Best Friend's wedding
She turned to look and it was Mohamed. He laughed.
"You always get scared easily," she said nothing else. "Come," he dragged her in.
"What are you doing?" she said and escaped his grip. They were inside the store. He asked her to look around. Thinking for a few minutes she then cooled down and searched for the gown. She began to try on the gowns. She then chose a dress from the Dior's autumn-winter couture collection of 2018-19. The very recent model. It was the nude shade and she fell in love with it. As she tried them on looked at her, Mohamed made a comment, "Looks good," he smiled.
She looked at the price and she pretended to not have seen it, ignoring. She decided to get them anyhow. And she got a matching shoe for them. As she went back to the dressing room and changed, Mohamed paid for it already.
"No, no, Malik no," she told him.
"Consider this a gift from your friend Fareeha," he said. She didn't know what to do. "Hurry up we are getting late," he said while the manager handed her the dress and thanked Destiny. They went to the parking lot and kept the dress in the car and walked toward the torch tower to the restaurant for a meeting.
They took the seat and she waited for the client to come.
"Don't look around, no one is coming. I wanted to tell you something," Destiny was tired.
"What now?" she asked him. Mohamed ordered for a simple meal for both and continued talking.
"Lay is my best friend Fareeha, but I never supported his wrongdoings. But this time I saw you choose this. I wondered why a smart one like you would do this," Destiny said nothing.
"He accepted his dad's challenge. I would be attending his wedding on March 18th. I got invited for June's but I wouldn't be coming for that."
Unexpectedly, against her secret wish, Destiny's heart exploded. She really did not expect it. She believed that he would take a few months to decide before he eventually agreed. She took a deep breath and smiled at Mohamed.
"Why are you saying this to me now again?" she asked him.
"No specific reason I thought you should know. I noticed that after he got close with you, he began to avoid me. He stopped talking about you to me, he even didn't tell me about his ex's stuff. That was so unlike him to do."
Destiny looked away and kept listening to him.
"Then he told me everything after he left. When you came to the office I knew he dropped you off, but even you lied and covered up for no reason. But still, there is a plan you should,"
"Enough," she then said. "If you wanted to talk me was about Lay, Malik he is my past now." She was boiling inside. Mohamed was surprised and then he said nothing. They had the meal in silence and left soon after that.
"Convey my wishes on his wedding," she told him as she got out of the car. And he nodded.
"What about the nonsensical Dating contract?" she asked her doubt.
"And that was to stop you and Lay from making a mistake, but I didn't know you guys already did. So I threw them soon you signed." He laughed.
"How stupid," she said and walked carrying the big bag home.
Yuri was waiting for her all excited. "Come, come, come," she said as Destiny entered the house.
"What?" Destiny asked her,
"Oh my god you bought a Dior's gown, that's fantastic." Yuri said dragging her to bedroom. "Dior later, right now there is something you should listen to, one from those mean girls group called me."
"Who? Maria?" Destiny asked.
"Yes, Maria. And guess what?"
"What?"
"They are holding the bridal shower for June tomorrow, and they want me to be there with the gift,"
"Oh," Destiny was tiny bit disappointed.
"And the gift is you."
"What?"
"Apparently they still think that you two have still not made up and since you both are best friends they don't want June to be sad while she gets married."
"They are so dumb, oh my god, how could they not guess we have made up already,"
"Well they don't, so the point is you are going to pretend a bit and we go to the party and have fun, and there is one more thing, turn around" Yuri said.
"What now?" she rolled her eyes and turned around to notice two Prada's bags in the sofa. "What's that?" she asked in surprise.
"That's our bride's maid's dress. I can't believe June made me one too, it came to my office since she doesn't know where exactly your office is."
They both screamed out in excitement and started tying on dresses. Yuri fell in love with Destiny's Dior and they carefully took care of the dresses handing them properly in their wardrobe taking few old ones out.
But deep in Destiny's heart, she was upset. She wanted to cry. She didn't for what but she wished she could. She took her phone and looked at her contacts. She had absolutely no one to call. Then she took her mother's number. She felt a missing and longing to be with her family. Without thinking twice she dialed her mother. She picked up the call and Destiny cried.
"Mom,"
"Fareeha, How are you?"
"I'm not fine mom, I'm not" and she broke into a cry. Her mother listened until she calmed down.
"What happened? I waited for your call every day. April always tell me what you tell her and then let me know you have transferred money into bank."
"Am so sorry I was so angry and ashamed when I heard from others. I stopped contacting everyone. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I didn't know how to, I know how much you have tried to keep everything together. But it was mutual. Your brother also opinioned that it was better and for good."
"So dad's with brother in New Zealand?"
