Diana sat next to me with a mischievous smile. I smiled back at her and we've been like this for a few minutes. Staring at each other, laughing for no reason, and smiling like a maniac. Is this a staring contest or something? I don't know but I don't want to break our eyes at all. Competitive, huh? We laughed some more for god know what.
"Okay, what is it?" I asked, finally able to rest my face from smiling. Damn, that hurt my cheekbone! She laughed again and pinched my cheek, softly but enough to make me whine. What is wrong with everyone? Are they finally gone mad? Or am I going mad? Is this the suicide aftermath, where everyone went mad, smiling all day?
"Ouch! What?" I asked, half yelling since it's getting frustrating, slapping her hand off me.
"I just think love is so beautiful. Don't you think so?" I frowned. Here she goes again. I just don't get it. I mean, yes. Love is so much beautiful, I couldn't even describe it.
"What the hell are you talking about, Dee!" I'm quite pissed off now. What the hell is going on with everyone.
"No...it just...You ate a lot today. Usually, you just eat one to three spoons and you're done. Except for one or twice a month, when we ate Thai's food or Chinese food. Or pizza. Other than that, you will just taste it and be done. But...I can see, you're eating a lot today which I thought it's because of Ayden's love. I think it is the power of love." she said, grinning widely. She poked my shoulders and let out a small laugh. "That's a good change, over a month and you look like you're gaining weight!"
"Really?" I asked her, twisting my body and facing her. I looked at myself, am I? Did I gain some weight?
"Yeah! I could see something over here, and here, and here." she pinches my cheeks, down to my arms, down to my tights. "I can see a little. Just a tiny fat."
"Is it a good thing?" I asked awkwardly.
"Yes! It is a good thing! You eat a lot is a good thing, baby! You look healthier!"
"I did?"
"Should we try to measure your weight?"
"I don't think I've seen any weight scale in this house. Should I buy one?"
"Sure! Let's do that later, so tell me...how is it? Dating?" she smirks, raising her eyebrows twice. "Is it...fun? Are you happy?" I could feel that my heart slowly changed the paced. Damn it! I'm shy now. Why do she always like this?
"I learned a lot day by day. Uh...oh yeah! I forgot to tell you that I bought something for you. I went shopping and I bought something but it's at my house. I bought something for Jade too." Yes, I brushed off the question because it's embarrassing for me to talk about it.
She frowned but not long enough. She pulled a smile back and leaned forward then she poked my cheek.
"What did you buy for me?" she asked, flirtatious, she slips my hair behind my ear, crossing her legs and smiling, alluring. I let out a giggle at her act. If I'm into women, I might be temp does. Lucky her and me, we were both straight.
"Some outfit. I saw this blue floral summer dress, it's so beautiful! And I think you will look good in it, and the other one is a yellow plaid dress. I think both of them will look good on you. And I also bought you a new handbag, I don't know if you're going to like it though." I said, proudly. I must say, I am proud of myself for that.
She looked at me with the biggest smile.
"Did you go out and shop inside the mall?" she asked.
"Yeah! At WS Mall."
"How is it? Exciting?"
"It's fun but it's overwhelming, chaotic and loud. I almost fainted. But it was fun." I said, and I know I sound too excited now.
She grinning even wider.
"I'm so proud of you...and what else do you do? Tell me."
I smiled at her, we just haven't seen each other for four weeks, and there are so many things I want to tell her. Except for my obscene one, the one that I learnt from the website. I will keep that as a secret till I die. Only death will know about that.
"Umm...I tried to use the lift a few days ago, of course, Ayden was there too. But he didn't hold my hand and asked me to not close my eyes, and he let me fight the fear by myself, and last night I tried again. It's quite hard but I think if I keep trying, eventually, I will be okay." I said, smugly. Haha, I'm so proud of myself! Don't judge me!
"That was amazing! I'm proud of you! You're doing better day by day and yes, you will be better!" she said, hugging me tightly. I winced a little since her cheek brushed into my wound, making her push me immediately.
"I'm sorry." she glanced at my neck, and back to my eyes.
"It's okay, what about you? Since when did you get pregnant?" It's my turn now. She announced it abruptly, Jade almost got a heart attack. She suddenly blushed and laughed.
"You don't want to know about it. It's out of control," she said, shaking her head lightly. "Out of control."
I gulped as I heard that. Out of control? I didn't want to know. She burst into laughter and slapped my shoulder hard. It hurts! My hand slowly rubbed the burning place caused by her.
"Just don't talk about it, I don't want to hear that! I asked when did you know you're pregnant. Not how."
"Ah...haha! I thought you asked me how, I just knew two or three days ago. I was…" she stopped talking abruptly when my phone started screaming. We both looked at each other with a sigh and I lazily grabbed and answered it.
Who else if it's not Ayden?
"Hello?" I answered it in a low voice and Diana kept poking me, smiling widely.
"Hi, princess. I think me and Jade will be late, so can you eat lunch with Diana, just the two of you?"
"Oh...okay." Not going to lie, I'm a bit sad.
"I'm sorry. I will cook dinner, okay. Don't wait for us." he said. He sounds different.
And I'm a bit dejected. But it's fine. Diana is here, with me.
