It didn't take long for Rank to notice that his new lizard was a fair bit stronger than the others. He believed this to be a result of the taming skill. He followed his lizard's lead and jumped back into action. His body felt a lot lighter, as if all his fatigue and injuries had somehow instantly healed. Not only that but he felt more durable, his punches felt faster and it felt as if he was tiring a lot slower than he had before.
Behind him he heard several explosions and flurries of blows. He'd guessed it was coming from the rest of the seven. Over at Tark he heard cracking of bones and caught a glimpse of shreds of flesh flying. Rank figured this was Tark working away at crafting weapons.
Rank also noticed Dirk throwing an additional lizard corpse at Tark every few minutes. Rank followed his lead.
"They're thinning out. I'd guess there's only about three dozen to go." Fae yelled. Glancing back at her she seemed to be shrouded in bright light. The corpses around her seemed to be slightly smoking. A faint sent of burnt flesh filled the air.
"Daggers up!" Tark tossed two crooked, bone daggers out towards the fighters.
Rank did not need another invitation to grab one. He wasn't sure who grabbed the other, but after that, the rest of the fight was easy work. He and his new lizard easily tore through six more lizards before the onslaught ended.
"So to recap, loosely, the last thing everyone remembers before appearing here is sitting down to take our common exam. Here, we've found that each of us have a class and skills, and the monsters in this world will not hesitate to hunt and kill us. Even worse, most of us are cowards. From the thirty nine present, only seven of us showing any affinity for combat." Gryf addressed the crowd of students. Rank couldn't help but be a bit jealous of his natural born leadership skills.
Dirk stood up to raise his voice. "Okay, right now we need to take inventory. We need to know each other. Strengths and weaknesses, abilities and classes. In these circumstances information is everything."
Rank wasn't sure if Dirk fully understood what he was saying. If he was confused, he definitely was not letting his expression reflect it.
"Thanks Dirk, I'll start." Gryf interjected. "My class is Arcane Knight, no idea what that means. And my skill is Arcane arsenal. It seems to be at B-rank. It basically let's me conjure temporary weapons to use in a fight. It seems that I am the only person that can make use of them though..."
"I'm Berserker class, my skill is Brute, at C-rank. It improves my physical strength in short bursts." Dirk added.
"Holy Hero class, Light magic skill." Fae quickly added. "A-rank."
Gryf smiled and gestured over to Rank. "And you? The man of the hour isn't going to speak?"
Rank sat startled for a brief moment. "Man of the hour?"
"Well yeah, it was your stubbornness and random yelling that turned that fight around. So, what does your status say?"
"Support Specialist class, D-rank Monster Taming skill." Rank gestured at the lizard that sat snuggled on his lap.
"Ha, of course you'd have something so...you." Gryf shot him a smile.
Gryf and Dirk continued questioning each person on their class, their skill and how they believe it works. Rank paid careful attention to each answer. He took note of a few he found particularly interesting, as well as who had the lowest and highest rank skill. He wondered if his lizard had any skills of its own.
As if responding to his thought, a status screen similar to his own opened up.

"You don't have a name, do you.." Rank looked down at the sleeping bundle on his lap. The lizard looked up at him with big eyes. He regarded the lizard for a moment. He decided these creatures were quite cute when hundreds of them weren't charging to kill him. "How about we call you Kodo."
