Colorectal cancer.
Those words resounded in Scarlett's mind over and over without any clear interpretations. She'd definitely heard of it before and knew it was a cancerous disease that affected the colon but that was it. That was all she knew. And all she knew didn't equate it to her mother having it.
It made no sense.
She looked the doctor dead in the eye and he stared back at her with a worn out and pitiful look on his face.
"Like I said earlier, nothing is certain until the results of the tests come out but from the symptoms we've noticed and the answers to the questions we asked the patient, it's very likely we're dealing with cancerous cells."
Scarlett looked away from the doctor and slumped in her chair, her mind uncomprehending of the situation and the doctor's words.
It made absolutely no sense at all. How could her mother have cancer? No, that was just a very stupid assumption to make. Bullshit.
