Chapter 8 - Shayda I

Mat smiled at me as we cuddled together, I kissed his cheek and he looked longingly into my eyes.

"it'll soon be the Afterlife Holiday. Is there anywhere you want to go?, someone you want to see?", he asked.

I thought hard, eyes suddenly misting "well...there is one person", I whispered.

"Do you miss him?", he asked solemnly.

"really. Are you acting jealous now?", I asked

"What?. Who?. No", he brushed it off.

"Look, I'm not going to see Asher or in this case Samsara. aka. Sam"

"Yeah, you don't sound convincing enough", he said in a bored voice.

"I don't love him anymore. That was a lifetime ago. Now I love you, only you Mat", I tried to reassure him.

He gave me a dimpled smile which I couldn't help but reciprocate. He looked so ethereal with his midnight sometimes chocolatey eyes staring into my face as if he was memorising each and every bit of it.

"You're so beautiful". He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine in a kiss which I responded to, allowing my lips to convey every message my voice couldn't openly convey. The passionate kiss lasted a moment longer before he pulled away so we could both catch our breaths.

A dimpled smile formed on his face once again as I straddled him and he held my waist.

"I promise I won't go and see him". He only nodded briefly, "I trust you".

Time flew so fast but we didn't have any idea how to measure it, so today, clear skies, beautiful flowers blooming in the Afterpark and Vampire Semen in my hand, I watched Mat lick his Devil's Tears as the Soul Deputy manager announced that it was afterlife holiday.

All recent souls were allowed to go back to their previous life for a day. The AIDs were stamped with a small black serial number specially for all those were leaving.

I smiled excitedly at Mat who seemed slightly jealous that he didn't have the opportunity to go.

"Hey jealous papi...is there something in the human world you've missed?. You can tell me, I promise to get it on my way back.

"Bath bombs, Sausages, Marmalade and Mint chocolate icecream"

I laughed, "wow, I do not want to know the kind of life you lived back then. It's good we forget most of that once we're here"

He made a pout as he sulked.

"don't sulk, you look too cute. I might become boyfriend-less by the time I get back if other girls here see you do that"

He smiled and pressed a kiss to my forehead.

"I'll be waiting for you".

I smiled as we all headed towards the checkpoints.

The machines beeped, scanning us one after the other. I saw some being sent back because they hadn't accumulated enough points in order to go to the human realm.

I on the other hand accumulated most of my points by doing volunteer work like helping out kindergarten schools, cleaning the park and takimg care of elderly people.

I smiled when the light showed green and I waved back at Mat before I took a step and everything went black.

When I opened my eyes, I was at a lake estate. Like a bulb, a part of my memories flashed through my mind, including the fact that I'd been to this lakehouse before. The part I had tried with difficulty to express during the filling of the forms. I told them I'd wanted to see my family members.

If I'm here, then it must be that my family members were here. As if on cue, I heard shouts emanating from the building . There was a loud crash and then absolute silence. I walked cautiously to the house even though no one could hear me.

Gently, I pulled the handle of the door open and entered.

Two people, a beautiful young girl probably in her late twenties and a man probably in his early thirties stared at me.

"You didn't even close the door?. What if it wasn't the wind this time but freaking bandits?", she asked him as she passed me by to close the door. I frowned... I'm the wind?, I asked myself in confusion.

I walked further into the room to find pieces of ceramic plates and pots almost everywhere. Unless they enjoyed trashing stuff, the damages were a little suspicious to be ignored by a curious cat like me.

"You have to admit the truth. You slept with her. You cheated on me", the girl suddenly shouted.

"I'm not admitting to anything...and you can't make me either"

Oh, so they were a couple arguing about their own infidelities. No wonder everything seemed to be thrashed. I find human arguments a little aggressive especially since I've been to the afterlife. Most couples do not so much as quarrel and if they do, it is normally in a teasing banter.

These two looked like they could kill each other.

Gosh I hate cheating partners.

"Know what Jayda?...I'm out of here", the man declared and walked out while the woman just dropped into a chair and sighed.

"I know he's cheating, I just don't have enough evidence", she whispered to herself and began to cry.

I took a deep breath, staring at her before turning towards the door and walking out. That is how I decided to follow the man.

Luckily, I saw him just as he opened his car and sat in, pulling it from under a nearby tree and stopping just at the main junction to check if other vehicles were on the road. I quickly jumped in through the open window and he frowned as a gust of wind suddenly passed through the car.

He ignored it and rolled the windows up instead.

I smiled, waving my hand infront of him to make sure he couldn't see me.

Taking a breath of relief, I sighed when he didn't even flinch. I was practically invisble to him. About 30 minutes of non-stop driving, the car was pulled outside a club.

Who comes to a club at this time?

My lips formed into a straight line as I watched the man get out and walk in. It was afternoon so the club wasn't open yet and I wondered what he was doing there at this time. He turned and walked and I followed, now confident that no one could see me.

The man stopped by a door and smiled as he pulled out a card to swipe. Once the door opened, I found myself shocked. There in front of me was a woman dressed in an animal fur coat with her chest on full display. Her breasts were jutting out at the man in question and he smiled.

Okay?, weird.

She smiled back in response.

"Come here baby... I've missed you ". The man swiftly pressed his lips to hers and the door closed behind them.

Shortly after, I heard sounds fill the room.

"Ow, yes Bryant...mmhm".

My eyes suddenly darkened. How dare he cheat on that poor girl?

To think that she was right afterall too.
