Chapter 1 - Chapter One

Daichi's POV:

I casually made my way down to the gym with Asahi as the end of day bell rang. The two of us walked into the gym and were welcomed by the smiling faces of our underclassmen.

The coach entered the gym only minutes later and we all gathered around. It was just a regular practice and it was going as it always did. I made my way over to the bench where I usually leave my water bottle to get a drink. I squeezed my bottle and the only thing that came out of it was air. I sighed realizing I had forgotten to fill it before practice.

"Coach, can I go fill up my bottle at the fountain?" I asked.

"Yeah, just make it quick."

I walked out of the gym and sighed, smiling to myself as the cool air hit my face. I walked through the quiet halls of the school on my way to the fountain. I screwed off the lid of my water bottle and placed it under the nozzle as it slowly filled with water.

Once it was almost full I pulled away and turned, but before I could put the lid on I ran into something; a person. I felt the cold sensation of water soaking through my shirt.

"I'm so sorry." Sighed a light voice.

I looked at this boy not really knowing what to say.

"It's okay, don't worry about it." I smiled.

"Are you sure? Your shirt is soaked. I-I have an extra shirt in my bag if you want." He explained.

"No, it's really fine. Water dries after all." I laughed. "Thank you though."

"So, do you want me to refill your bottle for you?" The boy asked.

"No that's okay." I smiled.

"So um, what's your name? I know I've seen you around but I never caught your name." He shrugged.

"Oh, it's Daichi Sawamura. And you're Koushi Sugawara right?" I smiled as I filled my bottle.

"Yeah, how did you know?" Sugawara asked.

"I've seen you around and I remembered you from when I went out to eat and you were performing your music. You're really talented."

"Thanks." He smiled, his face became a light shade of red.

I have only heard Koushi perform once, but I remember it so vividly. My parents and I went out to dinner at a pub and Sugawara was performing there. I honestly thought about that night a lot, but I mostly thought about Koushi when it came to thinking about it.

After I filled my water bottle and Sugawara got a drink, the two of us walked down the hall.

"So, what are you doing here after school so late?" I asked.

"I have band rehearsal, I'm guessing you have volleyball practice." He shrugged.

I just nodded.

"Well, I'll see you around." Koushi sighed as he walked into the music room.

I sighed as I felt his face heat up, I smiled to myself and jumped into the air with excitement. I looked up at the clock on the wall.

"Damn." I sighed to myself as I quickly ran down the halls.

I had been out for about five minutes, that's far from a quick trip to the fountain. I burst into the gym trying to stay as casual as possible, but it didn't take long for coach Ukai to notice.

"Daichi, what took you so long? And why are you wet?"

"Oh, I spilled my water and then I had to clean it up sir. I'm sorry." I explained.

"It's fine, just be more careful next time." He sighed.

I walked out onto the court and continued with practice. The rest of the day my mind was clouded with thoughts of Sugawara, his smile, his hair, his voice. This feeling felt new to me but I knew what it was, I liked him; not just as a friend. I couldn't even consider him as a friend yet, we've talked once. But he said he'll see me around so obviously he wants to meet up again.

Maybe it was fate that we bumped into each other, this is the universe telling me that he and I were meant to be. Maybe I should've asked for his number, no that probably would've been too sudden. I'll just meet up with him again tomorrow and we'll get to know each other better. I can't wait, hopefully tomorrow will be a great day. But tomorrow can't come without finishing today, so I cleaned, packed up and headed home.
