The sun was rising over the precinct and Harmony tired her hair up in a bun. "I need to at least look a little decent."
"Ready for today? I've won Avatar." Jin came in with a man and a set of handcuffs. "This is Officer Feng. He's going to present you to the President and the Council members. Then, your trial will begin." Jin left the containment area with a dark laugh.
Officer Feng walked to her. "Turn around, Miss Avatar." She did as she was told and put her hands behind her. He sighed heavily. "I'm going to get you out of here. Just listen to what I have to say, ok?"
"Huh--"
"Just. Play along. I'm going to help you out of here." He pulled on her arms, dragging her along through the corridors. The halls were quiet; eyes stared holes into the two walking around. "Nothing to see here. Continue with your work."
"Are people here always so nosy?"
He chuckled. "Just about. We're gonna take you to City Hall. We only have to keep up appearances until then."
Jin was waiting outside by the Satomobile, arms crossed at her chest. "No, please. Take as long as you'd like." She grabbed Harmony's arm and shoved her in the back.
"Hey!"
"Zip it, thief. You deserve whatever's coming to you." She threw a smirk in her direction.
"I could say the same for you." Harmony returned the fatal stare.
"Get in the front, Lee. I'll be back here with her. Someone needs a lesson."
"Are. Are you sure, Chief? I don't mind holding her--"
"Hurry up. We have to be there before President Zhu Li tells us we need to put this off for another day. I finally have an audience with her. I could ask someone else to do this if you'd prefer."
"I-- no." Lee sat in the passenger seat, while Jin sat in the back with the young woman. "To City Hall then."
"Yes. The sooner the better. So, Avatar, when did you get these?" She grabbed her arm and pushed at the bruises visible to the naked eye.
"Ouch! What the--"
"Ah, fairly recent. I wonder who gave these to you."
"Jin! Take it easy on her."
"I'll do whatever I want. You're acting strange, Officer Feng. Is there any reason I should take you off of this case?"
"Not at all, but she's human, too. I don't think hurting her is going to help anyone."
"You're right. She'll be in prison soon enough."
"Thank you." The driver slowed the vehicle to a stop and nodded to Lee as the women left the back seats. "I'll be back soon. Be ready." He pointed to a few trash cans in an alley. He exited the passenger seat. "I got her, Chief."
"Thank you, Officer Lee. I'll take my seat by the Council and see you in there." She opened the doors revealing reporters and camera flashes. The doors were guarded by a few men in dark suits.
"We'll wait a few minutes so they can ask questions. Once we have the green light from these guys, I'll tell you more about the plan."
"What plan?" She looked up at him. "What are you even talking about?"
"Don't stress yourself over it. It will come naturally for you, too." He smiled slightly, quickly changing his features back to normal. The security guards nodded at the two, allowing them to pass through the doors of the building. Lee grabbed her arms tightly. "Don't struggle too much, keep your voice down, and try not to react."
"Wha--" Cameras blinded her for a moment and she tried walking around the growing crowd when more guards pushed the people back. The way was finally clear for them to walk towards the President and her council.
"Once they finish presenting you, make a scene and run. Your friend will be waiting outside in the car." The officer held her arms tightly, whispering in her ear.
Her eyebrows lifted and her eyes went wide, taking notice of the sea of people in the stands. She felt him discretely undo the handcuffs. "Why are you helping me?"
His grip loosened. "Do what you need to escape. Just go.."
Zhu Li stood up from her chair. "I had never thought, in my time as your leader, would I be presiding over the case of an Avatar. She has been brought to us with multiple counts of hiding evidence, thievery, and running from our officers who take pride in keeping this city safe. I would like to give a chance for the Avatar to respond."
Harmony punched Lee in his gut carefully, flipping herself out of his grasp. The handcuffs fell to the floor below her feet with him.
"Guards! Take her down!" Jin ran to aid of the fallen policeman.
Harmony spun around, taking water from a nearby cooler to make a bubble surrounding her. She threw shards of ice around the officers, but not hitting them directly; this gave her a chance to flee from them.
Making her way outside, she heard a whistle to the left of her. She spotted a familiar face. "Amaruq? Amaruq!" She ran into his arms. "What's going on?"
"No time to explain. Let's get out of here." He nodded to the driver and pushed them both back into the shadows.
"Don't let them get away!" The guards began pursuit of the car.
"I've got you. We're ok." The water tribe boy held her in his arms. "Jinora is waiting for us. We gotta hurry before they realize it's a fake out."
"I'm so glad you found me. You all planned this?"
"Your friend, Nyla, did actually. She made an idea into a reality. It's a good thing, too. We wouldn't have been able to help you as easily from inside a jail cell. Follow me."
She held his hand and smiled brightly. "Thanks."
"We're not outta the woods yet." He looked back at her with a grin. "Stay close to me, ok?"
They made their way through the back alleys and, eventually, found Jinora with Pepper at the docks. "Master Jinora!" Harmony ran to her teacher and hugged her tightly. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to worry you all."
"It's alright, Har. I knew we could get you back. Let's go home."
Home. She hadn't heard that word in a long time. She couldn't believe home was a real place for her to retreat with people by her side.
Pepper landed in front of Asami, Mako, Bolin, Nyla, and Bankei. "Guys!" Harmony jumped off of the bison and next to the people below her. She grabbed one at a time and pulled them all into a group hug. "It's good to be back."
"There's my favorite bender. We missed you. It wasn't the same without you, Kor-- I mean." Bolin let himself out of the group hug. "I'm sorry."
"It's alright." She let go of them all. "I'm too happy to be fazed by anything else at this point. I think I might need to rest."
Amaruq stood behind her. "I'll help you out."
"Offense to you, but I'll help her." Nyla took Harmony's hand.
"Guys. I can take myself to my room. Goodnight, everyone." Her mentors waved her off with Amaruq and Nyla staring knives into the other one's head. "It's great to be back home." She whispered to herself with a gigantic smile engraved in her face.
