SPECIAL CHAPTER : MAITRI'S POV

I watched her, a big smile dancing on her lips as she sat beside me. Today was the honorary day for her brilliant achievement, finding a way to calculate time here. Today, she would get to meet other honorary members like Einstein and even the brilliant MJ himself, among many others.
She really looked so happy that there was literally a glow all over her face and looking at her inacted feelings of guilt inside my heart. The fact that I still hadn't been able to tell her the truth about myself unsettled me. My secret about being a Grim Reaper could ruin everything for her yet I couldn't bear to let her go either. Since these two options were no longer options to me anymore, I considered resigning from my job.
Problem is I can only be allowed to resign if I fulfil the requirement, and that is to capture the longest lost souls assigned to me. They are three of the most notorious lost souls in the history of the Afterlife and just my luck that they had to be assigned to me. Of the three, the most dangerous is Darksie, and then Blackie Soula, the only female amongst the group with the last being Reckso.
I have had many encounters with them but they have managed to evade me every single time. I wasn't proud of this and just thinking about it made my blood boil in anger.
Nirvana smiled at me and I found myself smiling back, trying my best to not give away my inner turmoil.
Just then I saw Shanti take a seat just besides me. She had a huge smile on her face and I was glad that for once she wasn't being jealous. I was happy that she seemed to genuinely be happy for Nirvana on such a wonderful day.
What a lie that turned out to be.
It seems she basically came to either tick Nirvana off or seduce me. Either way, she came with a vision to ruin today for the both of us. And I would be darned if i let that happen.
A small frown was present on my face as I watched her fingers slowly slide up my thigh. It was the classic seduction move and I guess no one updated her on the fact that is was too overrated. Especially because I was a Grim Reaper. Reapers were old-fashioned and all, but we just hate the classics.
I guess she isn't finding peace in the afterlife like she was supposed to. Poor her. She had been jealous in her previous life and she still is jealous in this one, enough to covet things that didn't belong to her.
Her fingers travelled higher on my torso and I grabbed them, turning as Nirvana sent a smile my way from her seat just to the right of mine. I smiled back all the while hoping she wouldn't see the little show that Shanti was putting on. There was really nothing to look at as it wasn't even a worthy show for her eyes.
Thankfully, she averted her eyes quickly and I turned with hard eyes onto the girl seated to my left, Shanti.
"You better stop with your little antics", I said through gritted teeth and she smiled.
I was beginning to get annoyed as I glared at her, shifting a little as I turned to my beautiful Nirvana. We made small talk as I tried to not give the attention-seeking female to my left any attention whatsoever.
Nirvana was finally called after a few more minutes, to receive her award and I watched her as she elegantly made her way towards the small stage . My eyes shined like a proud boyfriend, and that was to say the least.
Finally, I turned to the waoman beside me, swatting her hands from my thigh and warning her with a glare.
"Ow Mat baby, don't be like that. I might be forced to do something drastic", she said with excessive batting of her eyelashes which made me internally cringe.
I physically cringed as I looked at her and she didnt look too happy at my reaction.
Wait a minute, was that supposed to be her trying to act cute?
Well she failed, my Nirvana can definitely do better without even trying.
And hold on, did she just threaten me?. I wanted to scoff, what could she possibly do.
"Look, I know you're desperate and all but you should really try getting a man of your own", I said to her.
She raised a brow questionably, eyes raking my face and chest. Her hand snaked around my arm firmly and she leaned in to whisper something into my ears.
"I know your secret baby boy. Want me to tell her?", she nudged her head in a forward direction.
Just then I saw Nirvana walking towards us with a smile. The smile faded, only to be replaced by a frown as she stepped closer to us in that questionable position.
I quickly pulled away from Shanti, sending a smile to my Nirvana. She smiled back and I felt relief wash through me at that.
She sat by me and I couldn't help but kiss her on the cheek.
"I'm so proud of you baby"
Her smile deepened and I saw the faintest hint of dimples on her beautiful cheeks.
Soon, the ceremony was already over and I was super grateful that I didn't have to deal with Shanti any more. I grabbed Nirvana's hand and intertwined our fingers hoping to quickly get out of there and spend some alone time with my girlfriend whose afterlife I could be ruining at this very moment because I'm keeping a big secret.
But the last thing I wanted was to have her worry. My jaw clenched as I thought about it and a new kind of determination raked my body. The determination to find those three troublesome souls so I could finally resign and be with my Nirvana forever.
A voice filtered through my thoughts and I turned to find Shanti with a smirk plastered on her unappealing face. Her eyes darted to the woman whose hand I had in mine and her eyes glinted with an unsaid emotion.
Peehaps plain jealousy.
"Mat, don't forget what I told you!"
