Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

Back outside, all four members of Fifth Avenue Square were discussing about Nathan's feelings for Roxie.

"I don't understand. Isn't this what you wanted in the first place after the water war? To have you and Roxie's relationship go from being professional to more than friends?" Landon rephrased.

"Hold on; we don't even know if Roxie actually does have feelings for Nathan in the first place. There is a slight chance that Roxie might not feel the same way about Nathan just yet." Paul pointed out.

"Gee; thanks Paul. That makes me feel a whole lot better." Nathan remarked.

"Hey; don't blame me. I'm just stating the facts." Paul shrugged.

"Well we can't just force Roxie to admit to us how she feels about Nathan. That will be cruel." Calvin said.

"Calvin's got a good point. I barely got Roxie to trust me these past few weeks. If I even try to force her to state her feelings for me; it'll just lead me back to square one again." Nathan stated.

"Ok; well there's got to be something for us to do?! We can't be just walking on egg shells with this situation." Paul shrieked. All of a sudden the boys heard the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs by the kitchen.

"Hey Nathan; can I get some water? The girls and I are getting a bit thirsty." Cassie asked.

"Yeah; there should be some water bottles in the fridge in the bar." Nathan said.

"Cool; what are you guys doing out here?"

"Oh, we're just talking."

"Really; what are you talking about? Could it be about Roxie?"

"Yeah, I mean no-." Nathan stuttered. Cassie then smirked and started to giggle.

"So you do have a crush on Roxie? Well, this got interesting." Cassie said sarcastically.

"Cassie; I get that this is a bit astonishing-." Paul stated.

"Astonishing? This is just even more interesting ever since I got here! Roxie is my best friend and the fact that the guy that saved her who also is helping her find a publisher may have feelings for her is a big deal." Cassie shrieked.

"Technically; all four of us are helping Roxie out with finding a publisher." Nathan mentioned.

"Ok, well look; Roxie should at least know about how you feel. You can't keep this secret from her because sooner or later she's going to find out the truth or it's going to be too late." Cassie remarked. Cassie then walked back inside, walked to the lounge and grabbed some water bottles before heading back upstairs to Roxie and Annie.

"So what are we going to do?" Landon asked Nathan.

"As of right now; we keep doing what we're doing. I'll probably not tell Roxie how I feel tonight since there's a guarantee she'll be focusing on making sure Cassie has a good time tonight." Nathan said. The group then got up and went back inside the pub and continued on with the party.

As the day went on, the party slowly started to die down. Once it got to the point where everyone was tired, Roxie along with Nathan, the rest of Fifth Avenue Square and Nathan's cousins started to load up all of their belongings including Cassie's luggage into the van.

"Are you sure you don't want to ride with us in the van?" Cassie asked Roxie.

"No, go ride in the van and get to know Paul, Landon and Calvin. Besides I have to get the boys' supply of food for these next couple of weeks. Also I told the other three boys to give you a tour of the boys' house which I know you're going to love," Roxie replied. "Plus by the time I get there; you'll probably be asleep." she added.

"Good point. Ok; then I guess I'll see you at the house." Cassie told her. Roxie then hugged her best friend and said goodbye. Cassie then got into the van and as soon as she got inside; the van drove off into the distance. Roxie then turned around and walked back into the pub to help Nathan out with loading up everything else from the party into his uncle's car.

"Hey; how did it go out there? Was Cassie able to get a ride to the house with Paul, Landon and Calvin in the van?" Nathan asked Roxie once she had entered the pub.

"It was fine. Cassie was able to join the other boys once we finished loading up her belongings and most of the supplies in the van. She did, however; suggest for me to go with them, but I told her that I will get a ride back to the house from you." Roxie explained.

"Oh, wow; that was really nice of you to do that."

"Yeah, but I also wanted Cassie to get to know the guys a bit more." Roxie admitted.

"Oh, you've gone a bit sneaky there. Impressive." Nathan chuckled.

"Thanks; I try to do my best in tricking people to do things. Anyway; is your boys' food supply for these next few weeks done yet?"

"Almost. Annie and my aunt are going to just add a few more items and then we'll be good to go." Nathan replied.

"Cool; so what do you think of Cassie?"

"She seems like a nice girl. I can see why you girls are best friends. Ok; I know this might sound a bit off that I'm asking you this, but was it just me or did it seem like Paul was awestruck with Cassie today?" Nathan said.

"You noticed that too? I thought I was the only one that saw that!"

"Ok, good; because Paul just couldn't keep his eyes off of Cassie. I kind of felt bad for the poor girl," Nathan laughed. Roxie just giggled along in agreement with Nathan while he mimicked Paul's actions from before with Cassie. "You know; you've got a cute little laugh." he pointed out.

"Really; you think so?"

"Yeah, I don't know you're laugh is just so enjoyable to listen to every once in a while." Nathan told her.

"Oh; well thanks. Maybe if you keep impersonating the other boys or tell me more funny stories; you might hear me laugh more often." Roxie blushed.

