Chereads / Death For Life / Chapter 17 - Day out

Chapter 17 - Day out

Li supported his face on his hand lazily as he sipped on his coffee.

He swept his eyes before him where the usually expressionless youth was surprisingly eating his chiffon cake in relish.

He never knew that the frosty youth could even make such an expression.

"You like cakes?"

Qi Cheng paused and answered him thoughtfully"I like sweet things, especially chiffon cakes."

That was an unexpected answer but Li didn't pursue it any further.

"Emmm"

Qi Cheng finished his last bite and sighed blissfully. He was thinking of taking another one for Qi Yi.

"I don't like sweets"

"Huh?" Qi Cheng blankly looked at Li before realizing that he was saying that to him.

Qi Cheng awkwardly looked at the person before him who destroyed the peaceful atmosphere around them while being completely unaware. He pushed away his broken hair on his forehead with a quiet expression.

"It tastes weird" Li continued not done saying about his unusual sense of taste.

"Ah, I guess It tastes good for me?" Qi Cheng continued the conversation with difficulty not wanting to end it so soon.

"Surprisingly, you like sweets"

Li wasn't the type of person to start chatting with people without a sense of purpose so Qi Cheng wanted to keep the conversation going but he was finding it hard to continue.

Li wanted to order another cake to see if his extraordinary taste buds were still the same but he stopped when he acknowledged that it wasn't the time for that.

He lightly looked out of the window and slowly got up.

"Let's go" Li pulled the youth along with him not minding his dazed look. He took out the money from his pocket and handed it to the waiter hurriedly.

"Sir, the change-" The waiter raised his hand to stop the customer so he could return the spare money.

"Keep the change" Li walked out in large stride with the youth stumbling behind him.

"What happened?" Qi Cheng instinct told him that it wasn't a fortunate thing for Li to walk out of the cafe in such haste. In addition, he had good observation skills.

He easily found that something was wrong at that moment.

Li didn't reply but took him to a quiet alley which was the nearest to the cafe. He believed that it was going to be a hassle to explain it to him.

Li was thinking about how to start when a knife was suddenly thrown his way.

Li slightly turned his head missing the knife heading toward his head. The two people were surrounded in an instant.

Qi Cheng frowned looking at the people who surrounded them. They looked like they were after Li.

"Qi Cheng, Are you going to join me?" Li leisurely asked not minding the other people after all it wasn't his first time.

He didn't care whether Qi Cheng joined him or not but it would be difficult to keep him safe if he decided against it.

Whatever the case was, he was itching for a fight.

"I will" Qi Cheng admitted that he couldn't get out of it unscathed but it would be the same for his enemies too.

He would not back down, he couldn't and he didn't want to leave Li alone in this mess.

Li leaned against the alley wall and breathed out a long breath feeling that it wasn't so bad to fight after so long.

He felt refreshed.

He glanced at Qi Cheng who was sitting against his legs panting heavily with some appreciation.

He knew that the protagonist could hold up by himself but seeing with his own eyes how they fought him difficultly with his thin arms was a different thing.

"You don't know how to fight" Li stated confidently.

Qi Cheng merely looked up at him and nodded his head. He didn't learn to fight, he just picked a thing or two from the gangsters who were always after him from a young age.

He disliked getting in fights and disdained to get dirty but he thought that it would be a good thing to learn some tricks to keep himself safe.

He never thought that it would be used here.

Qi Cheng looked at the long and slender fingers as they pressed against the cell phone, he finally looked away when the call was answered.

"Feiqun, get here within ten minutes." Li unhurriedly reported his coordinates

"Bring others too."

Li simply hung up the call not bothering to explain anything.

"Are they here for you?" Qi Cheng asked uneasily. Li looked way too relaxed and unbothered as if it was a daily occurrence.

"Yeah" Li didn't think that there was anything wrong with it.

It was a novel and he was living inside a novel. There would be countless loopholes and ridiculous things that couldn't be explained by logic.

He would have never bombed the Xiao family factory if it was not a novel. He thought that it wouldn't matter how big the problem would be if it got out of hand.

After all, it was a novel, where would he get by thinking things with logic. He was confident that he hadn't broken the main storyline with his action and no major harm would be added to him.

He wasn't a lunatic either. He was just testing the story and the plot. He wanted to see how much he could push through and what was the bottom line.

He was gambling with his life and he certainly made the right bet.

"Who is it?" Qi Cheng didn't want to be thought of as a nosy person but he couldn't stop himself.

Li didn't expect to ask him so straightforwardly.

"Yu Yan"

Qi Cheng was surprised that Li would answer him. He furrowed his brows and a frown took place on his pale face while his eyes burned in anger.

Qi Cheng thought that his connection to his stepmother couldn't be that bad looking at his close relationship with his stepbrother. He couldn't help but feel horrible that his stepmother was trying to kill him.

Qi Cheng had always thought that he was miserable but he was unable to say that now.

Li looked at his expression and knew what he was thinking.

"It's alright" Li didn't want to him to struggle with his problems. He knew that despite looking cold and unapproachable, he was naive and kind.

He didn't want to stop it either. It would be too boring for him to live a normal life. He was simply addicted to the thrill and adrenaline.

Li ruffled the boy's hair somehow finding his company very comfortable.

"Boss, Are you alright?" Xu Feiqun hurried toward them worriedly.

He had gone to the coordinates his boss told him with the fastest speed with other subordinates. He was very worried about his boss, his boss was always targeted everywhere.

There was no safe place for him.

He paused in his steps looking at the two people who were calmly sitting against each other with dozen of 'corpses' around them.

He was suddenly speechless.
