Chereads / Rainbow After Tomorrow / Chapter 43 - Another step.

Chapter 43 - Another step.

Today is the second day of packing my stuff and yes, I'm here to help! Ayden told me not to worry about it but with Diana's veto power, even Ayden can't say no. She insisted to come and both men can't say anything back. I think that's the power of a preggy mommy. Diana is helping out too, but since she's in her first trimester, she just packs up my clothes, some of them are hers and I bring out everything from my bathroom. Again, most of them are hers. As if she stayed here too.

I spaced out. I never knew that it would be this chaotic. I mean...I don't even know what I should do. Most of my furniture will be sold at Mr Xavier garage sale since I would not need it. But as I thought, moving out will take a whole lot of time.

I sat down and grabbed another piece of luggage, a smaller one that Ayden bought just now because he probably knows… I have a lot of stuff to pack. Again, most of them are Diana's.

I packed all of the toiletries, perfumes, Diana's skincare, body care, hair care, sanitary pad, and everything inside that luggage.

"I'm tired already," Diana whined. Yes, and I am too. I glanced at her task, she didn't even do much. She just needs to pack the clothes though.

"Should we run away together and eat ice cream?" I asked and her eyes immediately flickered. We were smirking at each other but got invaded by someone's small laugh. We both looked at the door, as Ayden and Jade put on their poker face, picking up the next boxes. That would be the last two, just some kitchen stuff and bedding linens.

I don't have much but quite a lot too. It's in the middle of that!

I finally zipped the luggage and scooted closer to Diana to help her pack our clothes. Ours, I repeat, ours!

"Why do you have too many clothes?" she whined again and I scoffed. I knew it! She will say that. She is such a bitch!

"Excuse me, Miss? Look! This is yours, this one too, and these!" I threw all of her clothes to her face, making her scowled at me. Her face turned sour and she's pouting.

"Ah, you can have it all, I already gave it to you, so now it's your clothes!" she said, throwing it back to me. Oh wow, that attitude!

I glanced at her lace lingeries that she left here and was disgusted. I threw these to her with a snicker.

"Ops, these are yours too. It would be weird if you give that to me too, what are you, pervert?"

She bites her lips, searching for something to throwback to me. Wow, that's it! I throw it back and she threw it back to me.

"Ladies...ladies…" I heard Jade's voice, from the door, sighing as he walked in. We both glared at him with pouts. I could see Ayden's face hardened before he let out a small laugh. But soon after he laughed out loud as if he couldn't hold it back anymore. What the hell is he laughing at?

Jade was also smiling and shook his head.

"Are you packing or making it even messier, ladies?" he asked. Ayden was already on his four, holding his stomach as he laughed.

It's annoying but his laugh is so cute which make me laugh too. I glanced at the clothes that had already become messy and unpacked and everywhere since we keep tossing them to each other. And Diana already smiling bashfully, picking up her lingerie and hiding it behind her back.

"Maddie started it first," she said, with a wicked smile. I gasped, how could she!

"Alright, alright. Both of you need to hurry, okay. We can wait forever but, Mr Xavier won't." Jade said, glancing at the man that was still laughing silently.

That's my boyfriend, everyone. Laughing. How I wish I can punch his face. He slowly dragged his body and rested his face on my lap, still laughing.

"Stop laughing…" I muttered and started to pack my clothes again. And Diana's! Jade just sat next to Diana and whispered something to her, making her gleam. Her hands work even faster than mine and I somehow feel competitive and work faster than her. And eventually, we're done packing my stuff.

I smiled proudly. I did it!

I looked down to my laps as I felt a stare that already burned a hole in my face. He was smiling ear to ear, and that's hot!

"You did it," he said, smiling wider and sat up. His hand rubbed my lap, making me flinch before he stopped what he's doing.

"What the fuck are you doing?" I heard a stern voice, questioning him. And he looked at me anxiously.

I mean, it's not me who is asking that, babe. It's Jade. Look at him, not me.

"I thought my head might be heavy and I rested my head on your lap for a while, I thought your legs were probably numb. I'm sorry," he said. Okay, that's cute!

"Awee...let them be," Diana said, making me feel the heat rush to my face. "They are in love, baby. It's not like he did something wrong."

Ayden turned his head and smiled at Diana and glanced at Jade with anxious eyes. He's genuine. How do I know it? Because he never shows that kind of face when he is with Jade.

"Sorry," he said, laughing lightly. I can see his ears turning red.

