"I'm done."
"Is that all you have? Are you sure you packed everything?" Miss Doofus asked as she peeped into the room.
I eyed her stupidly, "No, I still have a closet full of clothes and I don't even know where to start," I feigned a sign before shaking my head, "Of course that's all Miss Doofus, I'm an orphan who has been living in an orphanage centre all my life, what do you expect?"
"Ah, Riley, I'm going to miss your sarcastic moments. They are here, you better behave if you don't want them to bring you back," Miss Doofus said before leaving.
And I'm sure going to miss you too Miss Doofus, I thought, thinking back and realizing that she practically raised me. Doofus, the strict woman, who rarely had a smile on her chubby round face.
"Like I want to come back to this hell," I rolled my eyes, turning to check if I had packed everything in my worn out duffle bag.
"Good riddance then." I heard Miss Doofus shout from the passage. "Come on Riley. The Baker family is waiting for you!"
I took one last glance around the small room with two bunkbeds, where I used to sleep with three other girls, the room that held so many memories, so many happy and sad moments.
I was about to start a new life. I had wished for this—to get out of the damned orphanage centre, to start a new life, to finally live life. I was ready for this. I was ready to go wild.
With one last look at the bleak room, I carried my duffle bag and went out to meet my new family.
"Hello, Riley Lynch, I'm Mrs Baker." I finally stepped out to see my new parents as Mrs Baker reached out to give me a hand shake.
Mrs Baker was short, skinny, with very beautiful chestnut hair and striking green eyes.
I must have eyed her for too long because I heard Miss Doofus clear her throat as if signaling me to come back to earth as I realised that her hand was still stretched out.
Mrs Baker repeated, "I'm your new family, you can call me Sara."
I mentally scoffed at the fact that she used the word family.
Way to fast there...Sara
I released a small sheepish smile as I lazily accepted her smooth hands.
"Let's go, shall we?" She unexpectedly took my bag and carried it for me as we headed outside to her sleek black jeep.
Rich family? I like rich families!
"I'm so happy that one more child is being added to my little family!" Mrs Baker said excitedly as she revved the expensive jeep into life, and I took one last look at the orphanage centre building, one last look at Miss Doofus's straight face as she waved goodbye to me.
"I know you are going to love them," I heard Mrs Baker talk, and I realised she had been talking all along but I had forgotten about her.
"Who?" I asked subconsciously before smacking my face as that sounded rude.
"My two sons. I have one named Timothy and another named Tyler. They are a bit of trouble makers, but don't worry."
"Oh, I love making trouble," I said, and the moment I realised that Mrs Baker heard it, she looked back at me in shock, I smacked my mouth again.
What is wrong with you Riley?
"Not like bad kind of trouble. I mean good trouble where it's trouble but it's good. You know?" I rambled foolishly.
Awkward...
"Oh, alright..." Mrs Baker said before focusing on driving.
Way to go Riley. So much for being well-behaved.
"I have a feeling my boys will love you," I heard her say again.
What was it about these boys? I wondered...
I wondered how old they were. I automatically assumed they were still little because it would be too random for me to suddenly live in a family with boys my age. Too surreal.
I mean imagine how crazy it would be. I was used to my orphanage centre arrangement where the only boys around were young kids. I was the older kid there; 16 turning 17. I was even surprised that they found a family for me.
"We are here!" Mrs Baker snapped me out of my trance as I turned to gawk at the big house.
Big? That would be an understatement. The house was huge and beautiful, nothing I had seen before except in those movies I used to watch only on friday nights.
Mrs Baker helped me get out as and I took my bag with me while still gaping at the house. Maybe this was a normal-sized house to other people and I was just ignorant.
She led me to the door and opened the door to the beautiful foyer as she led me inside. "Welcome home,"
It feels like home alright. I mentally said.
This was a dream come true. Me, Riley Lynch finding a family at the begging of senior year, a rich family for that matter. I was on top of the world. I couldn't stop looking around.
My eyes landed on the staircase, the beautiful spiral staircase that looked like stairs to heaven and right at that moment the most breathtaking boy I had ever seen came out of nowhere, and it suddenly became a dream as he came down the stairs in slow motion. His hair was tossed back, dripping in water beads like he had just taken a shower, he had on a wife-beater that revealed his sexy arms and traces of a six-pack, completed by grey sweatpants.
Oh, boy was I not expecting this.
As he took the last two steps, his eyes landed on me and I swear I saw his eyes crinkle as a sexy smirk formed on his lips.
"What's up?" I finally heard his dreamy voice, but I didn't know who he was talking to so I just stood there dumbfounded.
Surely he wasn't talking to me, right? It's too good to be true.
I realised how a confused look took over his face and he turned to him mother, kissing her forehead before walking to the door.
"Where are you going Timothy?" She asked.
"I'm going over to a friend's house mom, I will be back before dinner, I promise," a sweet smile formed on his face. "Nice to meet you too, Riley."
Did he just say my name?
