Chapter 12 - Travelling

Travelling was a lot less exciting than Kiro had always imagined. For most of the ride, Kiro sat in the back letting Leda have the view. He had thought to just walk, but running into Ramses was a stroke of good luck. Kiro ran his fingers through Toma's soft new fur as the fox slept in his lap.

"Kiro! We got a problem!" Ramses's voice called back. Kiro went to the front of the carriage and looked out. A dust cloud was heading their way.

"What is that?" Kiro asked trying to see for himself.

"People who made a mistake." Leda said standing up. Kiro realised he'd yet to see Leda in action but was still on the side of caution. He didn't know her skill, but he knew his were sorely lacking.

"Maybe we should play it sa-"

Leda jumped out of the carriage and landed on her feet racing toward the dust cloud.

"My advise, lad. Marry that one." Ramses said as they watched her go.

"I may consider it if we live through this. Might as well get close so we can help if we can." Kiro sat on the front seat and held on as ramses sped his carriage to catch up.

"They disturb me sleep! They die!" Toma screamed.

Kiro laughed as Toma fluffed his fur trying to look intimidating but only succeeding in being cute.

They caught up just as Leda used one bandits face as a stepping stone to kick another in the back of the head. To say she was everwhere felt like an understatement. Kiro could barely keep up as he watched one cute girl take on a gang of bandits.

Kiro was spotted by one of the bandits who decided to attack. He barely had his blade out in time to stop the other sword. Just as he was about to shove the man away, Toma flew over his head at the bandit's face.

The bandit stumbled back and grabbed at Toma's fur yanking him away. Kiro watched in slow motion as Toma was flung to the ground and the bandit slammed his foot down.

Kiro had never moved so fast as he tried to get to Toma too late. Anger engulfed his every thought as he went after the bandit who could barely deflect his blows. Kiro felt nothing as he slid the blade through the bandit.

The bandits body disintegrated into black mist the blade swallowed up. Kiro rushed over to Toma and lightly touched his white fur.

"Toma...?" Kiro's tears came flooding down as he couldn't see any breathing.

"Toma!!!" Kiro screamed as he cradled the fox into his chest and cried.

He saw blue light flash before his eyes then all went black as he slid into darkness.
