Chereads / The Coward's Journey / Chapter 6 - Intruder

Chapter 6 - Intruder

John now sits in his given room for the rest of the day until night fall thinking about what to do with his new abnormalities. That night, after he finally chose to go to bed, he hears a sound just outside his door. His door creeps open and lets someone in to creep around until they reach the bed. John wasn't there. Suddenly, he drop from the top of the bed curtain and and pins the person to the bed with his claws at their throat. When he looked closer at who had snuck in his room...

John:... Miss Hale? The hell do you think you're doing, sneaking up on people when they're trying to sleep, woman?

Sicily: making sure you weren't doing the same, you creep.

John: *sigh* look I understand you are very suspicious of me and all that, but you don't have to be. Whatever you think I'm going to do... Or even capable of, forget it. I'm just passing through. Well... I was until I just became prisoner in this room till the king says otherwise.

Sicily: oh? And why is that?

John: you probably could have been able to tell already but apparently I have an abundance of power that I need to learn to control.

Sicily: power? What?

John: so you can't tell either? Just like Casper.

Sicily: don't you compare me to that low-bred bastard!

John: easy, princess! Man, you are harsh.

Sicily: oh, unhand me already!

John: no! I don't trust you. You harassed me and then tried to jump me in my sleep. What makes you think I'm letting you get up just cuz you got ranks?

Sicily: because if you know whats good for you, you'll let me up so I can at least hit you once.

John: see? Threats, assaults. Violent. Unreasonable. Self centered. Egotistic. Hateful. And bratty. All things that put you in the lowest category of crappy people in the world. And I really hate people like you. Leave or disappear.

John gets Sicily up and drags her to the door.

John: now stay away from me.

He slams the door behind her and goes back to bed.

John: great now I can't sleep.

Cat: didn't think you had that much in you. Well done.

John: what? Snap at someone I didn't like? I've done it before. They usually leave me alone after that.

Cat: and if they don't?

John: I'm not mentioning that.

Cat: alright then. Since you can't sleep, why not meditate. It might help you relax.

John: okay... How do I meditate?

Cat: sit in a comfortable position that you can hold for a good while. Close your eyes and try to empty your mind.

John does as the cat says. He leans back on the bed frame and shuts his eyes.

Cat: now start taking slow steady breaths until you feel yourself in a void of space. This space is called your equilibrium. A place within you that represents your balance of peace and strong will.

John is now in the space. Its dark but clear and his surroundings no longer exist. He is left in a large open darkness, yet he is comfortable and feels safe.

Cat: I want you to focus on your blood flow. Concentrate on the feel of your heart beating in your chest and find its rhythm.

John soon feels a soft beat pulsing throughout his body and soon a heavy flow of warmth circulate for his chest to his head, fingers, and toes, the back.

Cat: now you probably feel a large palse coursing through your whole body. Try to make it so it is only centered in your chest and hold it there for as long as you can, then release it through your hands.

Johns eyes slowly open but only in a case as his body shifts in an upright position still keeping the concentration. All of his focus is on the warmth flowing throughout his body. It slowly decreases and stay steady in his chest still pulsing regularly as he holds it in place for as long as possible. He starts feeling the warmth leaving his chest, and concentrates on pushing it back to his hands. His claws push out as the warmth oozes from his fingertips and settle in his palms.

Cat: ooh~... That's a new.

John looks at his hands. A small flame dances in his palms calmly like a blue candlelight. It was cool to his hands yet warm.

Cat: I didn't think you were concentrating on that power they were talking about earlier. At least now you can go back out with this. But...

John:... But what? And what do I do with this?

Cat: see what you can do. For now, it looks like you can control my element, which as you can see is fire. Just It keep concentrating. You'll get the hang of it.

John continues to study his new ability until he felt a twinge on his shoulder distracting him, like something was calling him. The little flame in his hand pops and turns into little bright red stars, then trails off in the direction in the twinge as if guiding him somewhere. He as an erge to follow it. Then the room begins to fill with the little stars, until the floor was in a sea of light. Some of them gathered to the cat who vanished from the bed. They change the cat to the shelf by the door. The cat paws at them as they stick to his tails and legs.

Cat: hey! What the heck is this?

John: I think I found something of yours.
