Chapter 35 - combat classes (2/2), CH 35

How to describe the fight....

Blinding.

Kyle could barely see when the battle begun. One of the members of the opposing team cast a blinding light spell that immediately clouded their team's vision. Not long after Kyle felt a burning sensation spread over his chest. The sensation turned into pain not long after. Kyle then felt his feet lose their hold and he was airborne.

"[Dark magic: light negation!]"

Immediately Kyle's vision cleared and he could finally observe his situation clearly. It was a mess. It seemed that Deloris had cancelled the blinding spell with a bit of dark Mancer magic. Kyle was in awe as he watched a rather intimidating looking grimoire hover by Deloris' head. It was open but the pages looked old and frayed.

A magic circle had blossomed under his feet and was releasing a sort of toxin gas that was irritating a member of the opposing team.

She too had a grimoire hovering by her side but it looked less thick compared to Deloris' and its cover was decorated with golden carvings. It looked stunning but her red eyes clearly indicated that Deloris' magic was irritating her.

"You ass!! you can use dark magic!"

Deloris lips carved out into a sly grin. His mana levels surged as his muscles seemed to grow in mass. He was clearly receiving a buff from his own magic.

"I never said I couldn't. But it seems you're teammates are too occupied to help you so I might as well show you more of it!!"

Kyle's eyes then frantically looked around for his friends and was astonished to see that Hannah and Alicia were working together to keep Ezekiel busy as he was enveloped in a dark green flame, an aura of sorts. Kyle grit his teeth when he landed back on the floor of the prism. It was a few inches above the actual ground so it looked like Kyle was floating but he showed no interest.

Kyle had tried to master Shinobi arts with Nanette but it proved impossible to learn in such a short time. So the only thing he could rely on right now was the Mancer magic spells he had practiced back in the room.

The issue was that without some form of catalyst the spells wouldn't be too effective. He first summoned Dyrnwyn that he had stored in his dimensional rift not too long ago. The sword handle landed in his palm and he felt a sudden pulse shake the blade.

{You're agitated...do you require assistance?}

"I'm fine."

Kyle brushed off Rhyderrch without a second thought. He raised his palms to the sky and quickly gathered mana within his fingertips. He then chanted the quickest spell he knew so far.

"[flame magic: flame rush]"

From under Kyle's feet a bright orange glow quickly spread. There were orange sparks and Kyle feeling as lights as a feather before the spell activated and Kyle was gone. Leaving behind him a beautiful flaming lily that let out great heat. Kyle couldn't control the direction and he stumbled as he couldn't move his feet to match the boost.

He stumbled directly into a member of the opposing team and halting him from casting the spell he had been preparing. They both hit the wall of the cube with a rather sick sounding crunch.

Kyle recovered quickly and was already back on his feet in a short matter of seconds. He hit the opponent on the back of his head with the pommel of Dyrnwyn.

{That's one out.}

Kyle then turned to face the situation so far. He counted for two different fights being carried out nearby. There was the fight of the angels and Ezekiel while the other was the fight between the smug Deloris and the female mage. He had also taken out a single opponent himself so that left two more opponents.

"Wait... where's Sheila!?"

"I'm over here! I need assistance!"

Kyle's eyes followed the source of the voice and to his surprise it came from above.

Sheila's outfit had changed completely. She was now wearing a dark knight armor that sprouted four dark tendrils from her back. The tendrils were just like an insect's pair of legs and they kept stabbing the air around her leaving waves of heated, distorted air.

The frustration on her face was evident and Kyle wasted no time in sprouting his angel wings and jumping to assist her. Up Til now he hadn't seen who exactly Sheila was fighting so that probably left the possibility of invisibility. He gripped tightly to Dyrnwyn and flapped his wings to stir up the air.

Beneath him Deloris was enjoying himself with a constant release of dark magic that was keeping his opponent agitated and irritated. She was getting really pissed and her mana levels rose to severe height levels.

[Light magic; Refracted lances!]

[Dark magic; assimilation!]

The two powerful opposing elements collided and the bright flash blinded everybody around and even the people outside the prism. The whiplash of the colliding spells knocked Sheila and Kyle out of the air in a rather ungraceful manner.

"I'll kill you!!"

"I dare you!!"

Kyle managed to land on his feet just as the bright flash was fading. Right next to him was a grumbling Sheila who was still adorned in her dark armor. The four dark tendrils definitely looked a bit thinner now and Kyle could't help but ask Sheila if she was fine.

"I'm great, let's focus on the enemies."

Kyle noticed a flash in the corner of his right eye and the pulse of Dyrnwyn returned suddenly before Kyle realized that he had just moved without realizing. At his feet was a shattered crossbow bolt that shone with a purple enchantment. Kyle felt a rush of adrenaline as he looked down on his sword.

"I said I was fine but thanks for your assistance."

{...that... wasn't me.}

Kyle was surprised but he suddenly had to close his eyes when a powerful gust of wind blew into his eyes. He tried to shield his eyes with his free hand and kept his grip on Dyrnwyn.

[Wind magic: wild breeze!]

Kyle squinted his eyes as he caught a glimpse of the caster. It was a member of the opposing team who had a calm expression on her face. She wore spectacles with wooden frames and after adjusting them a bit her mana surged.

Kyle hadn't thought that the battle would be this chaotic. He raised his sword high and with his free hand he placed his palm facing downward.

From under his feet bloomed a rather small magic circle that seemed to lack a proper mana circuit as the connecting lines between rings looked scratched and weak. Kyle ignored this detail however and started his chant.

Sheila wasn't willing to wait for him and jumped into action. Her extra pair of limbs flared up in size and were a blur as they extended to catch the opposing mage.

The mage in question, however, simply adjusted her spectacles and remained in her place. As soon as the dark limbs reached her she raised her hand and in a clear and steady voice she said.

"Isn't she using a long range combat spell."

The dark tendrils stopped in their movement and Sheila came to realize what she had just done.

"Team Sheila is hereby disqualified!"
