Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight

"Adrian, you know the way to North Augusta so you will be in the lead," Liam announced over the radio.

"Alright," answered Adrian as he got in the front of our line of cars.

"How far is it to North Augusta?" Lucina asked

"It's about two hours."

"That's not to bad," says Liam.

**************

The trip was going by slowly, but we're almost half way there.

The kids in the back were doing there own thing while I talked with my wife.

"Where do you think we will go in North Augusta?" she asked.

"I don't know, but I'm sure Adrian knows a place, but you've known him longer than me."

"What do you think about him?"

"I'm not sure yet. I'm not surprised he made it this far."

We continued talking throughout the two hour long trip. Luckily we didn't have to make any stops, because I wanted to get out of the car as soon as I could.

"We're coming up on the city limits," Adrian announced.

The city looked like any other city nowadays. All run down and lifeless.

North Augusta seemed a little better than Atlanta. Alright, that was an understatement. It looked so much better than Atlanta. It's not as big of a city, but that could be an advantage. There's a lot of trees and forest for hunting.

I could see the city limit sign ahead, but before he passed it, Adrian stopped suddenly.

All of us in the line stopped behind him, and I jumped out of the car. Adrian was out of his car as well.

"What's going on?" I shouted at him.

"Drop your weapons and put your hands up!" a voice yelled from the distance.

I slowly reached for my gun and pulled it out of the holster. I sat it on the pavement and raised my hands.

I could see Adrian up ahead. He was iffy about dropping his gun, but eventually he did.

"Adrian?" the voice shouted.

Many scenarios were running through my head, but not one where they knew him.

"Who are you?" replied Adrian.

A woman with long, dyed white hair stood up from a bush and gave a soft smile to Adrian.

"Wait, Beatrix?" responded Adrian.

"Yeah. I knew you couldn't forget me. So you're with a group of people now?"

"Yeah. I led them here because our camp at Atlanta was attacked by a big group of walkers, and the entire city is overrun at this point. I was hoping to find a place to stay here."

"Walt, lower your gun!" Beatrix shouted.

"Oh, sorry!" a male voice replied.

"How many people are with you?" asked Beatrix as she walked towards us.

"Quite a few, I'm not sure on exactly how many."

"I can take you back to our camp. We have plenty of space and we have enough stuff and can always use more help. It's just me, Walt, Russel, and Alexander. Russel is blind too, so he's not much help."

"Wait so you don't just have the entire city as a base because that's what it seems like?" I asked.

"No, but our camp is still pretty big. Get back in the cars and I'll take you there."

Beatrix and a tall, skinny man with glasses and short brown hair got in a car together.

I got back behind the wheel and Wyatt asked, "Who was that?"

"A woman Adrian knows. Her name is Beatrix. She said she has a big camp and she will let us stay there. I don't know if I trust her or not. There's three other people with her, oh and one of them is blind."

"One is blind?" Noah asked, "that's kinda cool, considering he's still alive."

"Adrian knows her, so I think we can trust her," Thea says.

"I'm still now sure," I respond, "I know you."

"Do you not trust me?" she looked to me.

"No that's a joke, I promise. I trust you."

"Did they say where the camp is at?" asked Maya.

"No, but she said it's a big camp and they have plenty of room and could use more people."

"I'm surprised they don't have the entire city as a camp. I thought they did because of how they stopped us right at the city limits," Noah said.

"That's exactly what I said."

Liam was asking what happened over the radios while we were talking. Adrian had answered him and told him about Beatrix.

"Yeah we were friends growing up," he had said.

"Do you know who the other guy was?" questioned Liam.

"Yeah. That's Walter, or Walt. He was also friends with us. To be honest, I'm surprised he's still alive. But at the same time the have a blind man at their camp, so anything I possible I guess."

The rest of the car ride went quickly. They lead us into the woods, not creepy at all, and I was getting a bit suspicious. Then I saw their camp. It had a fence around it and another secondary fence with and area of gravel for us to walk around. I guess. There were two, two story houses and a barn. Four towers, one at each corner. Some farm plots and a stable for horses and one for chickens.

"They really have it made here," I say.

Beatrix showed us where to park our vehicles, and she showed Archer where he could put the RV.

I got out of the car and asked Beatrix where we should put our tents up. She told us that we won't need those because they have plenty of space inside.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Yeah. Do you not trust us?"

"Well, with the way the world is now I don't know who I can trust."

"I understand that. I didn't trust you guys until I saw Adrian."

Beatrix gave us all a tour of the camp, showing us what rooms we can stay in as well.

"Thank you for bringing us here," Liam said.

"It's no problem. Like I said, we needed more people around and also you guys seem trustworthy now," she smiled.
