Chapter 6 - Chapter Six: New Friends

***Republic City Police Station: Holding Cell***

Nyla's head was leaning on the bars of this enclosed cage. She was trying to look for an escape, but she couldn't just bend her way out with no plan in mind.

"Don't even think about it. We have extra measures to make sure you stay locked up. You're not getting out of here that easily." Lieutenant Jin Lan made her way to the bars. "I'll personally see to it." Her smile turned to a smirk and she laughed.

"Lay off her, Jin." Officer Lee Feng's arms crossed over his chest. "Maybe you should leave and find someone else to pester."

"Oh, please. I'm just doing my job."

"Well, do your job somewhere else."

Nyla grabbed onto the bars with an uncomfortable look. She could almost see the weird tension between the two and cut it with a knife. Jin left, but not before looking back at him with one last remark. "You should remember where your loyalties lie."

Lee's chest expanded and quickly expelled the air it contained. "Sorry about her. I'm also sorry you're in here. Are you at least comfortable?"

She backed away from the bars and sat on a small metal chair.

"Not talking, huh? I don't want you to get outta here, anyways. I also wouldn't want you to know that the cell may or may not be open for you to head out." He winked at her.

She pushed the bars slightly, turning her head to the side. "What? Are you helping me?"

"What would you constitute at helping? Look, Jin has gone off the edge. She hasn't been the same ever since you last escaped from us. She's trying to make yours and your friends lives hell. Just get outta here and don't mention this, ok?"

She gave him a look of suspicion. "I.. I don't know what to say. Thanks, Officer..?"

"Just call me Lee. Stay out of trouble." He closed the cell after the young bender had left the precinct quietly. "Good luck."

***Air Temple Island***

Harmony was pacing in front of her teachers. "What if she needs me? We have to leave, now!"

"Please, calm down. We'll find her." Asami's hand found its way to her shoulder.

"Why.. why do you keep doing that?"

"What? Oh! I'm sorry, it's a force of habit."

She smiled nervously, and grabbed her arm. "Master Jinora! Could we possibly take your Sky Bison into the city?"

"I just gave Pepper a bath, but I think she wouldn't mind taking a small trip." She smiled and blew her whistle, summoning her. "Hey, buddy." She pet the bison's fur. "Let's go."

Harmony lifted the two in the air with a platform of rubble and they got settled in the saddle. "Asami! I was going to continue practice later today. Mind keeping Mako and Bolin busy while I'm away?"

She laughed. "Anything else?"

"Hmm. How about a smile? Have fun without me!" Pepper's body began to float off of the ground as Jinora pulled at the reigns.

Republic City was bustling and booming with millions of people. It seemed like everyone was out and about doing random shopping. High, middle, and the lower class were commuting to work and home in the multitudes. Jinora landed her bison somewhere safe and she sighed. "Alright, she has to be somewhere in this city.. this is going to be 'fun'."

"For me, it will be. I know every inch of this city like the back of my hand, but there's something I gotta do first. Meet back here in a few hours?" Before receiving an answer, Harmony sprinted off into the crowds of people.

She kept running until she made her way into a small diner. There, she sat on a bar stool with a smirk. "So, you didn't think I would notice you following me?"

"You didn't even have the decency to send me a letter? I thought you got locked up."

"We both know that if I was in jail your many ears on the walls would tell you. I was... outta the city."

"You are completely right. How's it been, Harmony?" A young man dressed in red turned his head to look at her.

She laughed and punched his arm. "I'm making the best with what I got. How's the city been without it's best assets?"

"Word is one of those assets was in trouble. Know anything about that?"

"I wanted to know about it from you, actually."

"Hmm.." He snapped his fingers and another man came over, whispering in his ear before leaving just as quickly as he came over. "Ooo, this is juicy. I've heard that our little buddy was incarcerated a few days ago. I haven't heard about her location, but she's out. On a 'corrupt' accord."

"A.. a what?"

"Some cop named Lee Feng let her out. I don't have word about him either. Your friend has to be in the city, though. None of my agents have said they saw an earthbender flee."

"Thanks, Takumi. I'll come back if I need you again."

"You're lucky I have a debt to repay." He smirked, playfully punching her arm.

"See you around, jerk." She winked at him and left the diner to start searching around the city for Nyla. An idea popped in her head and she ran to the one place in the city her friend would most likely be.

The old arena looked empty, except for one figure in the stands. "Call it a best friends intuition, but I knew you'd be here."

"This is where everything changed for us."

"Not everything.. but I know what you mean, jailbird." Harmony made her way into the stands and sat next to her.

"So, he told you what happened?"

"More or less, but he owes me. Are you ok?"

"No, I'm not. Life's been crazy and nothing seems to be going right. I've never been so sloppy on a job since.. well since you became.. became it."

"Yeah.. It's been crazy for me, too. I wish things could go back to normal."

Nyla chuckled and looked at her. "Like that's possible. Why don't you stay in the city for a while longer? Maybe we both need a little stability."

"I would, but Master Jinora's waiting on me."

She sighed and crossed her arms. "I get it. You've got Avatar duties to deal with."

Harmony smiled brightly, shaking her head with laughter. "Like I would miss out on time to spend with you. I'll just let her know I wanna stay longer. She probably wouldn't mind."

"You're the best. We really need to catch up on lost time."

***The Next Day***

Morning came with a terrible pulsating pain in Harmony's head. She held herself up on her arms, breathing heavily. "Ugh.."

"Rough night?" Nyla came in with a bottle of pills and a water bottle.

"What even happened?"

"You heard some guys talking about us and told them to 'Shut their damn mouths before you give them something to talk about'. Then, you punched one guys teeth out and another punched you in the face. You put that guy in a rock hold and burned the first ones hand."

"How don't I remember that?"

"You literally passed out after that. I brought you to my room to rest."

Silence filled the room until the girls started laughing. Harmony held her head and groaned. "I was a natural."

"You were an idiot. Now, people are gonna think the Avatar is a fighter." She snorted and threw a pebble at her head. "Rest up, I have some jobs I need to finish."

"Didn't you get caught last time?"

"I know how to cover my tracks. Plus, the supplies are hidden somewhere only I know. I want you to take it easy today. We have plenty of time to hang out." Nyla left quickly.

Harmony drank her water with two pills for her headache, smiling at her runaway friend. "It feel great to be back home."
