The girl and the man continue to sit by the fire as the sirens continue to blare throughout the city in the distance
Man: ok, so you were able to escape from the police... but if you went to Tamashi...then why are you still here?
Girl: Things didn't go exactly as planned...
-Flashback- Location: Taikal Harbor
Girl: The only way to safely get us to Tamashi was by cargo. Hiroshi has no problem being seen since he worked at the port. With the help of his friend, they snuck me onto the ship
The girl is sitting inside of a wooden box. There are a few holes in it that allow some light through, but not big enough to tell where she is
Girl: The police suspected I would be trying to escape Taikal. They had already secured the road leading to Meihei, and no one goes into the mountains...and survives. They knew my only way out was by ship
Things were running smoothly...until they got ahold of Hiroshi's friend. These days, people are more scared of the police, than to trust and help their friends.
He ratted us out
We quickly fled from the boat but got caught up at the last second.
Police Officer: Get her! Don't let them escape!
The girl and Hiroshi are running off the ship, trying to get out of the shipyard, but the girl trips and gets her feet tangled in netting. By the time Hiroshi noticed she fell, the police had her surrounded. The officer standing in front of the girl activates his fire ability and strikes at the girl. She starts to dodge but wasn't fast enough. Burn marks are scattered along the left side of her body.
Man: Those scars...that's from them isn't it.
Girl: Hiroshi was able to get me out with his cloaking ability. Ever since then we've been hiding out in this building. It's been tough but we're getting by.
Man: How long ago was this?
Girl: Three years ago [Starts tearing up] They were going to kill a 14-year-old girl. And for what? Not having an ability? [Angry] Everything about this world is so unfair.
They both sit by the fire in silence as the girl starts to calm down. They can still hear the sirens blaring.
Girl: [Calm] You know they're not gonna stop until they find you [pause]
What'd you even do?
Man:[Looking ashamed] All I did was steal some money. My job wasn't paying enough and I wasn't able to feed my family.
Girl: All you did was make things worse. Every action has a consequence. Good or bad.
Man:[Looking down] Yeah I know...
Girl: [A faint glow appears in her eyes] We all make bad choices sometimes, and that's ok, but you can't run from the consequences, you have to own up to it. No good will come from you running away from it.
The man sits with his head in his hands. The girl gets up and walks over to the windows to look at the flashing red and blue lights.
Girl: They have probably identified you by now. They'll find your family...
The man has a terrified look in his eyes. The girl walks up to him and put her hands on his shoulders.
Girl: I know it's hard. The world we live in isn't fair. I promise that one day it'll change, but for now[ She looks in the directions of the sirens and then looks back at the man] you need to be brave and do the right thing. [The faint glow remains in her eyes] Your family will be okay. I promise. [The faint glow disappears]
The man grabs the bag full of money and heads toward the doors, before leaving, he turns around.
Man: I never got your name, I'm Mohan.
Girl: Amarie.
Mohan[Faint smile with a tear rolling down his cheek] Thank you, Amarie.
Amarie smiles at Mohan as she watches him leave. Mohan exits the abandoned building with his hands up in the air and starts walking toward the police cars. Amarie gets up and looks out the window as she watches Mohan surrender himself to the police. Showing no signs of threat, Mohan reveals himself
Amarie's face remains neutral with her pupils slightly dilated. She can still hear the sirens
Three gunshots go off
Amarie's face goes into shock. Her pupils constrict and her hand covers her mouth. She hears a faint thud as tears roll down her face. She collapses onto the floor, sobbing.
-About an hour later-
Amarie is wrapped up in a blanket, lying on the floor. Her eyes look tired from crying too much. Hiroshi enters the building, with a bag full of food.
Hiroshi[Not yet realizing what had happened] I'm back with the food. Sorry, it took so long. I had to wait until things cleared up. It looks like the police finally caught who they were looking for.
Amarie starts to tear up again, but her body is too dehydrated.
Amarie:[Voice breaking] His name was Mohan. He just wanted to help his family[voice starts to break even more] I told him to do the right thing and I got him killed...I killed him...
Hiroshi: [Worried] I don't know what happened while I was away, but... he did the right thing. They would have killed his family. As long as Putrum dictates this land, the police will be as ruthless as they want. They don't understand what it's like to be us.
Amarie stops crying but has a look of anger in her eyes. She gets up and looks out the window
Amarie: I promised him his family would be okay. I promised that the world would change. But when...
Amarie starts packing her bag angrily
Amarie: I'm done hiding from the world.[Heads toward the door]Its time to put an end to this.
Hiroshi: So what's your plan. Go out and get killed? You don't have an ability. How are you supposed to defend yourself?
Amarie: [Looks down but has a serious expression] I don't know yet, but I have to start somewhere.
Amarie takes a step out of the door and turns around to look at Hiroshi
Amarie: You coming?
Hiroshi: Where are we going?
Amarie: [Slight smile] We need to go pick up a friend.
-end-