"Yes, he fell sick in between and dad wanted to talk to you, I gave him your new number, but they said you never picked up."
"I never did,"
And she talked for a long time with her mother, catching up with every family stuffs, about her new job and June's wedding. Except about Lay she told her mother everything and found a relief. She felt a heavy weight going down her shoulders. She hung up an hour later and she cried herself to sleep. She didn't know how to control the moment. And it's her 'best friend's wedding'.
They had the worst bridal shower in the history and June was too upset she let the girls ruin it. It was funny when June opened a human size gift box to find Destiny inside with ribbons all over her.
"What are you doing inside there?" June asked hugging her.
"I hardly know,"
"When did you two make up?" Sara asked confused.
"Surprise" June and Destiny shouted to them.
Everybody was so upset that nothing worked out. The party was so boring and they had dinner very soon and dispersed.
"Can anything suck more than this?" Yuri asked while on her way back. Then they called June out, took her to their apartment and had a wonderful night themselves talking about flashbacks, first meetings and fights and every guy she met except of course not mentioning Lay. Yuri then told June everything.
"Oh my god you love him, why else would you slap him unless you were so disappointed?"
"I guess so, but it's over for good now, am done."
"And we are getting married on the same day too, who would have thought about that," she said thinking about her two weeks.
"Please don't," Destiny knew and she warned June. They laughed for a while and they remained silent until they fell asleep.
Days passed and it was already the wedding day. Destiny tried her best to ignore the other facts except for June's important day. Mohamed as her boss exploited his power and made sure the HR department gave Destiny a 40 days holiday to go home since she requested him for leave to visit her mom and sister after two years. She kept herself excited about getting back home.
June looked stunning in her Chanel's wedding down, off-shoulders and Tariq, her husband an introvert and doing his best with everything for the most extrovert girl like her. 'And there, in the end, the adventures of June the explorer and is the beginning of eternity,' Destiny thought wearing that amazing sky blue bridesmaid's dress standing with all seven bridesmaids together near the altar.
That evening, Destiny entered the reception hall wearing her Dior and the vicious group literally opened their mouth. Yuri helped her boast around creating a new reputation of a career woman who has become very successful in a matter of two years unlike them all who needed various steps to reach the sky. Sara and Maria approached her trying to be close to her, while Destiny rejected their invitation and enjoyed the evening well. Dancing and singing and eating and helping June to pack for her honeymoon she had to leave for in two hours.
"Remember to keep in touch June, though you are married, we will all be here and you are welcome any time," June hugged her best friend with tears in her eyes.
"Suddenly everything looks so new and am nervous as hell Des, like even after being with Tariq for a long time now, it feels new and am nervous."
"And that's a good sign, the longer you feel that the more in love you fall with that person and life never gets boring," Destiny told her. "If you feel every day as new and you gotta do something new for him then you have got the right person to spend the rest of the life with," Destiny rubbed the tears off June's face and carried the bag for her. June didn't change her wedding dress, she said she wanted to show off at the airport. They had chosen for a complete trip around Australia, canceling the plan to tour around their native countries"
Later that night after the reception, everyone gathered and sent newlywed away to their honeymoon and had little more fun at the party without them and left home. Destiny hurried back home since she had only a few hours to catch her own flight.
"Will you not come back?" Yuri asked her out of nowhere. "Why are you packing this much?"
"Because I have absolutely nothing to wear at home and a few are new I shopped for mom and sister," Destiny told her not stopping the work. She then looked at Yuri for a moment, "Why wouldn't I come, I finally have a great job, good raise, an apartment and gonna get a car, why would anyone on their right mind quit this and go home? Baobo aigoo,"
"I thought you were," Yuri said embarrassed.
"I won't ever. And we will be shifting once I get back so be prepared. Begin packing stuffs slowly, it's going be either in Thumama or D-ring road inside Doha, they have yet to decide which one,"
She finished packing and lay peacefully in her bed to catch with a few hours of sleep before traveling. But with curiosity killing her, she took her phone and opened Instagram. As she expected there was a post of him, posted 24 hours ago, 'bachelor party' the caption read. A group photo with a huge crowd of men. She took his account, to check further. And she found a picture of them on the beach they took while stayed at the resort. She smiled at them. He had put no caption in them. Then the most recent post was of the altar with the caption 'her day' with an emoji of a bride alone. It looked beautiful arranged with pink and peach roses. She stopped smiling as tears ran down her face. She stopped looking at his pictures. Suddenly her phone began to ring, she noticed that it was an unknown number with the code she had no idea of which place.
"Hello," she picked up the phone.
"Is this Destiny?" a girl's voice asked her from the end. Her voice shivered and cracked in between crying.
