Chapter 4 - Investigating Genius

~Tokyo, Japan; 10:34 AM GMT+9

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Shibuya Branch.

The room stayed silent as the echoes of his footsteps rung through the workspace. All eyes were on the anomaly that stalked past the row of desks moving towards an empty work table with nothing but a bag in hand. The air around him felt stiff and the atmosphere grew a little chilly. It was as if his persona had manifested itself and was affecting the environment. Once he had put his bag down on his new desk, suddenly the silence broke into still whispers.

"Mr. Morrow?" A voice asked, breaking the whispers and stiff atmosphere.

"Yes," The man answered, dressing his suit before extending his hand to shake the other man that had just appeared. "Are you Hinamoto-san?"

"Yes I am," The man now identified to be Hinamoto Tadashi, chief of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department responded. "I look forward to working with you."

"So young," Morrow perceived, as he gazed at the man he thought was too young looking to be a branch chief.

"As do I." Morrow stated, finally releasing his grip and breaking their very business like handshake, not once changing the emotionless and neutral expression on his face since the start of their conversation.

"Takagi!" Tadashi yelled to a man sitting across the room who had taken off his suit and was now sipping on his coffee.

"Sir?" Takagi responded, dropping his coffee mug on the pile of documents that seemed to be increasing by the hour, and trudging over to where the two other men stood.

"This is Hideoshi Morrow," The branch chief started. "He's been newly assigned to your team. He's a quick study so I doubt he'll give you a hard time."

"Takagi Haruto," Takagi introduced himself, extending his hand to shake Morrow's. "I look forward to working with you."

"Yes," Morrow stated, his expression still unchanged as he received Takagi's hand. "Likewise."

"I'll leave him to you then." Chief Tadashi said, as he excused himself.

"So you're the supposed genius that everyone was talking about?" Takagi started, as soon as they were to themselves.

"What?" Morrow retorted, although half understanding what he meant.

"Everyone says you have a good nose as a detective," Takagi continued, gesturing with a wave of his hand for a group of guys silently watching from behind Morrow's new desk to come to them. "Even the Chief."

"Hm..." Morrow pondered, as he began organizing his desk with stationary and files he pulled from his bag. "It's nothing too exaggerated. I'm just very attentive, especially at deciphering lies."

"Well, welcome to the team," Takagi said with a small grin, then gesturing towards the group that had reached them. "These are the other members."

"Nice to meet you,"

"Welcome," The group of six greeted as they introduced themselves.

Tachibana Aiko, Murakami Aikawa, Daisuke Mizumi, Watanabe Kenji, Ito Itsuki, and Yusuka Minami. The members of Takagi Haruto's team.

"How young looking," Morrow though to himself again, as he glanced at each of them, secretly profiling them. "Probably all under 32."

How uncharacteristic of a single task force but also to his advantage as he was equally 'under 32' and didn't get along with individuals within the middle age bracket and above, as well as individuals below the young adult bracket.

"Nice to meet you," He responded after he was done profiling them. Giving a small bow he continued, "Please take care of me."

"I look forward to working side by side with you," Minami stated as she dispersed with the rest of the group. Now she would be his partner.

"Mm," Morrow hummed in response and took his seat with a sigh.

Hideoshi Morrow, the youngest detective to be recognized by the 'eccentric' and whimsical police Chief, Hinamoto Tadashi. He possesses a keen eye for investigation and an ability to detect lies. His reasons for transferring to this branch, as well as moving to Japan are unknown, however, The rumors that he has solved every case since the start of his career, are indeed true.
