"Her results came out positive. I'm so sorry, Miss Jones." The doctor's expression was sad and forlorn as he announced, but it also looked like he'd been through this way too many times.
Scarlett nodded and stood up, eyes and mind blank as the doctor handed her the documents containing the test results.
Her body had gone numb. Her blood felt like it was freezing up, her fingers unmoving and her brain lacking oxygen. She suddenly felt lightheaded. She'd been preparing herself for this moment over the past few days. So why then did she feel so weird. Like she was in the process of ceasing to exist.
"Miss! Are you okay?!" The doctor's voice sounded so distant now. Why? What was happening to her? She felt her heart beating dully against her rib cage, its rhythms resounding in her ears like echoes of drums beating to the tune of death.
