As she turned around to see them...his arm wrapped around her small waist as they made their way in.
"Don't they make the ideal couple?"
She heard them as she watched them walk in. They did not see her.
"Like the former Anila and Dante...the golden couple of Richmond."
They were comparing him and her with the former quarterback couple. Anila, the head cheerleader and Dante, the captain of the basketball team.
Emily was the head cheerleader then and Shawn was playing too well and there was no doubt he was soon going to lead the school's famous basketball team.
They looked perfect together. Indeed once again the golden couple in creation. She could not help but feel the burn of jealousy all over her skin.
And all of a sudden, he saw her, looking at her and when she realized his eyes were on her, she did not know what to do or how to react.
Before something more could happen, she looked away and sat back in her seat.
It made him know that she was still not over what had happened and sat beside Emily who was busy conversing with her friends.
"They do not even look like they are into each other."
She looked at the guy, who took a seat before her. It was the current captain of the basketball team.
"She broke up with me to be with him."
He told her. Did not even know why a guy that she had no idea who he was and so did he, was telling things like these to her.
"You like him. Don't you?"
She was taken aback as she stared at him. How come he knows? How come it was so obvious?
"The kiss said a lot of things..."
Right...that kiss last night at the party in front of everyone. It gave away a lot of things to everyone.
"You are?"
"Jeff Rodriguez...I lead the team."
Della could recognize him then. She had seen him before too with Shawn. At the party when he took her on his bike.
"We will talk more Adella Gomez later."
Jeff said, getting up as the teacher made his entrance. She watched him walk out of the class and then saw him...
His eyes were all over her, wondering what Jeff was doing with her.
"Good afternoon class. This is Mr. Medina..."
The class started with them having unresolved questions all to themselves, not knowing how to resolve the situation.
After the class was over, Della chose to leave as soon as possible from there before something more could happen.
But then she was stopped by none other than him. She looked at him and the chill vibe around him was long gone.
"What was that Jeff talking about?"
He asked and right then and there, she understood what it was all about.
He pressed the matter when she did not respond to him and picked up her backpack to leave either way.
"How long are you going to be like this?"
He gritted his teeth and she gave him her cold shoulder, trying to walk past him, he held onto her wrist in a way that nobody could see them.
"Really Adella?"
"Let go of me, Shawn."
She gave him her stern eyes that passed a clear message that asked him to do as she told.
The look was very much clear to their relationship and it was the same with him too.
They both would understand each other whenever the other one would pull that look, the next one would just step down and follow the other one's lead.
"Oh please, Adella."
The audacity he had to keep coming back to her after what he had done.
Kissing her like no tomorrow in his Maserati and then going back to his girlfriend at the party that she never knew about.
And here he was acting as if she was being unreasonable. She wanted to be anywhere in that moment but be near him.
"Go back to your girlfriend, Shawn."
She said that out a bit loud, drawing Emily and her girl's squad's attention. Shawn finally let go of her, not before whispering near her ears.
"Will see you at dinner."
She forgot about it. Every weekend it was dinner over at the Randall's place.
He smirked at her knowing from the look on her face that it had crossed out of her mind.
And in there, she would not be able to escape him at all. So he gave her the much-needed side for her to walk out.
She followed through right away, not turning back once at all. Even though she felt his scrutinizing gaze all over her back.
The rest of the periods went by and she did not even know how time passed, because the next moment, she had her mother calling out her name downstairs, ready to go to the Randall's for dinner.
"Della come down now...we are already late tonight.
Can't make them for the dinner now...can we?"
Bethany yelled out, putting on her shoes. The work in her mini bakery was too hectic today so it took her a bit more time to close off.
Della came down at a slow pace and stood in front of her mother, who eyed her weirdly. She was not ready yet.
"I do not feel like going tonight..."
"What happened?"
Her mother was quick to ask, being concerned because she would be the first one to always be ready for these dinners and wait for Beth on the porch and it was for the first time in eighteen years that she was declining to go.
Even when some days Beth would feel too lazy to go, she would force her mother to tag along.
"I...uh...do not feel well..."
She did not know what to say. Her mother's closely inspecting eyes were making her nervous.
"Did you drink too much at the party?"
"Mama!! If I did then how could I have gone to school?"
She could not believe her mother would say that. Bethany just shook her head and collected her purse.
"Go upstairs and get dressed. We are leaving in fifteen minutes."
