Chapter 16 - Goron City

Link did not expect to find a great metropolis within that cave, but he did not think that it would be a town smaller than Kakariko. There weren't even houses, everything was covered in massive rock, and there were cave paintings on the walls, as if the Gorons were a modern class of cavemen. There were several levels in the city and to reach them there were corridors with stairs. At the center of the cave was a platform supported by three ropes from the floor above.

Link saw a rock at first that rose, showing another goron, who said:

"Hmm ... I'm hungry!" They are all weak due to food shortages. We Gorons are in danger of extinction! And all because we cannot enter our quarry, the cave of the dodongos. We gorons eat rocks ... And the most delicious and nutritious rocks are found in the cave of the dodongs. Although that seems like a thing of the past ... we became so picky about food that we can't bear to eat rocks from anywhere else! I want to taste the best rock sirloin in the cave of the dodongos!

Link saw another goron on the platform, so, being careful not to fall, he crossed by a rope and when he arrived, the goron said:

" Be careful!" You better do not fall! What do you want? If you have tough questions, you should ask the big boss. If he's in a bad mood, he might get mad at you ... And it can be very scary. But ... I know your SECRET. It may not look like it, but the big boss loves to dance. With the right rhythm, surely ... I remember that the big boss used to listen to the music that comes from the forest ... Oh, what good memories! Just thinking of that music makes me nostalgic ... When all the torches in Goron City are lit, the city will look spectacular!

Link returned to the mainland and decided to go down one floor, where he only saw another goron circling around that floor, which almost ran over Link, so he decided to go down another floor. There he saw an entrance that was not to go down to another floor, but had torches and a goron in front of it, who said:

" I'm so hungry I can only think of food!" -Link she asked if he knew anything about the spiritual stone to what the Goron said -¿ The spiritual stone? That red stone that illuminated our city? It was taken by the great chief Darunia. Then he locked himself in his room and now he doesn't want to go out. It's like all the lights in the city have gone out ... and people are a bit depressed ... I would like you to bring fire from the big boss room.

Link nodded and assumed that the entrance behind the goron was the room of that great chief, but he was wrong, there was only a corridor and some rocks blocking the entrance. Strange music was coming from further down the hall. There were also some very strange round flowers around the rocks, and since Link couldn't get through, he decided to go back with the goron and go down to the top floor. On the stairs he met another goron who said:

" Eh?" We don't usually get many visitors. Where you come from? —Until now Link had realized that no goron had received him like this. He said he came from the forest and goron thought about -¿ What is a forest? -Link explained where they were growing trees and plants, but still did not understand goron -¡ Now I understand even less! Nothing grows around here, except the bomb flowers ... Maybe you've seen them there. There are also no seeds or nuts you bring in, let alone those Deku Sticks.

Link was left thinking that the gorons would be used to a different kind of life than his. He kept going down and on the top floor there was a statue in the center, more torches and two entrances, one with those strange flowers (which Link assumed would be the "bomb flowers") and the other with a red carpet on the floor. They were both closed. Link approached another goron who was by the entrance of the carpet and he said:

"If I'm not mistaken, you've come to eat the red stone." What a pity! Not here! -Link he denied -¿ How? Didn't you come for that? Link denied again and mentioned the spirit stone to him. "Surely you mean that delicious looking red stone that was here before." I was so hungry that I thought nothing would happen if I just bit into it ... But when I got there it was gone! I think the big boss took her. He always says that everyone wants that red stone. The great chief locked himself in his room after saying - and spoke in a deeper voice -: "I will wait here until the emissary of the royal family arrives!" Then he spoke again normal and addressed Link -¿ You are an emissary of the royal family? If so, you must have some proof.

Link stared at the two entries, wondering which would be the "big boss". Finally he decided on the one with the carpet, because the entrance was also decorated, and then Zelda's Nana touched and immediately afterwards, the door opened. He entered a darker, torch-lit room. There were banners on the ceiling with the Triforce symbol on all of them. There were more cave paintings, some tables and rugs with strange claw symbols. And at the end there was another bigger goron (although not as big as the one on the second floor); She had graying hair and beards and was stronger than the others. It was surely the big boss.

Link approached him and the great goron said:

" But what is this?" Who are you?! When I heard the song of the royal family I expected to see their emissary ... But you are just a little boy! Has Darunia, great chief of the Goron, lost so much prestige to receive this treatment from the king? Still having a sibling covenant? Then Darunia began to raise his voice -¡ Now I'm angry! Get out of my room, quick! -Link she tried to calm him asking why his anger -¡ Cave Dodongo is full of monsters! We have had a lousy crop of bomb flowers, our flagship crop! Hunger overwhelms us due to a shortage of rocks! But ... It's our problem, the Gorons! We don't need anybody's help!

Then Link remembered that the goron on the platform said that Darunia liked music, so he took out his ocarina and played Zelda's Lullaby again, but Darunia only moved a little. Then he played the Song of the Sun, but it was all in vain. Darunia liked something that came from beyond the mountains. Something ... green ... natural ...

Link thought of Saria ... And of course! That was the answer! Maybe Saria could help him. He wanted to go back to the Kokiri Forest, but he was too far away and he was so tired that he didn't want to walk as much.

Then Link thought about Goron City and how sad its inhabitants looked, so, since there was a fire in Darunia's room, he decided to light a Deku Stick and light all the torches in the city. When she turned on the ones on the top floor, the statue in the middle began to move in circles. And when he lit the ones that were next to the entrance that Link believed was the great chief's room, the goron who was there asked him:

" How was it with the big boss?" "Link explained what happened." By the way, I saw that you went into this tunnel a while ago. Didn't you hear the music coming from inside? We love!

Thanks to this information, Link knew that this entrance would lead to some kind of garden, but how to enter? He thought for a while until he gave: if those flowers were the so-called "bomb flowers", they should explode, so he took a Deku stick again and, lighting it, brought the fire to a flower, which detached itself from its roots. and in a little while it exploded, and with it, the rocks. Then Link went further into the tunnel.
