Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

Liz's P.O.V

Two days later

I woke up with a gasp as I felt something heaving on my left hand. I looked over to see a cast on it. For a minute, I didn't remember what ended in getting me with a cast on my hand and back in a hospital bed, but then the memories came back.

"Aili," I breathed as I got out of the bed and rushed out of the room, "where is she," I kept chanting as I passed by each room, looking for her name. I almost passed a room that read Allison Ransom on it. "There you are," I muttered as I opened the door and stepped in, "Aili," I breathed once more when I saw her.

She had a ventilator over her mouth along with a cast around her neck.

The downside was that she was still out. I walked in further and grabbed her hand.

"She's been out ever since they put her under," a voice said from in front of me.

I looked up to see someone that looked similar to me, but she had hair that was the color of the sun. "Are you her doctor," I asked, and she nodded.

"One of them," she answered, "the name's Rachel, head doctor," she said, stretching her hand out.

I shook it, "Is she going to live," I asked her, and she shrugged

"I don't know," she answered, "she was going to die, but when you ordered your guard to bring her here, it changed everything for her. Nobody knows whether or not Aili is going to survive. This is hers and the decision of the fates," she explained, and I looked up at her

"Okay, two things," I began, "first of all, are you saying that I ordered Sam to take us here just like your King? Secondly, are you referring to fates as like the Fates from Greek mythology?"

Rachel smiled, "Yes to both of the questions," she answered, "I'm glad that you're not at all fazed by the fact that I'm a goddess in here with you."

I shook my head, "My surprise went away when I saw Sam flipping pancakes, and she changed from male to female right before us," I said, and she smiled

. "Seems reasonable," she said as I chuckled, "most of us don't stay to talk to mortals, but you seem special."

I raised an eyebrow, "Is that because I ordered Sam here?"

Rachel nodded, "Only two other people can do that, and that's the King and the Queen," she said. "There was a prophecy issued once this project started. It said that one group of soulmates should have the power to order the strongest guard as if they were following the orders of the King or Queen. Sam is the strongest guard out of all of them. She is the minor goddess of hidden brutality."

My lips thinned into a line, "Where is she anyway," I asked, and Rachel smiled, "what is that for?"

"Her hidden brutality comes out when she sees people close to her suffering and sees who caused it. It gets worse when the person who caused it is enjoying the results of their work," Rachel said

"Is she currently punishing the person who caused this," I asked, and she shrugged.

"She did that two days ago, but she's been up there with the gods and goddesses determining his fate," she answered.

"Who caused this?"

This was when Rachel stopped talking. Her gaze landed upon someone who was at the door. "Thank you for telling Liz everything up until now. I will answer this question," she said, and Rachel nodded before leaving the room.

"Hey Sam," I said as I saw her walk in and sit in a seat across from mine. She had lost the jacket to her pantsuit and looked dirty and bruised. "Everything okay," I asked as I looked at her dirty ginning face.

"It is now," she said, "your father and his guard were the ones who caused this. I beat them both into submission and then watched their trial in our throne room," she explained. "Those bastards had the balls to plead not guilty in front of the whole council," she said with a laugh.

"Where are they now," I asked as she smirked, and her eyes met with mine.

"There in the deepest part of Hell," she said, "our version of Tartarus, for example, but a hundred times worse."

I nodded, "As they well should be," I said, "what about his soulmate, where is she?"

Sam sighed, "She is still alive on this Earth as she had no hand in this," she began. "She wants to meet you to apologize on his behalf," she paused, "she's here now as the doctors are now looking for you. She is rich because she was once the First Lady, but once his soulmate realized that the president wasn't her soulmate, she dumped him. She's mostly rich because of her father's side of the family, but she's still working as if she's not."

I nodded, "Then I'll see her," I said, and she smiled. I then left the room, giving a promise to Aili's body that I would be back. I went back to my room and saw her there. "Good evening, ma'am," I said, getting her attention.

"You must be Liz," she said with a beaming smile as I nodded. Her smile faded once Sam stepped in behind me. "Why is she with you," she asked, paling.

"She's my guard," I answered, "Sam, why don't you get cleaned up? If she was to harm me, would she come to a hospital that has police surrounding it?"

Sam nodded, "I will do as you wish. I am only a call away," she said before disappearing.

"I'm sorry for what fear she may have given you; I did not know of what she did until just recently. I had only just now found out what she is the minor goddess of," I explained, and she nodded. "Take a seat, Ms. Valachovic. I will not harm as I heard that you had no hand in this planning."

I had sat back down on my bed as she sat in a chair next to me, "Thank you, Ms. Layzer," she began. "Please call me Donnie, as I understand that your father may have been my soulmate, I should treat you as one of my children."

"You don't have to if you don't want to," I said, "please call me Liz. I probably wouldn't have met you if it wasn't for this. As you may have guessed," I paused, "my father and I weren't always on the best of terms as I was growing up. I tried to distance myself from him as much as possible, even more so my friends than myself," I sighed. "You had no fault in this, so you don't have to apologize for his actions," I finished, and she smiled.

"Well, I want to do at least something for you and your soulmate," she said, then it was my turn to smile. "That's if she survives," she added, then my smile disappeared.

"That, we don't know yet," I said, "I saw her, she's still breathing on a ventilator, but she wasn't awake."

"Haven't you checked your wrist to see if her name's on it," she asked me.

"No, I haven't," I answered, "I have something keeping me from doing so; when I went in there, I was told that her fate was changed when I ordered my guard to take us here. I was told that it wasn't just her decision to wake up, but it was also the decision of some fates," I explained, and she nodded.

"Well, I hope everything is in your favor," she said, and I sighed

"So far," I began, "it hasn't been."

She nodded, "I understand that," she said, and I smiled, "this is why I'm funding everything for you. I have already talked to your mother, and she okays it," Donnie explained once I rose my eyebrows in surprise.

"You did now," I asked as she grinned.

She nodded, "Yeah, she told me how your relationship was with your father and everything. I sympathize with you since I was forced to be raised by my father's parents. He wasn't stable when my parents gave birth to me. My mother died when giving birth to me. They told me that he snapped when that happened and has been in jail since," she explained, and I let out a low whistle. "Yeah, Daddy issues happens to a lot of us," she said

"True that," I said, "at least yours wasn't trying to go and kill your soulmate and ruin the job you were working at."

Suddenly there was a rapid knock on the door. I looked to see Rachel standing there with a face full of surprise, "Aili," she began panting.

"What's wrong with her," I asked, jumping off the bed

"Allison is awake," she said panting, "she's panicking about something, and I think she wants you."

I didn't wait for her to say anything else; I ran down the hall and into her room, "Aili," I said once I walked in. "I'm here. What's wrong," I asked her once I grabbed her hand.

She looked at me, her eyes wide with shock, "The fates," she began

"What about them," I asked her

"They said that we're supposed to rule over a council of gods and goddesses," she said, and then the room went silent.
