Chapter 7 - Rank 6

Their strategy worked perfectly. They managed to avoid most monsters as Rank took notes of interesting landmarks along the way. Close to the lizard nest they'd all arived in this world at, there was a small grotto that seemed relatively safe. A bit further along there was a massive lake which had a small island in the middle. Interestingly enough there was a narrow walkway that, if he didn't know any better, looked like it was heaped there by humans.

After that there was a long strech of dense forrest that only served to slow down the group's pace. Thanks to their incredible scouting ability the group completely avoided most beasts. Rank made sure to take note of the different types of creatures in the forrest, and thanks to Yun's ability Rank was able to catalog their different strengths. Rank had found that there were very few creatures in the forest he couldn't handle. One of these, they had a rather close encounter with. It was a creature that seemed very similar in appearance to a tiger. The major differences were in it's size, as this one was much smaller than a regular tiger, but still large enough to pose a real threat, and that this beast seemed to be covered in a weird green tint. This beast also seemed to move much faster. Kodo, after luring the monster away, barely managed to escape into the dense forest thanks to his small size.

As they moved around, Rank advised Tark to collect materials for his skill. As the day moved on he crafted three items. The first was a simple spear, made of wood and bones from a creature that seemed suspiciously similar to the tiger-like beast, which he opted to keep for himself. The second was a rather intricately tinkered crossbow. It seemed to be constructed of normal wood and strange "magical" plants Yun had identified for Tark. Tark gave this to Myst, promising to whip her up some bolts later that night. The last appeared to be a glove made from bark and various plant fibers. Between the knuckles were tree blood stained teeth, most likely from the aforementioned corpse. Tark gave Rank a loose explanation of how to control it. To Rank, it didn't seem all that efficient, but seeing Tark's passion towards his invention he decided to accept it. If nothing else he can just use his dagger instead.

They came to a standstill in a clearing.

"Why are we stopping?" Myst questioned.

"The sun's starting to set. We should start heading back..." Rank dropped to a squatting position and beckoned Kodo over to him. "It might get dangerous for us if it gets dark."

Yun started checking around random plants and various stones. Rank noticed him pocked an item or two.

"Let's get moving, Tark, can you mark this area with a cross or something?" Rank turned back towards the direction of the original nest.

Tark quickly used his spear to carve a massive "X" into the ground.

On their way back Rank took the opportunity to test out his new weapon. Upon running across a horned rabbit, Rank raised his left fist towards where he expected it to move. He focused his energy at his knuckles. With a jolt the three jagged teeth shot out at an incredible speed. They impaled the small rabbit, killing it near instantly. He then shifted his focus to his wrist, which caused the plant fibers attached to the teeth to start retracting back into the glove. The harder he focused, the faster it retracted.

Maybe the weapon wouldn't prove as inefficient as he expected.

They continued moving back towards the nest.