"I'll try to make that happen then." Nathan promised. All of a sudden there was a long awkward silence between the two of them.

"Nathan, I-," Roxie started but to her surprise Nathan was about to say something as well. "Oh, you could go first." she apologized.

"No; tell me what you were going to say."

"Ok; I just wanted to thank you for everything that you and the boys have done for me these past few weeks. I know that things have been a bit stressful for you boys with getting the next album ready and with all of the Lexie and Cassie drama that I never really got to fully thank you for making all of this happen and I really appreciate all of it." Roxie explained.

"Oh, well your welcome." Nathan replied.

"Anyway I think I'm going to head to the back to see if Annie or your aunt need anymore help." Roxie said. Roxie then turned around and started to walk towards the kitchen. Meanwhile Nathan just sighed and watched Roxie walk away from him. All of a sudden; Uncle Hank walked into the pub with a crate full of glass cups.

"Oh, good; you're still here. Why don't you give your ol' Uncle Hank here an extra hand with putting away all the pints?" Uncle Hank offered.

"Huh; oh, yeah I'll come help you out." Nathan stated.

"Are you alright boy? You seem pretty off a bit there."

"Yeah, no; I don't know?! Roxie just has me thinking about-never mind you wouldn't understand."

"Oi; I may seem like an old fashioned whole in the wall pub owner, but when it comes to my family feeling confused about something I make sure I'm bloody there for them. Now spit it out or else I'll force it right out of you here in front of everyone." Uncle Hank ordered.

"Alright; no need to embarrass me in front of the whole bloody town. It's about Roxie. I think I might have feelings for her." Nathan retorted.

"Oh, so it is a girl and Roxie. I would have never thought I'd see the day my own nephew get all soft over some girl."

"She's not just some girl; alright. Roxie is completely different from all those other girls I've hung out with in the past." Nathan remarked.

"Really; how so? For all I know you don't have a great way of being in a relationship."

"See; this is why I can't tell you, my own uncle; anything because we always end up in a bloody argument." Nathan retorted. Nathan then poured himself a glass of whiskey and walked over to the lounge area and sat down on the couch in front of the fireplace. Uncle Hank silently sighed and went over to the couch and sat down next to Nathan.

"Look; I'm sorry I am making this whole thing a mess and that I've been hard on your arse these past couple of years. You know I'm just doing this because I'm promised your mum to watch over you." Uncle Hank stated.

"You don't think I don't know that? Every time that I find myself in a little run in with the coppers or find myself in a difficult situation; the first people that I even think of calling are you and Auntie Lizzie. The both of you went through every single bloody interrogation and issue with me and not once did you or Auntie Lizzie abandon me when I needed you the most. You both sacrificed everything so that I could make something of myself and now right when I'm finally thinking about doing something that is right you think there's something wrong with me." Nathan cried.

"You really do care about Roxie don't you?"

"It's crazy; Uncle Hank. Roxie has a way of making me forget about who I am or what everyone see's me as when I'm with the lads. She challenges me to not be the stuck up, spoiled bad boy that the press portray me as and to be the old me again. Not to mention; I love every moment that I spend with her. I don't even know why I'm even telling you this right now; you must think I'm a bit of a mad man." Nathan chuckled.

"Are you joking? This is great news! My own nephew actually has feelings for someone. Now my only concern is why you haven't asked her out yet. Roxie's a beautiful young woman; I don't see why it is taking you so long to take her out to at least dinner." Uncle Hank stated.

"That's the problem; I can't ask her out. Roxie wants to keep my relationship with her somewhat professional. If I ask her out; I'll loose Roxie's trust." Nathan sighed.

"Nathan; if you don't ask Roxie out, you also loose her. Either way you're going to miss out on your chance of making your life better. The thing is you need to get off your arse, be a man and, for god's sake; ask the poor girl out. Don't keep leading her on some false hope that some random guy is going to sweep her off her feet. You are a Hendrickson and we Hendrickson men make sure that when it comes to moments like this, we take every chance that we've got and if that's not good enough then we keep going."

"So you're suggesting that I should break the rules and ask out Roxie?"

"What I'm suggesting is that the next time you and Roxie hang out again, you suggest to take her out for lunch and give her a tour of the city. Who knows; maybe this will change the way she feels about you." Uncle Hank suggested. Then Tom walked into the pub and went over to join his cousin and father by the fireplace.

"Oi; sorry to interrupt your little pow wow, but Mum just wanted to let you guys know that her, Roxie and Annie are all done and that Roxie is waiting for you by the car Nathan." Tom told them.

"Cool; thanks mate." Nathan said. He then dumped the rest of his drink into the fire and started to head towards the kitchen.

"Oi Nathan," Uncle Hank called. Nathan then turned around and looked at his uncle." Good luck. I hope you get everything you've always wanted." he added. Nathan nodded his head and continued to walk towards the back of the pub.
