I did my best trying to avoid her sight, careful not to make my presence known to her in any way. I was still furious at her, but I was also a bit calmer than before now, because I had a much bigger and a much clearer goal in my head.
She brought dinner with her, and shared it with Momo with much displeasure. Someday if it comes to that, I would not mind actually killing this woman. I would do that right now if I could, but then I'll lose the advantage I have on her as a ghost. I would be even more worried, but I am already banished from the 'Beyond'.
When she fell asleep I had really hard time trying to possess her as well, maybe she was not tired to that extent yet? I was starting to worry again about failing.
"Why don't I try it?" Ken suggested out of the blue. I gave him a look of utter confusion on my face. "I am much more experienced with possessing people, you just had to keep her awake for the night right? Let me do that. You can take over in the morning."
I agreed to his plan as it seemed like a best course of action at the time. To avoid waking up Momo, once she fell asleep he came to the living room and decided to chat with me the whole night. It was so weird talking to him, with that face it was like talking to myself. At the same time it was getting harder not to hate our chat because looking at her face boiled my non-existent blood. I switched with him as soon as the sun hit the horizon.
In the morning I checked Momo's temperature and saw that she was feeling better. Whereas I was torn between letting her to go to school and going to my office for a personal swoop, or keep her here and take care of her. She seemed very wary of me, but nevertheless she informed me that she already had too many absences, she could not afford to miss school.
A part of me felt surprised, that how can someone her age enjoy going to school? But then it clicked me, she just wanted to get away from me. She was terrified of me from her inner core. Maybe in her heart she knows its not me, but she is too scared to speak out? Who knows.
Luckily Oliver showed up just in time or I was about to be late. I did not know whether or not will that be a problem. I was after all unfamiliar with her work routine.
It took us thirty minutes approximately by car to get there. The building where she worked was magnificent. It looked like it was one of the top companies of the state, if not the country. The area seemed like a business area, almost very there building here was an office or a firm of some sort, apart from few restaurants here and there.
The building was labelled as 'Langston Enterprises' in big Roman font. I entered it with both of them beside me. Saying that I was worried for today would be an understatement. The receptionist greeted me with trembling hand as she greeted me, trying her best to maintain her smile. She seemed really scared of me.
"Wel..come" She bowed slightly and waited for me to move along. Just what kind of reputation did I have here? Was it all just by that evil wench?
As per Oliver I was supposed to go to the seventh floor. Apparently I had a whole office to myself.
I was about to enter there before I heard someone call me twice. "Virginia! Virginia!" It was a somewhat familiar high pitched voice.
I turned around and saw a familiar face. It was the same woman whom I saw in my vision of the wedding. The one who insisted to take my pictures, despite my refusal. I felt a feeling in me, like I wanted to give her a hug, just like you do when you meet your best friend after a long time.
"Where were you yesterday?"She asked me with utter displeasure. Her attitude was completely different from the one in my vision. Did we grow apart?
"She was the woman I was talking about, who said 'Virginia is not Virginia anymore'" Oliver whispered in my ears. It suddenly made so sense.
This was weird? She left Momo to come here right? Then why wasn't she here? Where did she go, that was so important? I will have to figure it out later, for now I will see what I can do here. I was only going to posses this imposter for a day, it was useless trying to mend the broken bonds she created so splendidly, so I played along with this cruel act.
"Wouldn't I have told you already, if it wasn't any of your business."I replied with a smirk. Even I was surprised that I could react this way, it was indeed a surprise for me. I hated talking like this, but I have to be careful enough.
"Just so you know, even I don't care." She snorted. "I was just asking because our New Vice President was asking for you. He specifically asked for every project managers to be present at the meeting. So unless you give him a satisfactory reason for your absence, you are done for." She rolled her eyes at me.
"Well, I will see to it, you can focus on your work now." I said and was about to be leave when I heard a deep voice from behind.
"Manager Stanford, meet me in my office ASAP" He turned to leave, before he halted.
He was wearing well pleated suited which gave him the perfect expression of authority. When I saw everyone bowing at him, I had no doubt in believing that he was the new Vice President she was talking about. His stoic expression indeed made him look scary.
"Oh and bring your project report as well." He said in a deep baritone and left.
I stood there frozen for a whole minute. Turns out I chose a very bad day to come to this office.
