Chereads / The Academy of the Elites / Chapter 19 - Day 1

Chapter 19 - Day 1

Crescent sits on the sides of the arena. She watches the dual benders battle for the scrolls on the ceiling. The glass protects the spectators from any gas or poison, and the top of the arena has airflow to keep people alive. She watches a couple of her classmates fight down there. Everyone had ties with something, and no one was able to fly. The battle is cruel, and only 9 people she knows make it.

"Harsh isn't it? Estelle mumbles. She thinks over the time when she had to battle as a dual bender in there. Trial benders were rare, and now that she was an elite student council secretary. Their battle started tomorrow, and she couldn't afford to lose the position she had fought so hard to maintain.

"You got this" Crescent stares at the people who are cleaning up. Tournament week was known to be harsh, and it was known to be painful to people with weak wills. Nonbender scholarships were determined by grades, so there was no point in watching them parkour up. This was natural selection at the school, the weak fall and the strong rise. Crescent stares at a friend, and she runs up. "Mist!'

"Hey Cressie" Mist was a monobender. Her waterbending rivaled even the most skilled, and her ocean eyes were easy to get lost in. She was fit, and her agility was threatening. "Did you need something?"

"Good job on the scroll! Man I would've been so scared to go against you" she sighs. Mist laughs, and she lets the girl follow her to the lockers. Crescent was an enigma, she had the personality of a fox, yet somehow she was still down to earth.

"Thanks. Thanks for the extra training the other day" Mist is realistic, Crescent knows this. So when she offered to train her in parkour last moment, Mist took what she could. Crescent was the second quickest in the school according to herself, yet somehow Estelle seemed slower in her opinion. "Are you ready for tomorrow's tournament?"

"I'm ready but never enough. I have one last day of training in my neighborhood before I battle. I just hope I get to keep my title"

"You got this" Mist is sure that she was going to win. She was the quickest, and the strongest out of the people she knew.

Crescent is anxious, and she's scared that her firebending would get revealed while reaching for a scroll. She worries less about grabbing the scroll though. Her parkour was on par with Estelle's and she had no doubt that a scroll would be hers. The only question was if she'd get knocked down for dirty play when the others harm her. They would have to wait and see.

The champions' tomb is stuffy today. Kenma focuses on the air around him, and he struggles to breathe. She had gotten better. The air around them had thinned insanely, and Kenma had to airbend a sphere to breathe in. Crescent continues drawing in the particles, and she makes sure the air is suffocating around them. She packs it into a sphere, and she absorbs it.

"Well done" Kenma coughs, and he breathes in the diffused air. "You're ready to deal with the tournaments"

"Fire. Please teach me how to control it" Crescent pleads, and he's her only way to train.

Kenma stares at the girl, she was in no shape or form ready to start firebending. Her body temperature wasn't there, and she wasn't able to breathe her fire properly. Yet he stares at her. Perhaps they could try testing her limits today. He sighs, and Crescent brightens up.

"Do you know the stance?" Kenma is weary of how much she knows. Ignes and Elios could've always been training her, yet it was foreign to both of them. She holds the stance, and she breathes in and out. This was the same as airbending, it was no biggie. Her eyes and phoenix marks glow slightly, and Kenma instructs her to push out with one hand. She pushes it out, and a flame goes with it. She focuses on her body heat, and she pushes out two more gusts of fire.

Kenma stares at the fire blown out, blue. She was nearly reaching purple with that shade. She was strong, and if unnurtured, her fire could've hurt someone. Kenma sends her fire away. He positions her hands so that she's able to control it. Her fire was hot, and it nearly burned his skin. They would need Naga to test out how high her temperatures could go. He doesn't call her though, and focuses on teaching her the proper breathing techniques.

Crescent learns fast. She has 12 hours before she has to fight the rest of the elites for a scroll. Kenma trains her quickly, and she gets the ropes of firebending quickly. She's able to bend fire fluidly, and her hands are skilled. Kenma takes pride in his pupil, she had grown so much in the time he had been training her. Her golden eyes had been hidden behind the contacts he crafted for her, and she was more than ready to win champion.

Crescent is tired. Her body temperature has risen, yet somehow she's still hydrated. Perhaps it was one thing about being a fire bender and a water bender. Her elements clashed, and it was extremely hard to balance both elements. She notices how Kenma had taken a certain pride in her, and she was more than ready to win the competition. She needed to change the school and bring Kenma back to life officially. Centuries of corruption couldn't be changed in one day, but it most certainly could be with the proper team.

Water echoes through the halls of the academy. Ice sweats, and he continues bending. The cloud around him moves with him, and he sighs in assurance. He needed the chance, and he needed to defeat Mint. He needs to reclaim the title of President, and he needs to prove to his brother that he wasn't as useless as his family painted him. The arena floor is pull of shattered ice, and the boy pants. It was useless. The thought of Crescent and her agility on her first day floods his mind, and he's more than ready to show everyone how he had changed.

-(□)-

Mint focuses on the metal in front of him. The earth contents in the metal are low, yet he's able to move what he can. The metal moves, and sweat forms on his forehead. It melts, the metal becomes smooth, and Mint reshapes it. He had done it. He could finally bend other people's armor. He would become the second earthbender to ever bend the metal. He pauses his training and drinks from his water bottle. He was best friends with Ice, but it didn't mean that they had to get along all the time. He was more than ready to show Ice that he wouldn't go down easily.

-(✿)-

The glass around Estelle shatters. She reshapes it and breaks it until it's become sand. It becomes fine, and when she steps on it, nothing hurts. She's reached it, she's reached the sand stage. She moves the sand, and she creates clay with the water next to her. She throws it, and she creates something somewhat sharp. The wall around her shatters, and she stares at the mirror in front of her. Her agility was intense and she needed to be able to bend the sand as quick as she moved. So she starts over, and she doesn't stop until she's reached the state. It's not about who's quicker, it's about who's more skilled. She didn't want to be left behind.

-(♪o♪)-

Hatsumi splits the fire sent from Hatsuki. The two are training, and there was no one without the other. They would help eachother until both of them won. Hatsumi's fire is hot, but it isn't scorching. She was never able to bend blue fire, she wasn't a prodigy. Hatsuki's fire is orange. It brings destruction to those who touched it. Both have mastered driving the earth from out of the other person's control. It didn't take a master to notice that they had both developed intensely. Hatsuki raises a wall, and Hatsumi flips over it easily. Hatsumi breaks and chains her to the ground, and Hatsuki is unable to move. This was why she was capable of being treasurer

-(❀)-

The earth around Crécelle breaks, and molten lava comes out. It breaks through and she sends it to the water on the other side of the room. She generates lightning, and she shoots it at the sky. It was impressive, and there was far more than you could handle. She could kill people if she wasn't careful. She wanted the position, she needed the position. She needs to show her parents that she was to be looked up at. She needed to be in power, she needed to show her parents that she was stronger than them

-(◎)-

The sky is clear where Astaria stands. She dances with the water, and she bends it into steam. Fire shoots out of her hands, and she's powerful. She's improved since her last encounter with Crescent so many months ago. She was going to show her that she was skilled, and that she would be able to kick the girl out of the elites. Her bending is smooth, and she had improved dramatically since the last tournaments. She needed to get top 10 so she could win champion. She was so tired of being compared to her sister, and she wanted to show them that she was her own person. The tournaments were just the perfect chance for her.
