Chereads / Terrorist For H.I.R.E / Chapter 8 - Late to Bloom

Chapter 8 - Late to Bloom

"Two days ago," Oliver started, his voice sounded a bit tired. He probably had a mission last night. "A Holder previously thought to be normal developed his innate."

"A late bloomer?" Akira asked, already guessing that was the most likely conclusion.

"Yes," Oliver replied. "His name is Motoyasu Satoma, age 15, 167 cm, blonde dyed hair, and brown eyes."

Akira looked over the mission details on the tablet provided on one of the shelves as Oliver gave the target's description.

"What's the mission type?" Akira mumbled, mostly to himself as he swiped the screen for more details.

"It's a Green label," Oliver stated. "Just an ordinary rescue mission."

"What do I do with him after that?" Akira asked after scanning through the rest of the mission details.

"Bring him back here,"

"Huh?"

"You'll have to put up with him until the rest of us arrive," Oliver added with a small chuckle.

The team had split up and sent Akira and Luck ahead for infiltration, while the rest had gone to Chiba for a yellow label A-rank mission. It was to capture a rouge Holder and eliminate all parties responsible for their detainment. They should be finished in a day or two.

"Understood," Akira sighed with not much expression on his face, but already feeling uncomfortable.

"In three hours Motoyasu will be transferred onto a GT truck and moved to H.I.R.E Labs," Oliver continued. "Our window of opportunity will be when he's being moved in the truck."

"A GT truck?" Akira questioned, a bit surprised. "Is he that special? What's his ability?"

"I don't know," Oliver exhaled, allowing his exhaustion to be obvious in his voice. "It wasn't listed in the mission details. But if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably an A-rank destruction type or an S-rank Attack type, since he's managed to catch the interest of those H.I.R.E guys."

"Hm..."

"He just awakened his Innate so he probably has very little control over it," Oliver added, as Akira began to change into his work attire and pack his equipment. "Be careful."

"Yes."

"They'll be under you in 72 seconds," Oliver stated from the communications device planted in Akira's ear. "Get ready."

"Got it." Akira whispered from his position on top a tree which's branch stretched out to the edge of the road, below the pedestrian side walk. With the hood of his coat covering his hair and the full mask he wore with the design of a skull on it covering his face, he blended into the dark almost perfectly. With his eyes showing through the mask, it wasn't complete. His eyes were a bright electric blue color during daytime, but sometimes when he was working, they naturally changed to red, almost as if they read his subconscious. He wasn't sure if that was because of his ability, or because of something else, but the color of his eyes always matched the color of his flames. And the color of his flames always matched the calmness of his mindset. He was always characteristically calm, so his eyes remained electric blue most of the time.

"10 seconds," Oliver stated.

Akira got into position, leaning against the bark of the tree with his knees bent.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1," Oliver counted. "Now!"

At the signal, with the guarded GT truck in the perfect position, moving at about 60 km/h, Akira leapt from the tree and onto the roof of the truck. Little flares came of him and disappeared into the wind as he did.

"Boarded successfully," Akira sighed. Lacking adrenaline and excitement even though he had just jumped onto the roof of a moving GT truck- A truck equipped with machinery capable of dampening a Holders powers and stopping their Innate from being used. It was one of the few remaining vehicle models that could still be operated manually by a person behind a wheel, gas peddle, and gears.

"Good," Oliver said. "This road is dangerously close to a residential district so avoid making too much of a racket or the TMPD might get involved."

"Understood," Akira responded, getting Silver Wisp out of it's resting place inside his coat and aiming for the area on the roof above the driver and the front passenger seat.
