Hakaku and Damaru awoke the next morning feeling quite ill.
"Ughhhhh." Hakaku groaned, "We shouldn't have drunk so much last night!"
"And we decently shouldn't have eaten those rocks on the sidewalk," Damaru added.
"Yea—What? Rocks? Damaru!"
"Sorry, sorry, I know. What now?"
"I have work today and I can't exactly miss it." Hakaku said as he wobbly went up to the kitchen cabinets, "The only thing we have to eat is cereal. I forgot to buy food yesterday!"
"So you go to work, but what about meeeee?" Damaru asked.
"You can come to work with me."
"Sounds... like it's my only option."
And so Hakaku and Damaru ate breakfast, cleaned up, got ready, and went to the grocery store where they would work.
"You're late, Hakaku!" the store manager yelled at the two as they entered the store, "Who's you're friend?"
"Sorry, boss." Hakaku replied, "This is my friend Damaru. She's broke and wants to work here."
"Well I don't know about thaaa—" the manager began saying, but then stopped.
Hakaku confused looked at Damaru but became even more confused.
Damaru's eyes had become a light red color and she was chanting something.
"D-Damaru? What are you doing?"
"I'm hypnotizing him!"
"Is that really necessary, tho?"
"Y-Yeeeees." Damaru awkwardly replied as she finished the spell.
Damaru's eyes then returned to their normal form and the manager of the store also came back to consciousness.
"Of course, what is your size?" the manager then asked, accepting Damaru as an employee.
Hakaku then explained Damaru's size and other information about her and Damaru was ready to work.
Damaru and Hakaku had gotten in their average grocery store uniforms - green hat and apron and a grey shirt. Average, I know.
Then they went to work they're 9:00 to 5:00 job, except it was 10:00 to 3:00.
This was Damaru's first time doing anything human so Hakaku had to couch Damaru a lot.
About halfway through they're shift Hakaku heard Damaru munching on something.
Worried, Hakaku went over to look and was quite surprised at what was happening.
"Damaru? What are you doing." Hakaku asked.
"Oh, Hakaku," Damaru replied, "you told me I can't eat anything in the food section so I came here. The food's not that good tho. I'd say it's a 6/10"
"That's fairly high for... plastic toys."
"Plastic?" Damaru asked as she munched on a plastic toy burger in the toy aisle, "What's that."
"It's definitely not eatable. Spit that out."
"S-sorry, Hakaku..."
"It's fine just clean this up, K?"
"OK..." Damaru said as she began cleaning.
After that incident, was mostly smooth sailing.
Mostly.
Until Damaru ate some ice from the fish stand and almost burned down the entire store.
"Geez... What happened here. How did you even start a fire?" the manager of the store asked as Hakaku was putting out the fire.
"I'm sorry, sir. I..." Damaru attempted to apologize, until Hakaku looked at Damaru with a sight that said "Don't tell him you're a demon", forcing her to think of a lie. Which she can not do.
"Oh her..." Hakaku began saying, unable to think of a lie until he spotted Damaru's red nails, "Nail polish is very flammable when mixed with... Fiiish..."
"Fish?" The manager asked.
"Fish." Hakaku replied.
"Fish." Damaru chimed in.
Hakaku and Damaru looked at each other and then the manager and just said "...Fish."
"Well... I'm sorry Damaru, but I'm going to have to fire yo—" the manager said as he was cut off.
Hakaku confused looked at Damaru whose eyes were once again shining. She was using hypnosis.
"It's okay. Mistakes happen." the manager said when he snapped back.
Hakaku and Damaru sighed in relief and continued doing they're jobs.
After some more working Hakaku and Damaru were finally finished.
"OK, Damaru. Our shift's finished. I've got to buy some food now. Luckily we get an employee discount."
"Yaaaaay!" Hakaku exclaimed like a child, "Whatever that is."
Hakaku bought all the necessary items and then headed home with Damaru.
After a nice, relaxing walk back home Hakaku and Damaru arrived at their apartment.
Hakaku put out all of the items they had bought into the fridge and respective cabinets as Damaru ran over to the couch and turned on the TV and switched it to the animal channel.
When Hakako was putting out the groceries he looked over at the joyful Damaru watching the cute animals on TV.
Hakaku didn't want to do anything else that day and just wanted to relax with Damaru so he opened the pack of chips he had bought, poured them in a bowl, and went over to Damaru.
"Hey, Hakaku! Watcha got there?"
"They're called chips and they're delicious. Try 'em!"
Damaru then grabbed a handful of chips and threw them in her mouth.
"They're kind of salty,..." Hakaku began saying as she ate the chips, "But they're really yummy!"
"Yeah."
Hakaku and Damaru continued eating chips and other snacks while watching the TV for the rest of the day.
They watched TV until the evening when eventually Damaru fell asleep and leaned on Hakakku's shoulder making him blush.
There alongside Damaru, Hakaku also fell asleep.
