They went in Jason's car since it was in a better state than Birdie's as she kept her family's car that was rarely ever used. She went running to college and showered and changed there as part of her training, she always prefers to run outside watching the landscape go by, than in a treadmill inside. As they're just getting out of her diveaway she realizes that she didn't know were he was taking her.
"Well, when are you going to tell me where are we going ? Is it a secret or what ?" She said in a rather annoyed tone. "You already know we are going to a frat party. It's in the frat house a mile away from college, I don't even know their name, I just heard that their parties are great so I'm taking you" he said it like it was smart, but Birdie didn't think so, an environment she nor her friend knows, anything could happen there but she won't tell him that. She'll just have to be more careful.
The car was quiet so Birdie plugged her phone and opened her spotify. She asked what he was feeling like listening.
"I don't know just something with rhythm to get in the mood" Birdie rolled her eyes but complied.
When they got to the frat house Birdie could only think that this night was going to be a disaster. The music was so loud you could barely hear your thoughts and the house was packed, the garden was even fuller. People were dancing to the horrible music and drinking in those typical red cups "So original"she thought rolling her eyes in her mind.
She didn't like parties for a lot of reasons: she didn't know anyone cause she just hung out with her best friend, she didn't like the music as it was this ear breaking electronic one that was so loud that your ears hurt, she didn't like to be around a lot of people after the incident and finally, everyone knew her because she was the best student the university had at the moment, and there was a lot of envious people and also unwanted attention.
As they got out of the car a lot of eyes were set on them, and Birdie suddenly felt a little self conscious. She stuck to Jason as they walked in and were greeted by people she had never seen before.
She could hear all the whispers about her, most were positive but there was some people glaring at her like she killed their dog.
"That's Birdie right ? The girl that skipped a whole year doing a double career ?" someone said "Yeah she's a legend, she gets the best grades all without attending to some classes and avoiding everyone" "Yeah right, she's an absolute mystery, I don't even know her full name" "I've heard a lot about her but I thought she looked like a nerd or something, not so badass" "I know she's so cute too"...
And they went on and on, she just stopped listening all together, she couldn't be bothered about what anyone thought about her except for J.
"Here we are, what do you want to do first" he asked, he was smiling inside, "he was the best friend of the most interesting girl in campus, everyone is talking about her and she doesn't even care" He thought. "How about we hit the bar first" she needed a drink to get through this night. "Alright alright let's go" he said now openly laughing.
"What do you want to drink ? You have this mysterious punch, tequila, rum, whisky, mojito and a lot more of crappy things, so what is it?" Birdie laughed at his best friend's antics "I'll have a mojito please" she said laughing. She almost forgot all the people looking at her.
"Ok what do you want to do now, do you want to dance ?" he asked knowing very well she wouldn't want to "Are you my best friend or what ? " she answered in a deadpan tone, "Ok jeez don't kill me" now he was laughing and she rolled her eyes. She needed some fresh air, "Let's go to the balcony, I need some air, here stinks of tobacco and there's too many people"
As they got settled in a table in the balcony and chatted for a while, Birdie realised she needed to go to the bathroom after having her mojito, she got up and went after telling Jason that he could go to dance downstairs if he wanted.
When she was done she didn't want to go back to the party or the people so she went for a walk around the house to explore the place. The house was old style with a very well done architecture and a fancy decoration. She wondered how it was all so perfect being in a house full of twenty year old boys.
She roamed through the rooms and suddenly found herself in a big salon with a grand piano in the middle. She couldn't resist so sat in the piano stool and opened it. It was beautiful, all shiny, it looked new. She started warming up with a few exercises from when she was little but that she continued using. After her hands were warm after being in the cold january weather, she stopped playing. She didn't want to play it if she wasn't supposed to, but seeing that there were no signs in the door to not enter she decided it wouldn't hurt anyone.
Birdie was always taught to play with the heart and even though it was difficult showing your feelings she did.
Considering that today her feelings were a mess she picked a really messed up song that could make anyone dizzy, except she played it with so much emotion that it was really sentimental and not at all abrupt.
She started playing Danse Macabre by Franz Liszt, and she closed her eyes to feel it all. She didn't notice that there were some people that entered the room and that some of them went to tell the others that she was playing.
Meanwhile Birdie was playing, still with her eyes closed. She knew this piece by heart, she played it so many times to let her anger and frustration off of her that she didn't need to look. This time however it backfired on her since now by the door behind the piano a bunch of people stood recording her. Everyone was stunned, ¨How could she play so well ?¨ they thought. Everyone who could posted the videos they were taking on instagram and sending them to their friends in whatsapp.
Her playing was really that amazing. She hit every note right and channeled all her feelings through it. The song sounded so melancholic and furious at the same time that it was really difficult to watch and not cry.
Birdie stayed all those years trying not to attract too much attention but now all her efforts were done for. In a top secret secured facility in the north of spain in a place called Llanes, she was being watched in big monitors by the WSIA that finally got her in their radar after so many years looking.
She however had no idea of this as she was playing the last notes of the song. The final was so violent but also so armonic that it made a few people cry and get emotional. As she finished the people watching went in uproar and started clapping and screaming . She then realised the mistake and cursed herself for not being on alert at all times.
She was enjoying the song so much she just had to get lost in it damn it, she thought. Now she had to go home and delete all the evidence. "I have to find Jason" she thought, and so she went through the sea of people to find her best friend and fix this mess.