"Sure. But is everything fine?" I asked.
"Yeah, why?" he asked me back with a nervous laugh.
"You just sound different. Are you okay?" He chuckles at my question. I don't know what's funny or it's just him brushing off my question.
"Ah...I'm just a bit tired. There's a lot to do. I already met Mr Xavier and Jade's when to rent a moving truck and now we're tidying up your house. But I'm not sure if we can move everything today, maybe tomorrow we will continue the progression."
That is so fast. I glanced up at the clock, it took them just one hour to do everything? I mean not everything, like he said, maybe they will finish by tomorrow. But that's still fast! What the heck? Is that even make sense?
"Should I go there and help out?" I asked. Since it's my house. And I lived there forever. And at least...I want to say thank you to Mr Xavier too. He helped me a lot and now that I am moving out…
"No, just rest, okay. Just rest," he said. I smiled faintly. What is this weird feeling? It feels like he's not being sincere. I shake my head lightly.
"Okay." I turned my head toward Diana who suddenly tied her hair up and went to the kitchen. "Bye." I hung up and followed her step to the kitchen. Is she going to cook? Did she hear him?
"Are you going to cook lunch, Diane?" I asked and she shrugged. And she turned her head toward me and I'm stunned. Is she...crying?
"Wha-what's wrong?" I asked, coming closer to her and she burst into tears.
"Jade said he would bring back some scones but he lied! So I'm going to make it myself." She said, opening the fridge and crying even harder. "I don't even know how to make scones." She bawled. What the heck? Okay...it's a hormone. It's a hormone.
Scones? I never make one too.
"Should we go out and buy them? I think there's some bakery nearby." I asked, comforting her who was crying all of sudden.
"No...I think I'm going to take a nap." She walked past me and climbed upstairs, crying ugly and I didn't know what to do. I mean I never…
I stared into spaces. Slowly my hand went up to my stomach. My mind is blank. I shake my head lightly, maybe I should bake some scones for Diana. I quickly went to the living room to grabbed my phone. I opened the Safari app, and search for scones recipes. I went back to the kitchen and started to see if I have enough ingredients for baking scones.
"Hmm let's see… self-rising flour…" I opened the upper cabinet and took out a self-rising flour, and eyes back on the screen. Caster sugar, butter, buttermilk...do we have buttermilk? I went and grabbed caster sugar and butter, but unfortunately, we don't have buttermilk. I quickly searching on Safari if we can use another thing to replace buttermilk and yes, I could you use half cream and half milk.
"Okay...hmm..raspberry jam...we can used blueberry jam for that, and a whipped cream...done." I sort every ingredient on the countertop and started working on it. I started to preheat the oven over 220C fan-forced as the instruction said. I went and search for a baking tray in the other cabinet, and line baking paper on it.
My eyes switch to the screen and followed the next instruction. I sift flour with flour mesh along with sugar and salt into a bowl. Then I add butter. The next step said I need to using fingertips, rub the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Okay…
I went to the drawer where I keep plastic gloves and put them on, I started to do what the instruction said.
"What are you doing?" I glanced up at Diana's messy face, who suddenly shows up. I smiled at her with a small laughed.
"Scones. Romantic, huh?" I said, half-joking and she sat on the barstool, facing me, eyeing me mixing the flour.
"Uh-huh. You are romantic. I wish Jade act like you." she said sourly.
"He is, he makes a burrito for you this morning." My flour finally looked like breadcrumbs and my eyes were back on the screen. "This is my first time, so don't expect much from me," I said.
"Okay, I will make our lunch soon," she said, smiling. Mood lifted. "By the way, you asked how I know I'm pregnant, huh?"
I nodded, making a gaping hole in the centre of the mixture, I add my half-half milk. I went to my knifes drawer, grabbed my flat-bladed knife, and back to my bowl, stir until a sticky dough forms. I turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until just smooth.
"I missed three weeks, and I felt sluggish so I went to see a doctor, I didn't expect it at all, and when the doctor said I'm pregnant, I was lost. But I know that Jade will take care of me and the baby, he's so responsible, sometimes it's suffocating. I was about to surprise him on our anniversary but I blurted out last night." She said, laughing. I smiled at her, doing the final step.
"Congrats! I'm happy for you, hope you will have a wedding before the due date." I said, started to roll the dough following the instruction. I started to cut out scones until I have twelve scones.
"I want to have a wedding a few weeks before my labour day. So you know, I'm wearing a preggy wedding dress, with a huge stomach, and wearing a white dress, walking on the aisle, like a penguin. Don't you think it's cute? And all of sudden, right after the vow, I was in pain, water broke, and we all rushed to the hospital and I'm going to give birth with a wedding dress on. Beautiful, right?" she said, eyes twinkling. She's mad!
"You're just insane. It will be chaotic." I said, pushing the scones inside the oven. She just laughed, slamming her hand on the countertop. "Okay, done. It'll be done in fifteen minutes."
"Okay, my turn. Get out." I slowly walked out of the kitchen with a laugh. "Nice kitchen though."
"I know right, for a person who only cooks Japanese." And I don't even know if he cooks before we're dating. Okay, whatever, I'll just clean the house now.
