"Dad?"
You called out into the endless void in front of you.
Not that you were in any type of alternate dimension or something- you were just a kid. A kid's imagination can take hold of anything they want to set their mind to. Or, sometimes, their imagination takes hold and manipulates what they see around them to what they feel is happening.
"Hnn. . . " A distant groaning was heard far off into the dark room.
You scurried around boxes you couldn't really see to find your father, hopeful that it's him. Little pieces of wooden flooring propped up threatened to make you trip.
"Dad. . . ?" You looked desperately for the source of the voice, looking all around you.
BOOM
A large, rumbling thunder of noise erupted outside of your home, shaking you onto the floor. You were trembling, afraid of what was going on. Could it be fireworks?
Maybe it's just a bad thunderstorm.
Yeah! That's it!
You dragged your hands onto the smooth, cool wall, trying to balance your frail figure. You walked like that to keep your body steady, still looking for your father.
Where could he have gone? Surely, not very far. Was mother looking for him too?
You kept reconciling thoughts inside your mind, calming you as you roamed the wall for some type of obstruction. It was getting hotter as you continued along, finding your father's room.
Oh, maybe mom and dad are just sleeping! Must be heavy sleepers with all this noise. . . I'll talk to him later about that.
You giggled to yourself as you reach for the doorknob.
I think father needs to fix the a/c, it's really hot. . .
The moment you touch the doorknob, it feels as if someone stuck five needles through your hand that were on fire. You shriek and pull your hand back in pain, watching your hand redden at the second.
You look desperately back at the door, right when another rumble shakes the house.
BOOM
You start to cry as you're swing to the right of the door, a fireplace tool swinging into the door. It pierces through the door upon contact, leaving room for you to strike it again.
You take notice of this through watery eyes, imagining a sword that is calling for you to save your parents.
I can just get mom and dad! Then we'll all go to the doctor!
Determination filled you at your newfound plan as you grasped the heavy tool, whacking it around to destroy enough of the door. You felt like a knight at war with the Lord Door, whom you were destroying.
You had a smile on your face when you finally destroyed the door, holding your weapon in the air. When you looked in, you dropped your weapon immediately.
There was nothing but blazes of fire everywhere. What could've happened? Were your parents okay?
You felt your eyes watering again as your plan slowly fell apart, but you saw your mom and dad on the floor, and they were alive!
You ran to your mom, hugging her, who was hugging your father. Smoke was filling your lungs as they both cradled you.
"(Y/n). . . " Your father started aggressively coughing, getting up to try and open a window that he's been trying to this whole time.
"You need to get out of here with your mother." He pried the window open with the fireplace tool.
"Come on, sweetie." Your mom called for you outside of the window after climbing out herself.
You shook your head, clinging to your father's leg, afraid to leave him. Your lungs were on fire, struggling to function, but you held on anyways.
A large crack sounded, followed by progressive smaller cracks. You both looked up to see a flaming piece of the ceiling falling apart. If that were to fall, you both would be dead for sure.
You didn't understand what death was, but you didn't like it nonetheless. Everyone else was upset by such thoughts.
"I'M NOT LEAVING!" You screeched, bawling your eyes out.
Your father tried to get through the window with you but you two were too big together.
"(Y/N)! GO!" Your father yelled at your figure, grabbing and throwing you towards your mother in one swift motion.
You yelled, desperately trying to get back inside with your father but he was gone when you looked back. A large crash sounded and the whole house was slowly engulfed in flames.
Around you was nothing but a wasteland that reeks with death and fire. You saw monsters, ones that you didn't believe until they appeared from your story books. They were fighting the people you called friends.
Well, friends of your mother.
Oh, no! They can't hurt them! No!
You tried to run to them, but you were snatched back by your mother. She swooped you into her arms and ran as far away as she could, into a valley.
The valley used to be full of the most beautiful blooms, now dead and withered into the Earth from the wages of War. A city was always visible from here, but your mom went the opposite way, frantically looking for somewhere you both could stay.
She turned a corner down a street and bumped into a monster. Not good news, not at all.
Your mother looked terrified, trying to back away before accidentally starting a battle.
Too late.
"LET MY MOM GO!" You screamed at the monster as they held your mother in the air.
They tilted their head at you, before being struck by something too fast for your eyes to catch. All you saw was a skeleton a little far off who saved you both. He got struck by someone else, humans, right when you made eye contact with him.
You tried to run again, but was dragged away by your mother. You watched the man as your mom ran. He got hit on the face twice, sending cracks under and over his eyes.
You wanted to help, but that was something you couldn't do. You were almost useless.
Useless. . .
The word stuck with you.
Your mom settled somewhere in an alley, seeming to be a little way away from where people were fighting. She hated to put you in this environment. No mother would ever want this for her child.
You felt something hit your neck and you looked down to see something glisten in your eye. There was a golden, thin, necklace around you.
This is dad's!
You started crying your eyes out, not even caring how your father got that on you amist of the chaos.
Your mother cradled you in her arms, crying with you. Nothing mattered right now- only you and your mom.
The world has lost it's glory.
Let's start a brand new story.
