The sound of her fist colliding with the punching bag was the only thing that could be heard in the room but Birdie wasn't listening, she was too engrossed in her thoughts to care about the noise or her bleeding knuckles.
It was the second year anniversary since her family died and the emotions she was feeling left her confused and in a haze. She did like her father asked and trained till she couldn't breathe, she tried her hardest and she was still doing, she focused in her studies and kept her mind busy with hobbies.
She became a master in piano, and could possibly cook anything you wanted. She started college and was majoring in computer engineering and biochemistry which she was good at and she ended up one year ahead and the first of her class, she then met her best friend who became her support.
He teached her the way around the world since she didn't know much since when her family passed away she just turned eighteen. Now she only had one year left and was anxious to finish it, even though she liked her career and she had a friend, but she was still excited to finish to focus on the new life she was so desperate to build far away from this place that held so many sad memories.
She and Jason planned to move to London and start fresh, they've been talking about creating a software company since they met and now they just had to go through one more year of hell.
Birdie had also managed to become so good at computers with the help of Jason that she became better than him, much to his disappointment, and now was secretly doing jobs as a hacker well known as Shadow.
Apart from Jason she continued seeing Marga which she now called Auntie Margie because of how much she helped her through her bad times and how much the bonded through the years, she even helped train her sometimes even though she wasn't keen on the idea. She became one more in her family and was like a big sister to her kids.
All in all she wasn't doing bad but today was a different story. She couldn't think of anything except for that day. She woke up and immediately went to the basement to beat herself up till she couldnt think. Even though her AI, which she named Frank, was telling her every five minutes to stop she didn´t.
¨Either you stop or I call Margie¨ Frank was tired of meaningless warnings and was now all in to the idea of calling Margie to make Birdie stop, even if he couldn't understand much cause he was not alive he could get that she was hurting herself.
"Yeah go ahead and do that, I'll disconnect you faster than you can say potato"Birdie said breathlessly, she was so tired she couldn't really move her arms anymore but she didn't stop. She didn't intend to until she fainted or something, just to forget. "Also you need to ask me if you wanna do anything so I don't see how you could call her without my direct order" she added mockingly, she already had enough of his annoying blabbering about her wellbeing.
"Alright if you want you can drop dead but don't forget Jason is coming this afternoon, he said something about a party, remember?" he said in a triumphant manner which only made her more annoyed because she knew he was right. She and Jason planned to go to a frat party today to help her forget for a bit even though she really didn't like parties, but she knew Jason was doing it for her so she couldn't protest.
"Ok, you win, are you happy now? Cause I sure am not" she Birdie said with a sigh "Can you remember what time he was going to be here?" she tried to remember but between all her tiredness and that this was planned months ago she couldn't remember.
"Well since you asked he is supposed to come in about two hours" he said smugly knowing she would be annoyed because he didn't tell her in time. Even though she wasn't one of those girls who cared much about makeup and clothes she still liked to be presentable.
Birdie didn't even answer, she already had enough of Frank, she went upstairs to her room and while she started going up the stairs she couldn't stop herself from thinking about her family again.
She stayed in her old room, she didn't dare take the master bedroom, in fact, all the other rooms were untouched with the doors closed. Everything was the way they left it. In her brother's room the bed was unmade and the notes on physics were still in his table, in the room of her other brother the clothes were still all scattered around the floor and her parents bedroom was still as impolute as they left it. All the doors closed to close all the memories, even though that wasn't really working.
She decided to put all her thoughts aside and focus on the night ahead of her. "I'll have a shower and then I'll see if the dumbhead takes my call and I´ll ask where he's taking me" she started talking to herself, the house was so quiet she wanted to fill it with something because quiet means you can hear what you're thinking.
She turned on her speaker and went on spotify in her phone. Today she was in the mood for something relaxing and dark, like her mood, but she went on the happy playlist, "Might as well get in the mood" she thought.
After washing up with her raspberry shampoo and vanilla conditioner she washed her body with her piña colada. When she finished she wrapped herself in her fluffy bathrobe and went out of the bathroom to try and call her bestfriend or as she likes to call him, her very own trouble maker.
As she was grabbing her phone a call popped up in the screen, it was Jason, she started laughing discreetly at the timing and answered.
"Hello J?" she answered containing her laugher "What are you laughing at B ?" He asked like he was mad, but she knew he wasn't. "Nothing, it's just that I was about to call" Birdie said now openly laughing.
"Yeah sure, you're just saying that so you don't look like a bad friend" he said in a childish voice. "Whatever" she said like she was bored "So why were you supposedly calling me for uh ?" Jason said like he was sure she wasnt to call him.
¨Well if I don't remember wrongly you said we were going to a party tonight so I just wanted to make sure I was wearing the right thing" Now Birdie knew she got him. ¨You remembered ? I was calling to tell you to don't forget about it¨ he said with surprise in his voice, he knew that today wasn't always her best day and was prepared for all the moodiness she was in normally.
"Yes I remembered, now what should I wear" She said in a deadpan tone "Well wear something casual but classy you know ?" at his answer she wanted to facepalm but decided that it was best if she just started deciding what to wear since she didn't really have much clue,"Alright thanks for the no help, I'll see you later".
She decided in a black jean skirt and a white tank top with her leather jacket and her high heel black boots. She was so short it was painful, now that's an exaggeration but she really was small, and she was very aware of it since everyone tended to call her cute and adorable and she didn't like that. As she was tying her boots on the doorbell rang. She took her purse and went downstairs.
