Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

(After Gaya fades away, Eden turns her sights to the stone wall, sealing off the entrance to the temple.)

Eden: We need to get into this temple. Would you like the first shot at the stone wall? I doubt your sword could break it, fragile thing.

(As she turns back and looks at Dante, she notices that he is in the middle of a deep thought and walks towards him.)

Eden: Would you get a move on? We don't have time to waste for you to be lost in your head.

(Dante still doesn't move.)

Eden: Do not tell me that Gaya has gotten in your head?!? (She shoves Dante) You don't believe him, do you?!?

Dante: I don't know what to believe, but what I do know is that I can't form an opinion without knowing everything.

Eden: What do you mean?

Dante: He mentioned your mother. Have you've been in contact with her?

Eden: No. The last night I saw you was also the last night I saw her. And since the last time we've seen each other, I've never stopped tracking them. That night when I abandoned you when I saw you I wanted to help, but something in my head, in my mind, pulled me towards them...And so I did. (Eden places her hand upon Dante's face.) I believe me when I say this, I could never betray you.

(After a few seconds, Dante sighs and grabs Eden's hand.)

Dante: Don't worry, I believe you. Now let's put an end to this before things get out of hand.

(As Dante says this, they both proceed to walk up the stairs and when they reach the top, they stop.)

Eden: So what do you make of this wall?

Dante: Off first glance, you would think that this is an ordinary block of stone, but a closer look can reveal a lot. For example, this stone wall has been imbued with strong magic. And if you take another look at this Temple, you can tell that it's been here much longer than we have.

Eden: So what's your guess?

Dante: Its been here for centuries. No doubt this stone wall has been reinforced countless times over. Nevertheless...On three. One...Two...Three!

(On three, both Dante and Eden attack the stone wall, Eden with a punch & Dante with a kick. The force of their combined strength shatters the stone wall. Upon entering they quickly notice writing all over the walls within the temple.)

Dante: This language....I've never seen it before. How about you?

Eden: I've learned many languages during my training, but I've never seen this before either. This language is definitely ancient.

Dante: Come. Let's continue on, Gaya cannot be too far. After all, it is a temple.

Eden: Just look at this place. It's completely empty.

Dante: But this writing is everywhere.

Eden: You think this is a trap?

Dante: I do. I know nothing of them. With nothing, I can't predict their patterns or even know where to start. This group has been around longer than books can tell. So if anything is for certain, this is most definitely a trap. Potentially a life-altering one. We must be on guard at all times if we hope to come out of this alive.

Eden: It's not like you to be so serious, Dante. But if you are, then that means the gravity of this threat is insurmountable. Do you think we can stop them?

Dante: Yes, but it's not likely that we will be leaving with our lives. There is an immense level of magic flowing beneath us, do you feel it?

Eden: I do, but I wasn't aware of it earlier. How long ago did you find out?

Dante: The moment we entered the forest. At that point, it was weak and I thought it was nothing. Once we arrived at the temple, I knew.

Eden: Can you sense how many people are underneath us? Your sensory skills have always been better than mine.

(Dante squats down & places his hand on the floor. As he tries to sense the enemy, his focus gets demolished as he begins to hear an imperceptible chant and along with it, is an immense wave of dark magic unseen by Dante and Eden. Subsequently, Dante is visibly shaken up upon feeling the power seeping through the cracks.)

Eden: It's that bad...Isn't it?

Dante: Yes. Don't worry, I have a plan. I just hope that they get here in time.

Eden: What do you mean? Are you calling for backup?

Dante: Yes, but not to help in the fight, but to save us before it's too late.

Eden: Okay. Are you ready then?

Dante: I am.

(As Dante says this, they reach the end of the corridor and proceed to walk down the stairs only to see an endless amount of masked individuals with Gaya front and center. In front of Gaya is a well with magic flowing within it. On the walls is the same unreadable language except now its glowing red.)

Gaya: You know, I've done my research. I've heard about the wickedness that follows when you two are together. The destruction of Kaian City...The fall of Oshu District...The eradication of Damashi Kingdom. You two together have made the strongest of empires fall, but tonight will be a different tale. The elegant, but deadly Lady Eden and The Vaunted Bloody Crow, hear me and hear me well....You will not survive this encounter. However, before we commence any further, I do have a question to ask. Are you ready to be sacrificed to The Void?

(As Gaya says this, Eden takes a few steps forward.)

Eden: Well I must say that was a great speech. You sure do talk the part of God, but in truth you are nothing.  You like many others have spouted the same rhetoric that it will be you that will send us to our deaths and yet after every battle here we stand. You Gaya, like all of our foes that came before you, will be reduced to a lowly corpse gasping for life...But I am not without honor. For you, I will not hold back, no. I will use every ounce of power that flows within me.

Gaya: Oh?

Eden: You should feel honored. No one has lived to tell the tale after facing the full extent of my power...But enough talk. Let me show you exactly what I mean.

(As Eden says this, she is instantly engulfed in a roaring and out of control red aura. Moments later, Dante walks up alongside her fully immersed in his Bloody Crow Attire.)

Dante: Let the hunt begin.
