Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

Updated 7/26/20

If a human ever comes through this door. . . could you please, please promise something? Watch over them, and protect them, will you not?"

"I will."

"Thank you."

———————————————————

You hear a whoosh and lift your head from your knees to see Sans. He was crossing his legs, leaning on the inside of the sentry post, hands in his pockets. He looked at you with the most calm look you have ever seen.

"Whats wrong? You hidin' something?"

You got nervous. He squinted his eyes at you. "Y'know, no matter where you go, I will find you."

He grinned, knowing of his own talents. Those stupid, clever talents.

Well, that's creepy. This has been a disaster. Why did I have to faint in the beginning?

You take out your menu and Sans watches you as you press the RESET button. You always were the one to run away from your problems.

He waves at you before you RESET.

How did he know what I was doing?

~

You feel yourself falling again into the dark pit, landing on the yellow buttercups. Already knowing what to do, you sit up quickly, and look above you again. Instead of going through the entryway and getting threatened again, how about you try to get out your own way?

You scan the walls around you, made up of dirt and mud compressed together. It confused you on how the dirt was so perfectly spherical but it was.

You go to one of the sides and start to dig at it, sticking your feet into little holes that you kicked into the mud. Once you got up a little bit, you slipped and fell back down.

Alright, dirt. It's either you or me here.

You get back up and try again, but fail, scraping your leg on a rock. You really didnt have the patience to keep doing that.

You look down at your leg to see the sizeable cut, bleeding a good bit onto the buttercups. There was nothing you had to wrap it, so you dealt with the pain and moved along.

"Howdy! I'm Flowey, Flowey the Flower!" He said with an enthusiastic tone.

You made your way back to the familar dark room, greeted by Flowey. Suddenly, it got colder and an ominous feeling fell over you.

"But you know that already, don't you?" Flowey's tone drops, still smiling. "You think you can play by your own rules. In this world, it's KILL or BE KILLED. You'll learn that soon."

I'm am not about to take a threat from a yellow sprinkler.

"What do you-" Flowey had already left, disappearing into the vast soil.

You rubbed your hands together, shivering. Not from the cold, but the feeling you get from talking to him. He was not good news.

You went through Toriel's monologue significantly fast, since you already knew all the things you had to do. Before you knew it, you were back out the RUINS doors and into the snow. You felt bad leaving her again, but you had to do it to get out.

Alright, Sans. I know you are going to sneak up on me and prank me with your stupid whoopee cushion.

As expected, Sans creeps up behind you and you turn around before he is done talking like you did the other time, shaking his hand. He is not as confused this time as he was the last, but you brush it off.

"I didn't catch your name there, pal." Sans asks.

Should I tell him my real name? I mean, I still don't know who he really is. He might be the same as Flowey.

"F/n."

(Fake name, way too lazy to think of one)

"Nice." Sans says. "I'm actually supposed to be on the lookout for humans right now, but I don't care to capture anybody."

You can tell. He does, seem very lazy.

"My brother on the other hand-" Sans looks away, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "-is a human hunting FANATIC. Actually, I think that's him over there. Go through this gate thing."

You walk along the bridge in between the wooden pillars, looking back at Sans. "Yeah. Go on right through, my bro made these too big to stop anyone."

You continue on the path until you reach a small clearing with a. . . lamp?

"Quick, behind that conveniently shaped lamp." Sans points over to the lamp that you were questioning the purpose of.

What kind of fuckery do you take me for, lamp?

You walk behind the lamp, right before another, taller, guy walks towards Sans.

"Sup, bro?" Sans calmly says to his brother.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out who's older.

"YOU KNOW WHAT 'SUP,' BROTHER!" His brother tries to make an angry face, but it isn't very threatening. "IT'S BEEN EIGHT DAYS AND YOU STILL HAVEN'T. . . RECALIBRATED. YOUR. PUZZLES! YOU JUST HANG AROUND OUTSIDE YOUR STATION! WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING?!?!"

Oh, he's a bit louder. . .

"Staring at this lamp. It's really cool. Do you wanna look?" Sans looks over at the lamp and then back at him.

So you're going to give me a hiding spot and then reveal me?

"NO!! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THAT!! WHAT IF A HUMAN PASSES THROUGH HERE?!?!" The guy says, stomping his foot with a childish mad face. "I WANT TO BE READY!!! I WILL BE THE ONE! I MUST BE THE ONE! I WILL CAPTURE A HUMAN!"

The guy pauses, thinking about something that makes him seem happy.

"THEN, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS. . ."

Ah, so that's his name. "Papyrus"

"WILL GET ALL THE THINGS I UTTERLY DESERVE! RESPECT, RECOGNITION. . . I WILL FINALLY BE ABLE TO JOIN THE ROYAL GUARD! PEOPLE WILL ASK TO BE MY "FRIEND"? I WILL BATHE IN A SHOWER OF KISSES EVERY MORNING!" Papyrus really has a lot of confidence.

"Hmm. . . Maybe this lamp will help you." Sans says, looking over at the lamp again.

NO, BOB STOP!

"SANS!! YOU ARE NOT HELPING!! YOU LAZYBONES!! ALL YOU DO IS SIT AND BOONDOONGLE!" Papyrus seems mad, using words you've never heard before.

You have to stifle back a giggle at the word "Boondoongle."

"DID I HEAR SOMETHING?" Papyrus looks over towards the lamp.

You held your breath and stood completely still.

"Nah, bro. I think the puzzles are getting to you. I didn't hear anything." Sans seems to defend you, keeping Papyrus from finding you.

Ironic.

"I'M GOING TO GO WORK ON MY PUZZLES! AND ABOUT YOUR WORK SANS. . . PUT A LITTLE MORE-" Papyrus is already smiling. You know what is coming.

Oh no-

"BACK-BONE INTO IT! NYEH HEH HEH!!" Papyrus walks away down the path to Snowdin, triumphantly.

He pops back for a second. "HEH!"

You stiffle a giggle, walking out from behind the conveniently-shaped lamp. Sans looks at you with the same lazy smile.

"Hey, my brother has been pretty down lately. Seeing a human would really make his day." Sans scratches the side of his head. "But don't worry. He's harmless. He isn't dangerous even when he tries to be.

He's already said this before.

.

You pause for a second after nodding in agreement to Sans.

It's odd. Everything feels like a video game now. The RESETS, the way you fight. . . Oh well, I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

You felt really dark for a second. Like you were sucked into a black hole with glass shards impaling your body into shreds.

* ☜☹☹⚐ ☟🕆💣✌☠ (HELLO HUMAN)

"Something wrong, kiddo?" Sans asks.

You immediately get flashbacks to what you saw when he touched your shoulder.

Don't think about that. It was just a short-lived nightmare.

You shake your head for him to not be worried, and start walking where Papyrus disappeared off to.

"Alright." Sans says, following close behind you.
