Hakaku signed the papers with a silent sigh.
"Thank you, sir! Here are the keys to your new apartment." the middle-aged man in front of him said.
This middle-aged man was the landlord for the new apartment of Hakaku Koyama, a 19-year-old college student on a leap year.
Hakaku used to live in a small town, but had moved to Tokyo in hopes of getting a well-paying job to earn enough cash to lower he's college debt. Of course, this meant Hakaku would also have to rent an apartment for him to live in.
Hakaku wasn't going to buy a fancy 5000 Euros per month apartment, no! He was going to buy the cheapest one he could find, that would... be liveable in.
Searching for an apartment Hakaku had seen all sorts of 200 and 300 Euro apartments, but they were smaller than a public bathroom and barely had space for a bed.
So Hakaku had decided to buy one for a little more. Precisely - 500 Euros.
Actually, Hakaku considered the apartment a steal. It had two rooms - a large bedroom to the left, in the right a living room in front of the door, and a hallway between them that had a bathroom and closet right next to them.
Still, Hakaku was suspicious and a bit concerned about how CHEAP the apartment was.
In reality, this apartment could've cost double or even triple its current cost.
'So what's the reason?' Hakaku thought as he opened the door to his apartment, 'Is it haunted... or the old house of a serial killer? Guess I'll just have to find out...'
Hakaku entered the tan room with dozens of unopened boxes containing his items.
"Well... I guess it's time to unpack!"
Hakaku started to unpack his things.
By the time he was half-finished, it was already evening and after a long day of work, Hakaku was ready to hit the hay.
"Ok so time to..." Hakaku began saying as he realized something, "My... Bed's not... constructed..."
Hakaku had forgotten to build his bed while unpacking many much less necessary items like his figurines, manga and video games.
"Guess I'll just... Sleep on the pillow pile!"
Hakaku hadn't noticed it, but while unpacking he had thrown all his pillows in one pile making a - pillow pile!
Hakaku leaped on to the pile.
"This is actually really comfortable!"
Hakaku realized how soft and warm the pillows felt in comparison to his bed.
And so on his pillow pile bed, he fell asleep.
The next morning came sooner than Hakaku would've expected, being woken up by his phone ringing.
"Hi, so I forgot to mention one thing..." the voice on the phone said when Hakaku picked it up.
"Wait, wait, wait. First - who is this?" Hakaku responded to the eager voice.
"Oh right, it's the landlord. It's nothing big... I just wanted to mention that you should be careful around the mirror."
"You mean the one in the hallway?"
"Yeah, that one."
"What, why?"
"Oh, it's just... It can come unhinged and fall so watch your feet!" the landlord said in a liar voice.
"O-ok, thanks... I guess."
"Yeah, no problem, bye!"
The landlord ended the call as fast as he had begun it.
"Well, that's weird. I guess he just doesn't want to get sued or something, so he legally has to mention it. Why not when I first met him, but now through the telephone? Strange" Hakaku rambled to himself, "Well, anyway, I should start unpacking the rest of my stuff!"
Hakaku leaped to his feet and went to the boxes beside him and started unpacking them and carrying the items to their designated places.
About an hour after he started, Hakaku picked up two boxes of manga and figurines - common otaku stuff and went to carry them to his bedroom.
Hakaku was walking down the hallway passing his dresser and heading toward the mirror beside it.
As he was passing it, without Hakaku noticing, the mirror began to shy as an eye of an entire face coming peeping out.
Then the entire head and arms went out along with the body.
The girl who had just come out of the mirror fell onto an unsuspecting Hakaku, him also falling to the floor dropping his boxes.
Hakaku blacked out, but soon came back to the beautiful girl laying on him.
As he looked at her he began to blush as he had little to no contact with other girls.
The girl on Hakaku soon also awoke and looked at him blushing and leaping off of him, stepping back scared and seemingly embarrassed.
"Wh-What?" the girl spoke in a tongue unknown to Hakaku, yet he understood her.
"Wh-" Hakaku began to say.
"Who are you?" both surprised said at the same time.
