Chapter 11 - Outcasted

John stood in the guest room he was given at the castle packing his things along with new light travel armor and defense weapons. Rexar sat on the bed watching him quietly purring as his tails swayed back and forth with the clock on the wall. Someone knocks on the door.

John: yeah?

It opens with Casper on the other side.

Casper: you're leaving already?

John: uh... Yeah. Wouldn't want to be any more trouble than I'm worth. Plus I'd rather not hear anything else from the rest of the royal family about yesterday's "incident".

Casper: then you should take someone with you. The whole kingdom is completely grateful to you.

John:... Not the whole Kingdom.

John walks Casper to the window and opens the certain. A stone flies at it as shouts from across the wall are nearly heard from a small angry mob.

John: and that doesn't look at all like gratitude either. No offense.

Casper: no!! Not at all! I'll make sure to put them in their places.

John: that's not necessary. Honest. I just wanna go.

Casper: well before that, the king wants to see you.

John: no disrespect, but I just said I didn't wanna hear it from any of them. I had enough of an earful from Ms. Hale and her father. I don't think the king will be any better.

Casper: trust me you'll want to hear him out.

John finishes his packing and goes out with Casper. Rexar trailing close at his side. They reach the throne room where King Hale and the rest of the family and guards wait for them. Casper bows and walks to his place at the side the others, leaving John in the center of the room. John sets down his bag and gives his bow, hands cupped together at his stomach and legs together.

King Hale: good. You haven't left yet.

Guards surround John at a fixed distance. Casper looks to them in confusion.

King Hale: I have a proposal for you, sir John Reh. But first I want to ask you one thing.

John: okay...

King Hale: how would you feel of training here for combat? Protect this kingdom from the dangers of the world? You will of course be rewarded well.

John: no, thank you. I only came here to rest before moving on.

King Hale: then as for my proposal. Become this kingdoms guardian and you can have anything you want.

John: you basically just asked me the same thing in a more demanding way. No. I don't want to stay here, your majesty.

King Hale: and I don't think you should leave.

The guards surrounding john take a fighting stance. All weapons aimed for John.

King Hale: now. If you don't accept this I will have no choice but to imprison you here. Choose.

John: ... That doesn't seem fair, now does it? Making me choose how to live the rest of my life.

King Hale: I have no other options. You power is too great to let roam freely. I cannot let you leave and put my kingdom in that sort of danger again.

John: so you find me a threat? After I saved your kingdom? Or is it the masses that are afraid of me and you want to find a way to shut them up?

Sicily: how dare you!! Learn you place, demon!

King Hale: Sicily!

John: heh. It's been a while since someone called me that. Look, obviously you want to satisfy the masses and keep peace in your kingdom. But my answer is no. I'm not staying here either way. And you know neither you or your men can stop me from walking out that door.

King Hale:... very well. Kill him!

Casper: what!?

The guards charge at John. Once they hit the center point, John had vanished. A scratch is heard from above. Everyone looks up and sees John in his beast form crouched on a frame. He jump from frame to frame toward the exit.

King Hale: stop him!! Don't let him out those doors!!

The guards race John to the door, throwing their spears and shooting arrows at him. John lands in front of the door and walks out backwards sarcastically. The guards continue chasing him and attacking. John bolts across the bridge and heads straight for the main gate. The guards shout to the gate keepers to close it. John slips through them just as they were closing shut. He made it out of Camus La Verse. He knew he wasn't out of the line of fire yet, so he takes off down the rough path and didn't stop running until it grew dark.
