Chapter 33 - The Adventurers, CH 33

Somewhere far from Tracetta city a large area of rubble and corpses was being engulfed in warm orange flames. Several flitting shadows passed over the corpses picking all the forms of valuables they could find. A single figure sat upon the largest pile of rubble and flames.

He twirled his carving knife with his bony fingers while staring at the burning corpses just before his feet.

The figure stabbed his carving knife into a block of marble and raised a puff of debris dust.

"pl-please tell me... why destroy our village..."

A man was kneeling on the soiled ground before the pile of rubble and streaks of tears on his soiled face.

The figure stared down on the man but showed no sympathy under the hood of his purple cloak.

"Nivette."

"Yes senior."

[Spacial magic: splitting mirror.]

An aura suddenly spread across the entire area. And all the flitting shadows stopped their movements.

Everything within the perimeter of the aura was split into two colours, all the living were tuned the colour white with dark outlines while all the non-living were tuned the colour dark with white outlines.

The eyes of the man opened wide and few words were stuck in his throat. Then his body crumbled.

It was split from the centre with blood spilling everywhere.

This happened within a single second.

The figure watched as a pool of blood spread out from the corpse.

"You're slowing down."

Sherick wiped a stain of blood that had splashed onto his tight leather boots straps. Now a second figure had appeared to his left standing on the rubble and lifting a heavy great sword onto her back. Her face was completely covered by the hood of her cloak but her dissatisfaction was clear to sense.

"I-I wasn't slow! I clearly moved faster than you can see, senior!"

Sherick simply sighed and kicked a boulder before looking to the dark grey clouds above them. He had been traveling towards the capital when he stumbled across several villages.

So he did a few raids as a form of training his forces and unfortunately one of the other family heads had forced him to bring Nivette along.

He snapped his bony fingers with a 'click' sound and all the shadows gathered around the two.

There were 12 skeleton assassins he had brought along for reinforcements. So far he hadn't lost a single one.

Just as Sherick was about to give the next order he felt a powerful realease of mana that was usually followed by magic.

"Nivette..."

"ON IT SENIOR!"

Like a trained fighter Nivette pulled off her great sword from her strap and tossed it high into the air. The heavy mass of metal flipped over a few times will causing mild air currents to follow after it. She then brought her hands together in an audible clap and cast her quick magic spell.

[Morphing magic: Giant blade]

And as soon as she cast her magic the great sword disappeared in a puff of smoke. And the smoke spread in a matter of seconds until it hovered above them like a giant blanket.

Then all of a sudden the smoke disappeared and in its place stood a giant rusted sword that sunk into the soil under it's own weight. The blade was thick and carvings etched into it's metal that was over 50 metres tall.

But with the sword before them they couldn't see what happened next.

Seven whirling masses of mercury struck the blade and completely covered the sword in its silvery liquid that dropped onto the scorched ground.

The impact of the mercury was so strong that the blade shifted under the extra weight as the sound of metal ringing could be heard.

Sherick frowned at the sight and started to spread his mana around the area to widen the effect of his arts.

"They're coming."

Nivette stretched her hands towards the giant sword and silently commanded it to revert to its original size.

As soon as she did the liquid mercury came crashing down and completely dousing the flames and submerging the piles of rubbles.

However, all the assassins had moved out of the way in time with their cloaks fluttering in the breeze as they moved.

Sherick looked towards the direction the mercury had come from. In the distance there was a hill range that towered over the edge of a rather large lake to the east of the village. There were three figures standing on the top of three hills and all of them had books hovering by their sides with their pages randomly turning.

"Mages...and they even have evolved grimoires..."

Sherick frowned as he landed onto the ground with Nivette close to his side. She was lifting her great sword in her left hand and gathered Mana to the top of her blade.

The mage standing on the peak of the highest hill started gathering Mana and it was far quicker than Nivette.

Sherick couldn't tell what type of mage it was so he simply raised his dagger and cast his quickest defensive jutsu.

[Thermal arts: heat shields]

A wave of heat suddenly spread around the two forming walls of super heated air that spun around in a cyclone.

The air looked distorted and the mage cast her spell. Sherick grunted as he watched 4 lances of spinning flames appear around the mage. The lances flickered with a bright orange glow but their size was nothing to scoff at.

Each was probably as long as an average human male and the mage soon fired the lances towards them.

The lances travelled across the lake at high speed and the first one imploded upon coming into contact with the heat shield. THe six others followed closely behind and also imploded within the range of the heat shield.

Sherick sighed in relief as he released the spell and collected his mana.

{Thankfully it seems they're not too familiar with my own shinobi arts... at least so far.}

A sickly green flame had completely engulfed Nivette's sword and her eyes burned with crimson radiance.

"Permission to exterminate them senior..."

"Go ahead...bring back a skull while you're at it."

(first period class 1AR)

Kyle had his notebook open and his quill wedged between his fingers but his interest wasn't in the classroom. He had been doing calculations trying to figure out how best to use magic and so far he had come up with three theories.

It was currently linguistics and it happened to be the class that came before combat orientation on Tuesday. Kyle wanted to make the most of the combat classes but he wanted to do so while avoiding mishaps. Hannah was paying close attention to the linguistics professor and seemed to enjoy while Alicia tried to keep up. The class was the longest one in the class timetable lasting 2 hours then combat orientation would last 1and a half hours.

Unknown to Kyle, someone sitting at the back row was observing his calculations and couldn't wait for the combat classes themselves.
