Oliver walked out of the gym with a stiff shoulder. He had suffered some injuries, although Elaine showed him some Aikido techniques. Problem being, they weren't so easy as to be learnt on the first try.
He was on his way down a different street than the way home. This being because he wished to make a stop at the community library. Wasn't too far, and he had a library card he rarely used. If it was indeed easy to gain stat points by going through daily activities, then it would be an even greater benefit.
But suddenly he stopped walking as he ran that thought train through his mind again.
{That's purely inconsistent. I've been doing so much exercise lately I should have at least gotten 1 strength point, not from daily tasks or milestones. Is there some sort of hidden rule? If so, what exactly does it apply to? Then there's also the fact that we learnt in school today, yet not a single point? Is it because I hadn't committed myself to listening or something?)
The system app was playing mind games with Oliver. He was now concerned if there was anything else that may be hidden from his understanding.
{This will not be as straightforward as the mangas...}
Yet he resumed walking to the library and took a quick stop at a boba store. He finished it quickly just as he turned the corner and stood at the bottom of the stairs, heading up to the library. It was a wondrous work of architecture with smooth white walls and beautiful roman marble columns. It was a popular site for social media influencers. Tourists were more interested in the Opera house that had somehow survived the societal collapse.
He dropped the plastic container in a recycle bin as he entered the library after passing through security. The library was a pretty immense structure with a large document collection. Oliver wasn't looking for anything too complex, but maybe a book on gene research would interest him.
He asked for directions from one librarian and found the section with the right books. He scanned through and picked one with the most beautifully made covers. There was a free table and so he settled down to read.

{The recorded history and Knowledge of genetic evolution By Kyle Lundborg}
We recorded the first appearance of human super gene evolution from an infamous event happening back in 2200. It was a thermonuclear explosion that had decimated the city of Kinshasa, former capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was originally thought to have been the unified collapse of multiple nuclear plants, but after deeper investigation, they had found the cause within the debris.
A 16-year-old male had been found sleeping within the centre of the blast zone unharmed and giving off hazardous levels of radiation. The boy's name was Robert Mbale and was a registered citizen of the Congo Republic by birth.
After tests and research was conducted by the American Military, it was found that the boy had mutated genes radiating energy and giving strange properties.
Robert Mbale was charged with mass genocide and destruction of national property and was sentenced to be monitored on a specialized base in Arizona, U.S.A.
After a continuous 20 years passed, we discovered that Robert Mbale had achieved immortality. He couldn't be executed or couldn't seem to age as cells replaced each other faster than the rate of ageing. Such a phenomenon was unheard of and thus encouraged the creation of the career path of gene research.
We recorded Robert Mbale as a first generation 'evolved'.
Afterwards came the age of societal collapse, whereby other individuals with superpowers appeared and abused them for sole benefits. They were the second generation 'evolved'. They donned abilities akin to physical buffs or mutations of different magnitudes.
Third generation 'evolved' were a much more complicated gene taxa to research. They donned abilities akin to mental manifestations such as telekinesis, Psychokinesis and such.
Then came the golden age of 'evolved'. The latest generation where only two individuals qualify. They are the X-rank heroes of modern society, the social welfare hero Jesse Summers and the gate delving hero Joshua Aziz. Their abilities were determined to be impossible to comprehend because of the complex manifestation of cell genes.
We discuss research conducted on these two more in chap. 5

Oliver closed the book with a snap and stared at the cover. The title was written in gold calligraphy and imprinted on a bright red hard cover. It was considerably thick and informative. Oliver pulled out his phone to see the daily report screen pop up.

Oliver smiled and put his phone away before heading for the section he got the book from. He picked the three thickest books with detailed synopses on the back. He checked the name of the authors and googled them for credibility before heading for the librarian's desk.
He borrowed all four books, placing them in his school bag and walking out with a strange gaze from the librarian following him.
{I think I've figured out how this works.}
According to Oliver's beliefs, the system App worked on certain principles in order to give strength. There were [Daily Tasks], and [Milestones]. If the system gave him a [Daily task] to gain certain points, then it basically gave him the ability to gain those points. He had gained two intelligence points by improving his views on basic knowledge. Yet after that, he had also gained an extra intelligence point afterwards. This either meant he could continue gaining intelligence points until the next set of [Daily Tasks] arrived or it was just given for free.
He would like to believe it was the former. Mostly cause it could give him motivation to finish his homework.
{Guess I'm reading till midnight}
If his theory failed, then he would curse his stupidity till the end of the week.
