That night we sat around the fire, cooking the deer and fish that Robert brought back.
I noticed Adrian was sitting a ways away from everyone else. Adira must have noticed too because she stood and went to sit beside him.
I watched as she put her hand on his shoulder. Adrian spun and roughly grabbed her wrist out of instinct, ready to attack. He saw it was her and apologized as he let go.
She sat down by him. I couldn't tell what was being said, but Adira noticed me watching and gave me a soft look that said, 'What he was alone'.
ADIRA JOHANSON'S POV
I looked back to Adrian and noticed he had been looking at the small scar on the left side of my forehead. I could tell he wanted to ask about it, but he wasn't going to.
I was hesitant at first. I don't want to just flat out tell everyone about my life, but then I decided I could tell him, "It happened when I was young. I was sliding around in the kitchen in my socks when I slipped and hit my forehead on the counter."
I knew he was trying not to laugh at my story.
"Its stupid, I know," I said, laughing a little at my own story.
"I didn't say that, but you may want to come up with a better story if anyone asks. I could think of ten better stories."
"Really? Tell me one."
"Okay. Maybe since you're from Canton and there's horses and ranches there, you were out with your horses and one went to kick the other horse, but missed and hit you in the forehead. Boom! Better story already!"
"How is that a better story? Also how did you know I'm from Canton?"
"It's better because it's different and not the average story, and also I was told you're from Canton and Nico said you were on a horse when they found you."
"Yeah it's a different story than what you usually hear but it's still kinda weird."
"Do you want it to be a knife story? Throwing Knives?" he shrugged.
"Knife throwing?"
"I can throw knives."
"I bet you suck at it," I laughed.
"Alright then. You can tell whatever story you want, but believe me when I say can throw knives."
I was still laughing, and when I had stopped I said, "Nico told me that Archer said you're a little unstable. I'm not really getting it though."
"You've been talking to me for five minutes. You haven't really seen my true self."
"Your true self? I know a bit about you."
"Exactly. You know a bit about me. You don't know about my scar on my upper shin," Adrian pulled up his left pant leg to reveal a small scar on the back of his leg right under his knee, "So I had my sword and I was going to put it in it's sheath which was on my belt. I thought it was going into the sheath and loosened my grip to let it fall. I realized it was falling faster than it does when it's going in the sheath and caught it, but it had pierced into my leg just barely."
I was about to say something when Adrian looked behind me and his smile faded, "Duck!"
I didn't question if he was talking about the animal or if he was telling me to get down. I guessed the second.
Adrian pulls a knife from his belt and threw it at a walker that was coming up behind me. I heard the blade sink into its skull. As it fell to the dirt Adrian looked down to me, "Still think I can't throw knives?" He then turn to yell to everyone.
NICO ABERNATHY'S POV
"There was a walker!" I heard Adrian shout.
"There's another!" Johanson added.
"There's another one over here in the woods!" Noah said as he stood.
"They've found our camp," Liam Jackson muttered under his breath, "Get the guns!" Damien and Archer ran off. "Lucas, Thea, Wyatt,Katrina, and Lila. Get to tents and start packing! We're heading out of here." Liam drew his glock and shot a walker that was going towards him.
Damien and Archer started handing out the guns.
Adrian and Adira both got shotguns. "Shotgun buddies!" he says.
"You really want to be a cowboy?" Liam aksed as he held out a six shooter, "Its our last gun."
I took it and start shooting the walkers.
"We should make a circle with our backs facing in so that we don't have to keep watching our backs!" Noah suggests.
We decided to do that. I had Adrian on my right, Adira on his right, then Damien, then Natasha, Maya, Noah, Aria, Robert, Archer, Daniela, Coby, Sadie, then Liam on my left.
"You lead them to our camp with that stupid car alarm, Adrian!" Liam shouted.
"Well I'm sorry!" Lister yelled in response.
"Are Thea, Wyatt, and the others safe?" I ask, stopping their argument.
"You want to go help them? You and someone else? We've got enough people here," Coby suggested.
"Yeah. Is anyone going with me?"
"I'll go with you," Noah and I broke out of formation, but the others filled it in.
I ran as fast as I could to the tents. We both shot a couple walkers that we saw.
The tent I slept in with my family was now empty. I felt panic and fear take over my body. I left the tent and ran, shouting their names.
I heard a gunshot, but it didn't come from the others. I figured Noah had ran into a walker, but then there was another. Then another. He had emptied his entire magazine.
I ran to where the shots were coming from, thinking he was shooting at a big group of walkers, but he had shot all of them and was reloading when I got there.
"Nico! Noah! They're in the rv!" Adira shouted in the distance.
We made it back to where the rest of the camp was, not including the ones who packed up. The two of us had shot a couple walkers on the way. The majority of them were going for the others in the circle.
The rv door opened and Lucas, a light brown skinned man who was twenty six and was the medic of the group, walked out onto the grass.
When Coby had shot the last walker, I ran to my wife and son and pulled them into a tight embrace.
"Is anyone hurt?" Lucas asked.
"Where's Mom? Maya asked. Maya Berkinly, Noah's younger sister, was fifteen, but she acted much older like Noah. Any younger person who's alive at this point and has seen this stuff must act older than they are.
"She's in the rv," said Lucas, but Lila had walked out of the rv when he said that.
"I'm right here," she said. She went to walk over to the front of the rv, towards Noah and Maya, but before she could pass the front of the rv, a walker had grabbed her and tore his teeth into her shoulder.
Noah shot his entire magazine into the walkers head, but he couldn't do anything about it.
Him and his sister were both kneeled beside their mother, who was sitting with her back against the front of the rv.
I went inside the rv, not being able to watch the two teens sorrow over their mother.
Thea saw me come in. She was about to ask me something, but she stopped.
"What happened?" she finally said.
"Nico," she put her hands on the sides of my face when I didn't answer, "tell me what happened?"
I lead her back out front where everyone was gathered.
Thea kept asking what had happened, but she went quiet when she saw Lila.
I stood to Noah's right. He had reached up for the six shooter in my hand, I let him take it.
"I'm sorry," he said as he put the barrel to his mother's head and pulled the trigger.
