Chapter 44 - Cindy might get the wrong idea.

Melissa trotted to the front desk and asked the receptionist, "I'm here to meet the Editor-in-chief, is he free right now?"

Receptionist looked doubtfully at her, "May I know, who you are Ma'am?"

Melissa: Melissa Davis, I'm his friend.

: Okay Ma'am, let me ask him.

(After a while)

:He is free, you can go.

Melissa: Thank you.

Melissa knocked on the door.

Alex: Come in, wha— why are you dressed up like that?

She was, once again, wearing a black mask and sunglasses making her look suspicious.

Melissa: Just my new get up.

Alex: Oh, that's quite unusual, what brings you here today?

Melissa: May I take a sit first?

Alex: Of course, I'm sorry. I'm a bit stressed out.

Melissa: No problem.

Melissa took out a notepad and the brown envelope from her bag.

She wrote down something on the notepad, "Well, I've written a short story and I want you to read it". She passed the note to Alex and gestured to read it silently.

After reading it Alex raised his eyebrow and Melissa nodded. She took out the envelope and placed it on the table, "It's a 3 pages story, tell me how it is and if you can help me".

Alex: Well, you can see I've got a lot of work right now. Mind if I read it later?

Melissa smirked, "Sure, let me know".

Alex nodded, "Let me get you a cup of coffee".

Melissa: It's alright, I'm in a bit hurry. I took half-day off from school.

Alex: Then I won't keep you here for long.

Melissa heaved a sigh of relief and left, 'I hope it's gonna work'.

Alex took out the paper from the envelope and read the content. As he kept reading, gradually his face got serious. He put the paper in the envelope and kept it aside. He rested his chin on his hand, 'There isn't much time...'

Matthew took a sip of wine as he typed in his laptop. Someone knocked on his door, "Come in".

Charles: You're day drinking again.

Matthew: it's just wine. Have you managed all the paperworks.

Charles: Yes. I've booked the ticket for next week.

Matthew: That's early...

Charles: Better to prepare the schedule beforehand.

Matthew leaned on his chair and looked toward the ceiling, "I'm thinking of taking Cindy with me. What do you think?"

Charles: But M&A didn't ask for any interview.

Matthew: I'll just tell her, we're going on a vacation.

Charles: I see. What about her kids?

Matthew: I'll take them as well.

Charles: Then I'll book their tickets

Charles was going to leave when Matthew called out, "Wait".

Charles: Yes?

Matthew: Book one for Melissa as well.

Charles raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure? Cindy might get the wrong idea".

Matthew: Well, she will be happy if I do move on from her. I'm just gonna tell her it's a thank you gift for sending me to hospital. After all, she saved the life of the CEO of Ultraviolet records.

Charles: Alright. I'll book one for her as well.