Jade let out a heavy sigh and stood up, he helped Diana to stand up too.

"Let's go. We're done now," he said, grabbing the clothes luggage and holding her hand to get out of this house.

I looked at the empty house. It's the first time I and Jade rent this. Back then, we used to just sleep at our employer's house or room. They weren't that nice but at least they have the humanity to let fifteen years old kids work with them and even let them stay with them. Even though they will cut our salary as rent. They even gave us clothes.

We saved money and ate leftover bread that I brought back from the bakery. Sometimes, we only ate two to three bites and saved them so we could eat them again the next morning and night.

Jade used to be chubby but since we saved up hard, we only ate what I could bring back home, thus he's getting skinnier. And we finally were able to rent this house. Our first house. Nr. Xavier gave us half of the rental rate since we were minors.

We started with this empty room. Slowly saved up to buy one blanket and one pillow. And then we were able to buy some food, mostly instant ones since it's cheaper. Sometimes we eat the bread I brought home again, and even if it's moulded, we still eat it.

And slowly, this house filled with furniture. We bought a second-hand bed. Single bed. The one that I used. It's sturdy enough. But Jade keeps growing which makes him sleep on the floor.

"It's fine, I'm your brother. Just sleep on the bed, I can sleep on the floor," he said.

It's cold. Especially at night.

We ended up breaking the piggy bank that we made by ourselves. It's a cracker that we found in the garbage. Just to buy a blanket.

Back then...what can fifteen years old orphans do?

We are both getting skinnier and I…

I closed my eyes tight and opened it again.

"Are you okay?" I glanced at the man who faithfully waited for me next to me.

I smiled at him and laughed.

"Yeah, I just remembered about the first time and Jade moved in. He moved out first. And I can't believe I moved out too."

His face looked like he was stunned but soon after he smiled wider.

"And how are you feeling?"

I looked at the window in front of me. And I looked up to the ceiling. There was supposed to have a fan, but Jade took it off and again, he broke the piggy bank and installed the air conditioner instead.

My second attempt.

I looked at him again and laughed.

"Never better!" Yes, never better. I feel good, leaving this house. I'm a bit sad since this is my first house and there's a lot of sweet memories here. Like how we celebrated Jade's new job with a piece of bread, and I went home and Jade's brought Diana's home. How I watched Jade trying so hard to heal himself for her. And how he finally got a better job. And how he confessed his feelings to Diana in front of our door. I can hear it. They are loud. Or how Diana celebrated her graduation with us here with only mineral water.

Or maybe how I got a new job and all of us celebrated it with a tiny cupcake. Or how we celebrated Diana's first job and Jade's promotion. And how I was saved by Ayden.

But...the painful memories here were way too much and I almost lost again.

I feel better, leaving this place. I don't have regrets. None. And I'm so happy that I can leave this home, finally, without a single burden at all.

This is my small step. From now on, I know it won't be easy. But...I am prepared.

"Should we go?" he asked, and I nodded. I stood up slowly, and he grabbed the luggage and my hand tightly.

"Thank you, for helping me out again," I said. He smiled at me.

"My pleasure, princess. And I will do anything for you."

"You keep saying that." I played with his pinky finger.

"Because I meant it, I will do anything for you. Whatever it cost. Anything. Just for you. I meant every single word I said, even though I have to kill someone for you, I'll do it." he said, seriously.

"That's a bit creepy. I won't stay by your side if you kill someone, I hate criminals. I hate violence too." I said, in a serious manner too.

He let out a laughed. "Sometimes love can drive someone mad, baby. Especially when they see someone they love hurts. Therefore, I rather you hurt me instead of hurting yourself. I'll do anything for you. Of course, I'm not going to kill someone, but...if they hurt you, they're asking for it."

"That's still creepy as hell," I said, half laughing but still get anxious when he said that. He always means every single word he said. If he did, it will be a disaster.

"I'm joking. I'm weak. I will try my best to protect you though." He said, laughing. But that wasn't reassuring me at all. I squinted my eyes toward him, and he just flashed his beautiful teeths to me, along with his cute dimples.

He leads me out, and he locks the house with the key. That would be the last time I saw that key. I won't be seeing this key anymore. Or hold it. Or using it. I smiled wider.

My chest...inside my chest, it feels like something has been lifted. Like the small lump inside my heart finally gone. As both of us step down the stairs, I feel like I'm moving forward, leaving part of my past behind.

If this is what people call the healing process, then I proudly said, yes, I am healing.
