lucky that we had practice on the same day." Grey-Man says, getting his act together. God, when was the last time I called Grey-Man Lucas?
Thomas and I stay quiet, as Alex and Lucas talk about Football. Until Thomas cuts in, saying, "Uh, Parker, where do you live?" He asks, not looking at me. "Uh, in Springfield. The neighborhood." I explain, "I can give you the address." It was quiet for a minute, before Alex hands me his phone, unlocked.
"Can you type it in?" He asks, still looking at the road. "Um, yeah," I say, quickly going to the Google Maps app. As I'm typing in the address, the phone lightly vibrates, but no one seems to notice besides me. I ignore it until the notification pops up on the top of the screen. It's a text.
Hi Baby! When are you going to come back to my apartment! I'm lonely.
I sat there, staring at the text. Not knowing what to do, I swipe the notification away and kept typing my address in. I hand Alex back his phone, before leaning back, still frozen. I look over at Grey-Man, to find him staring at me, confused. "Are you ok?" He whispers, just low enough that they can't hear.
I look back at him, before sighing. "Yeah. Did you text your ma that you are already picked up?" I ask him, shifting the attention. "Oh shit! Thanks' for reminding me. He says, before grabbing his phone quickly. I look up at Alex, then Thomas. On the console, Alex is holding Thomas's hand, and I almost gag. That's when the reality finally hit me.
Holy shit. Alex cheated on Thomas.
