The smile has left your eyes
To her surprise it was a Tiffany box, she opened it quickly and saw a shining diamond ring. She recognized it instantly, from the pictures of Brighty. It belonged to her once. Proposed by Lay. The smile drained from both their faces. The box fell on the floor as her fingers shivered. She felt a huge stab on her chest, all of a sudden. Why has he kept the ring? Why does he still have the ring? Why didn't he throw it away? Oh, you blithering idiot, it is an expensive shit maybe he kept it as one of the assets he owns,' she argued inside her head.
"No, That's. It's of use no more. He took the box from the floor and threw it in the bin in the room." He didn't explain much. "Shall we leave an hour later? We will go to your home and rest a bit." He said to change the mood.
"Sure," she agreed and sat on the couch, not sure of what to do. Her head was about to burst. Surely he doesn't know that she had read the messages.
Around 11 they vacated the rooms and left the resort. Before the started she excused herself. She ran back to the room and in a matter of five minutes, she came back.
"What was it?" he asked her.
"Nothing, I just thought I left something there, I haven't," she said smiling. "We are good to go,"
On the way, Destiny remembered that she has to get the groceries and asked him to go straight to grand mart in Wakrah before reaching home. It is close to the place they live in. This was something Lay had never done before. They took the cart and walked around. She took everything. The vegetables, rice, needed frozen foods, juices, meat and fish, fruits, cheese and butter, and milk. While he helped her with rolling the cart behind her and take a few things that he loves. It looked like he had decided to live together with her for a week. And she felt excited about it. She took him to the snack area made him taste some Indian sweets that he had never tasted before. Then she got hot dogs for them both. They loaded the cart everything they needed and stood in line for billing while she went to get eggs. He had already finished the billing and they got out and went straight home.
"Today you will be having Fish for lunch in a way you have never eaten since you are at the house of two Asians," she told him as she put the things in shelf and the refrigerator.
"I don't mind whatever it is unless it's eatable," he joked. She put the rice for boiling and cleaned the fish and marinated them with spices. She only made it a tiny bit spicy since he was not used to the Indian masalas. She then took carrots and cabbage and made two dishes with them. He sat there watching her, offering to help and getting rejected straight. Then he took his laptop began to do his pending work. An hour and a half later, around 2, she served him lunch.
The tray was full with a bowl of rice, a big full fish fried with a great aroma that he was new to, cooked vegetables that were finely chopped and pickled. She gave him the knife, fork, and spoon to deal with food and he helped himself good.
"My goodness, this meal is yum but the calories are tons, all of my hard work in vain," he laughed.
She had only completed half while he was done with lunch. Then he helped her with dishwashing. Destiny totally forgot about the Brighty thing and concentrated only in the moment keeping the rest aside to worry about later.
They did absolutely nothing but enjoyed a good movie in the afternoon. "I can't believe you missed a great movie like La La Land Lay," she teased him.
"I was busy when the movie was released and then I totally forgot about it, well now I got to see it with you," he said and tickled her pinning her down in the sofa and climbing on top of her. And she screamed. And it was the right time Yuri came in after work.
"Yeogie saram iissoyo," Yuri said shocked.
"Oh my god, Yuria," they got up and stood up. "Wait," she told Yuri, but Yuri went to her room and shut the door.
"What did she say?" he asked having no clue about Hangul, the Korean language.
"You have got a lot to learn Lay, she meant "there is a person here" meaning we should stop, when she saw us this way," Destiny explained.
"She must be really pissed off at you," He added fuel to the fire.
They waited around half an hour for Yuri to open the door but she didn't. Destiny then knocked on her door. But Yuri was inside excited. She then opened the door.
"We need to talk," Destiny told and looked at Lay.
They settled down in the hall and stared I at each other and broke into laughter.
"So you two starting date? Omo," Yuri said.
"Yes, we did," Lay answered her.
"Am so sorry I couldn't call you last night," Destiny apologized. "Am really sorry if I worried you,"
"It's okay. I figured the moment you didn't pick the call, I already knew Lay oppa is in town so its fine."
"Oppa? What? He asked confused.
"It means brother," Yuri and Destiny said together.
"Destiny can we talk?" Yuri asked her and they both walked into the room. Yuri closed the door behind. "Oh my god," she whispered.
"Just shut up I wanna answer nothing. No a thing,"
"My goodness, are you sure about this,"
"I want to but am not, that's all I know, just shut up," Destiny said again.
"Come here," Yuri said extending her arms, and Destiny walked towards her and hugged. "Congratulations," she wished.
"For what?"
"Oh, you know it,"
Destiny rolled her eyes and walked out of the room. She honestly had no idea how to tell Yuri stuff and asked her to shut up in her defense.
A bit later Mohamed contacted Destiny asking her to meet him at his office in an hour. She got excited. "I can't believe any of this Lay, Really!"
The office was in the most prestigious tower that had even won the best architect award, Burj Doha, also sometimes known in the name, Banana tower, among the expats. Her heart skipped the beat as she got in the elevator. Lay remained in the parking lot not accompanying here. Though it was weird Destiny did not bother about it at the moment. Mohamed was already waiting in his office.
"Good morning Sir," she greeted him with a handshake.
"Call me Malik,"
"That's your name? I didn't know!"
"It's pretty long with family names and everything, you can just call me this part of the name. And Lay call me Mohamed because that's the only part he memorized." And they laughed.
"Sure," she said and took the seat.
"I believe you like to be called Destiny and not your real name, Fareeha,"
Destiny smiled at him. Of course, he would know since that was her official name.
"You must already know why I called you here," he said. "Zayn," he called someone in between, "What would you like to drink?
"Water would be fine, thank you," she told him. A short lean guy entered the room.
"Get us some water and get some crackers too." He ordered him. "He is my assistant," Mohamed told her. "I assume you are pretty well acquainted with Lay now,"
"Yes I am," she said without thinking twice.
"Where is he? I thought you came with him."
"No, I came alone," she covered for him. Something didn't feel straight. Something was off.
"Okay, so we will get to our part then," he got up and walked over to a shelf near his table. He took a file and walked over to Destiny, handing her it.
Excited she opened them. It was her offer letter and contract. She took time to read them. Her salary details were added and heart skipped several beats together, a figure she never expected in life. 14k QAR plus the allowances. She looked at him and he was already watching her smiling. Under that, she found few clauses and rules. That was usual things to not do commission works, sell the business to another firm, to not work for two companies at a time etc… and under those, she found a strange single sheeted contract. "No Dating Contracting" it read. She gave him a horrified and uneasy look. He was there sitting, all smiling.
