Harmony went back to spending all of her time on Air Temple Island; her training was becoming more and more difficult. Her teachers decided to focus her in earthbending, proving to be extremely hard to her.
"Ugh!" Harmony threw slices of water at the boulder, cutting it in two.
"I like your attitude, but that's not exactly what you're supposed to do, Harmony."
"This is stupid! Why do I even need to learn earthbending? I don't even like rocks. If it's alright with you, I'll stick to my water and you can play in the dirt." She crossed her arms across her chest, heaving harshly.
Master Jinora chuckled. "My father used to tell Korra 'These teachings will sink in over time. Then one day they'll just click.'"
"Well, they aren't clicking.. What else am I supposed to do?" She slouched with a frown, putting her gaze on the ground underneath her feet.
"Hmm, perhaps it's time to see the book. Bolin, call the White Lotus sentries to bring it in my study. Harmony might need a lesson on her past." She smiled at the young Avatar-in-training. "You're going to love this.
The two were sitting in a small room with a desk and a much smaller one in front of it. Harmony sat at the smaller of the two while Jinora was looking through pages of the much discussed book. "So.. what am I going to love exactly?"
"This was Korra's book. My father asked her to write down everything she went through as the Avatar. She wrote every experience, every accomplishment, with a little help from her friends."
Harmony opened the book with curiosity taking over her. 'To the future Avatar this may concern:..' "Are you sure this will help? It just looks like a bunch of letters put together. 'I've learned. I've grown. And now, I've recorded.' Why did she even make a journal?"
"Unfortunately, when Raava was maimed by Vaatu, Korra's connection with the Avatar's before her was severed. From our knowledge, you won't be able to contact them for advice. My father thought this would be a good way to help the next Avatar." Harmony crinkled her nose, receiving a laugh from her mentor. "You'll grow to enjoy, or at least tolerate, it. If you have any questions, just talk to me or anyone else you see fit. It's time you read up on your history."
Harmony wandered about the island reading from the journal. It had letters from everyone in her past, including some of Aang's Team Avatar; Katara's letter had become her favorite. None of the information was settling in her, however she tried her best to continue with an open mind. "Having fun there?" Something broke her train of thought, bringing her back to reality.
"Huh? Oh, it's just you Mako."
"That sounds familiar. Like when we first met? Sill hurts just as much as it did then." He put a hand on his heart, holding in a laugh. "What do you have there?"
"Some.. light reading? It's from Korra and she passed it down to me, I guess. I think you and your brother's entries are kinda adorable. Can I ask you something?"
He smiled. "Sure."
"What was she like? Korra. Everyone seems to talk about her, but, then again, not at the same time. It's like she's taboo or something." She watched his face dropped. "Sorry. You don't have to talk about her if you don't want to--"
"It's ok. Keeping you in the dark isn't going to help anyone, especially you. We're all gonna have to deal with it eventually. She.. As much as she drove me crazy, I thought she was amazing. I told her that I would follow her no matter how bad things got. I always had her back, now I'll have yours."
She looked away and sighed. "Thanks.. Maybe I need to talk to everyone and get their opinions."
"You'll only find out more if you do. I wish you luck, Harmony." He waved her off as she walked away from both the conversation and him.
'Maybe I should find Bolin. He might be able to help,' she thought and went straight to the arena. "Master Bolin! I need to speak with you!"
"I keep telling you, just call me Bolin."
I chuckled, sending a smirk his way. "I don't think I'll ever do that, so you're gonna have to keep telling me that. I need to ask you some questions. If you don't mind, that is?"
"Oh, yeah. You can ask me anything, Harmony."
"Who was Korra to you?"
His cheeks tinged pink and he lowered his head. "Korra was one of a kind. I'm glad I was with her all those years ago. Wanna know anything else?"
She smiled brightly. "Maybe. Where I can find the lovely Miss Sato?"
Bolin took her off the island to Asami's mansion, making his way up the heavily guarded area. Two huge built man dressed in black stood at the doors to the gigantic villa. "Names." One of the men spoke firmly.
"Hey, Lae and Tae. You guys don't remember me?" They looked unamused or fazed by his words. "It's Bolin. This is Harmony; she's the Avatar." He whispered the last part and she blushed brightly out of embarrassment.
"Do you have an appointment with Miss Sato?"
"Uh, no. But since when do friends need appointments with Asami?"
Harmony stood up to the men. "Listen, I really need to talk to Miss Sato. She knows us and we know her. I doubt she would be angry if we popped in for a few minutes."
"Miss Sato is a busy woman. Why would she want to talk to a street rat? Just because you're the Avatar doesn't mean you get special treatment. Step aside before we forcibly escort you off of the premises."
"There's no need for that gentlemen." They moved to the side, revealing the woman they were searching for. "Let them through."
"Miss Sato! Of course. You may enter."
Harmony stuck her tongue out at the bodyguards, while Bolin walked though the doors with a cocky grin. "Thanks for that, Asami. It's good to see you again."
"You too, Bolin. How's your brother?" She led us to her office and they sat in chairs.
"He's still a dummy, but I gotta love him. How's Future Industries?"
"It's running. I'm just trying to keep up with my competitors and such, but I have a feeling you are both here for something other than small talk."
"I just had a few questions to ask you. You don't have to answer them though." Harmony grabbed her arm and bit her lip.
"Harmony, I will answer anything you need to know to the best of my abilities. All you have to do is ask."
"It's about Korra." The room started to light up as her vision began to falter and Harmony held her head. "Ah.. I. What's going on..?"
Bolin held her shoulders and Asami ran to her side. "Harmony? Bolin's what's wrong with her?"
"I don't know she was fine a few minutes ago! Let's get her back to the Island." Harmony was trying to speak to her mentor and Asami, but the words weren't taking form like she expected. Her body started to shake in Bolin's arms. 'Hey, it's gonna be ok. Just stay awake, Korra!' She tried to reach out to him, her side was burning with a wet sensation. The red stained clothes brought tears to her eyes.
Bolin, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna make it outta this one..
'Don't try to speak. Save your energy.'
Harmony screeched and pulled herself up on her arms. Bolin pulled her into his arms. "Harmony! I'm so glad you're ok. Don't scare me like that again!" His face was stained with tears and he was weeping on her.
"Give her some space, Bo." Mako grabbed his shoulders, taking him away from the young girl.
"I'm sorry, we were worried about you, Harmony. Are you ok?" He tried cleaning her face with some rags that were around.
Harmony noticed the people around her bedside and the little wraps she had on her body as coverings. "Wh.. What happened?"
"We called some healers in to check on you. Do you know what happened?" Jinora took her hand, smiling weakly at her.
"I.. no. I don't know." The memories flooded back to her and she realized the light figures came back. She didn't want to sound insane, so the knowledge was kept in the back of her mind. "Am I gonna be ok?"
"The healers suspect it's a spiritual wound; It's nothing a few small healing sessions can't fix. Meditating might help you recover as well. Once you're healed, we'll figure this out together." Jinora, Mako, Bolin, and Asami surrounded her with hopeful smiles and kind faces. They were just glad she was alive and Harmony sent them fake smiles; behind the mask she wore was an internal war with her emotions.
She wasn't who they wanted to be alive.
