Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: First Lesson, Magic

Belial nodded his head once everyone had introduced themselves. He had formed small opinions about each based on their introduction but still was unsure of the full personalities that they would show in the future.

"All right. Since we have gotten to know each other a little, we can get into the first lesson. All of the information in the book, I'm sure you've read. I will not just be reciting from the textbook but also imparting information that I have gathered or experienced myself.

The first thing we shall go over is the 3 types of magic. Magic in the world is divided into 3 primary types. Written, Oral, and Natural.

Written Magic is magic that consists of physically writing runes, symbols, or words to give items or beings magical properties or extra abilities. Quality of writing and control of magic determines the quality of the written magic.

The most common items to use written magic on are talismans, scrolls, armors, and weapons. There are some who use written magic on bodies but unless the person writing on you is highly trusted and skilled, then do not allow them to. They could cast a curse on you or mess up your stats easily.

The skills for this type of magic are easy to learn but hard to improve. Even upgrading a skill by a single percent in the first level takes 100 correctly drawn symbols or words.

The users of written magic are usually enchanters or runesmiths. While others do use written magic, they do not use it as their primary form of combat or production.

Oral Magic: The most common type of magic used by creatures when using spells. Even 'Silent Casting' spells are still considered under oral magic. This is the magic used is the easiest to use and to master.

Most classes that are considered 'spellcasters' have innate spells that come with the class. Spells are also limited by the class a person receives. This is a bit off-topic but a spell can only be as powerful as the class the user has. So a tier 4 classed person can not use tier 5 spells.

This is why those with lower-tier classes are looked down upon. Even if they have the chance to fight a higher rank opponent with better equipment to make their stats equal, their skills and spells will never be able to surpass someone who is above them.

Please take note to always remember this: Level can be beaten with rank, rank can be beaten with numbers, numbers can be beaten by levels, but skill is the final factor.

Natural Magic: Magic that a creature is able to use that does not fit into either category before or magic that occurs within the world naturally. This is the most mysterious type of magic and unable to be replicated. Most natural magic is control of the element without any actual use of spells. The being themselves are the spells essentially.

You guys will probably not have a single natural magic-user among your ranks. Even among SS rank demons, there has only been one in all of our recorded history.

Many magical beasts that you shall battle or command are natural magic users. They are able to use magic as easy as they breathe from the moment they are born.

Next, we shall go over the elements of magic that exist in the world. Some say gods created them, others say they occur because the elements occur in nature. There are also a few who say that they only exist due to elementals. No matter which is correct, magic exists.

Spells and skills will be aligned with one of 7 elements, which I shall talk about in a moment. Each skill or spell will be aligned with at least 1 element but advanced ones may be aligned with multiple.

Creatures will have innate talent with elements that are unable to be changed or increased. Talent in magical elements is ranked as low, moderate, high, grand, supreme, divine. Magical talent determines several factors of your spells.

The amount of mana they consume, the power of each spell, and casting speed. I will explain how each rank affects each.

None: 200% casting speed, 500% mana consumption, 25% power

Low: 150% casting speed, 200% mana consumption, 50% power

Moderate: 100% casting speed, 100% mana consumption, 100% power

High: 100% casting speed, 100% mana consumption, 125% power

Grand: 75% casting speed, 75% mana consumption, 125% power

Supreme: 60% casting speed, 60% mana consumption, 150% power

Divine: 50% casting speed, 40% mana consumption, 250% power

Wind: Abilities that deal with wind and air. Useful for scouting and fast attacks. Wind magic users are some of the most dangerous due to how quickly they can cast their spells.

Advance wind abilities may use lightning to create not only faster attacks but even deadlier ones as well. When wind magic users work together they are able to wipe out entire armies before anyone realizes it. Suppresses earth-related abilities of the same rank but is weak to fire-related ones.

Water: Abilities that deal with water obviously. Mainly used for suppression and AOE abilities. These are typically used by support magic users and used to stall opponents more than take them down by themselves although powerful water magic users can drown entire cities on their own.

Advanced abilities may use ice. These ice abilities cause the combat prowess of the magic-user to increase by a large degree. Now, not only do their magic have an impact and drown but can now also cool and cut enemies as well.

It also makes sturdier barriers than normal water. The only weakness of this is the lack o constant regeneration that water barriers provide.

Suppress fire-related abilities but weak to earth-related ones.

Fire: abilities that deal with fire. Mainly useful for DOT and explosive attacks. The main weakness of fire abilities is pure destructive power. It burns, obviously, which ruins hides and bodies that you try to capture intact. Most powerful magic users user fire-abilities when they want the total destruction of their enemies.

Suppresses wind element abilities but is weak to water element abilities.

Earth: abilities that deal with earth and minerals. Useful for defensive purposes or crushing your enemies. The users of this element are either very creative or very dull. There is rarely an in-between.

To make proper use of their abilities, an earth element user has to use their abilities as in the most minimalistic way as possible or in the most creative way as possible. Magical creatures usually fall into the first category but that does not make them any less dangerous and perhaps even more so.

Advanced abilities may use metal which increases the pros that the earth element already has to a higher degree while reducing the weaknesses. Suppresses water element abilities and weak to wind element abilities.

Light: Rarest element to have. Has the largest and most diverse number of healing abilities. Also known for its defensive and blessing abilities.

Many other races assume that demons are unable to use this element and weak to it. This is false. The element is simply even rarer for us demons to have than other races but we can still use it.

As for being weak to it, it is because those that die to it are fools. They assume that since it is just light and doesn't feel as dangerous as other elements that naturally occur in nature, it is not as dangerous and let their guards down. This causes dumb demons to die to light spells that should not have been able to beat them.

It is weak to yet strong against darkness element abilities. The pair form a natural counter to each other in a cycle.

Darkness: Second rarest element to have. Most abilities deal with shadows, the undead, or curses. This is usually seen as an 'evil' element by... less intelligent races.

Advanced abilities may manipulate the blood of the user or enemy as attacks, barriers, or curses of sorts. Just like with light, weak to yet strong against light. The pair form a natural counter to each other in a cycle.

Arcane: Neutral abilities. Have no advantage or disadvantage over other abilities types. Used for things such as enchanting, illusions, teleportation, etc. The most common element to have.

Written magic is most commonly used using the Arcane element. Besides that, arcane is usually seen as weaker than others due to its lack of advantage or combat specialty.

Advance arcane magic has many different subtypes. Spatial magic, time magic, mind magic, and more. It is the most diverse magic element but it also makes its users very hard to predict.

Any questions from anyone?"
