Chapter 22 - Day 4

The bandage around Crescent wrist is snug. Her knuckles are wrapped tightly, and she tests out her bending with the bandage. It's smooth. She smiles gently and wanders off to the arena. The arena had been divided into 5 today, with the 10 top elites battling eachother for the final two positions against the champion tomorrow. Crescent nods at Crécelle, and Crécelle smiles back. She didn't hate Crescent anymore. She was just a bit anxious of her at first.

Crescent sits down on the ground. She pats the earth around her, and she feels the water on the side. She wasn't an earthbender but she sure knew how to redirect lightning. The announcer says their things and when the countdown begins, Crescent and Crécelle both go into a lunge position. When the final number rings, Crescent bolts past Crécelle and she slices her on the cheek. Crécelle is taken aback, and she shoots her lightning at the glass in surprise. It bounces back towards her, and she hisses out in pain. Crescent flips off the wall, and she freezes Crécelle in ice.

It comes as a surprise to the crowd. Crescent had barely any water near her, yet she managed to freeze Crecélle in water. It's an old move in the book that the old waterbender Katara had used against princess Azula. She rips the brooch off, and tosses it into the bucket with ease. This had to be one of the shortest battles in the school's history. Crécelle's face burns red and she tries her best to muster up a smile. What had Crescent been training in lately? She was so agile. She moved like the wind and had such scary stealth.

Crescent wipes her sweat and watches from the now clear glass. She stares at Astaria who stands victorious. Estelle lays on the ground and Astaria helps her up. Even though the two were claimed rivals usually, there was no space for petty games. It was a battle, and you could only win if you held the power. Astaria smiles and offers her a hand. Estelle gets pulled up, and Crescent nods at Estelle. Her agility was great but her skill was mediocre compared to the others.

Mint and Hatsuki finish up on their end and Mint comes out victorious. He smiles and nods his head in apology. Ice helps Hatsumi up in the other room and Hatsumi smiles at him. He had won fair and square. His bending was to be commended, he had improved astronomically since a year ago.

"You did amazing" Crécelle smiles at her.

"Thank you. I'm sorry about such a quick loss," Crescent shakes her head.

Crécelle grins. It was fine, her parents weren't forcing her to become champion anyways. She had been raised with standards but her parents agreed that she wouldn't have to become champion against her will. Her family held control over the school and that was more than enough power to run the school. They had yet to have someone defeat them in battle.

Crescent's sore all over. She had used her arms to their max and she needed to heal. Her next battle would be in an hour. She nods when Astaria enters the changing rooms and the two get healing. She heals quickly and when Astaria finishes she's refreshed. The bell chimes indicating that the two had only 5 minutes left to warm up. Water is moved, Fire is generated, and Air is controlled, the two are ready.

Crescent and Astaria bow at eachother. Astaria goes into a lunge position and Crescent positions her palms facing down. When the final is called out, Crescent shoots herself into the air. Astaria missed Crescent, and she stays in the air for the majority of the fight. She can't freeze her in water, and she can't do anything with air. She traps her in an air sphere, and she reaches for her brooch. She clasps it successfully, and Astaria tries to fight against the whirling wind speeds around her. She draws water from outside and tries to make a hole but she's stuck. Crescent tosses the brooch into the bucket and the bell rings.

Astaria's hair is messed up when she walks out. Crescent bows in apology and Astaria shakes her head. She smiles and asks her to teacher her waterbending sometime. She would use her own tactics against her next time. Crescent agrees, and the two help eachother heal.

In the other arena Ice defeats Mint. It was close, and they were head to head but Ice ended up being quicker to toss than Mint was. Ice helps Mint up from the earth, and he draws some water to help him heal. He nods, and spots the other winner lose to the champion. He grimaces and hopes that he would be able to defeat his brother. He gazes at Crescent and her brooch, and he sighs. Tomorrow would be a whole rollercoaster.

"How did the battling go today?" Kenma peers at her. Crescent grins.

"Wonderful. I trapped a dualbender in ice and the other one in air. It was wonderful!" Crescent sticks her hands out to animate the fight.

"As hard as fighting me?"

"Never." She peers at him and smiles. "That new champion is really cool. He has such smooth bending!"

Kenma gets up from his seat, and he gives the girl another couple minutes to get the acid out her system. She was ready to fight again. Kenma goes harsher on her than usual. She would be battling two masters tomorrow and she couldn't afford a slip-up. When she ends up pinned to the floor with her hands over her head, Kenma tilts his head to the side and unpins her brooch. She blinks innocently and smirks. He was taking too long. Her feet kick the air from under them and she flips them. She grabs his brooch and tosses it into the fruit basket.

"I win!" Crescent sticks out her tongue.

"Good thinking," Kenma smiles, and Crescent grins. "But you still lack when it comes to skill. Your agility is going to get you places though."

"Fire. Can I try flying today?" Her eyes glimmer and Kenma can't help but nod. So he works on her flying for the afternoon. Crescent falls every now and then, but she has no issue when by the end of the day. Truly a star.
