I walk slowly down the hall, and think about the day ahead of me. I'll need to fly for about 2 hours to reach the river, and then follow it towards the East for about 3 hours. I'll need to take a break around that time so that I can setup camp for the day. I wont need to worry about hunting for a few days since I have some food in my pack. I reach the exit doors and push through them. As I walk into the sunlight I can see Nallaka and her mom driving off. I wave my hand at them before I set my eyes on the skies. Adjusting my bags so that I have nothing interferring with my wings, I slowly spread them out. Flapping a little I begin to jog towards the stair case, gaining speed I begin to run full speed forward. As I reach them I jump forward and spread my arms and wings, I feel the wind tickle my feathers and begin flapping. Soon I am flying and gaining altitude. Soaring over the clouds, everything below me is a soft blur of green and brown. I can see the small road winding around the trees. I set my eyes towards the sky and enjoy the flight.
Elle Prolgue
Its another sunny day here in Erinhide. The river is shining and the air is nice. I lay back against my favorite tree and close my eyes, nothing could be better than this I think. Soon I hear footsteps and someone talking. Reed? Or is it Yun? one of them is saying something about food. I slowly wake up and try to hear whatever it is they are saying. I stretch and hear laughter. "About time she woke up!" I hear one of the boys say, "She only woke up because you mentioned food!" The other roared. Ugh, My older twin brothers, Reed and Yun, are both here waking me up for what I assume is dinner. "Food is my only weakness", I say to the boys as they roar with laughter again. By this time I am awake enough to tell the two apart. Yun is slightly shorter and has no freckles on his pretty face, while Reed is a tall thing with a few freckles splattering his nose and cheeks. Both are considered cute. Twin boys at the age of 25, working on our parents farm. Yun at 5'11 and Reed at 6'1, both tanned, with green eyes and black hair, muscular and very energetic, they are adored by most. While I, Elle, the only girl, and 3rd born child to the Barrenclaws, sit at 5'10, a slight tan coloring on my pale skin, with brown eyes and brown hair, am not far from being average.
We make our way towards the farm and our home, where are parents and our younger brother, Mallax are waiting for us to return. Our parents are Kallen and Reisa Barrenclaw. We live in the small town of Erinhide. Erinhide is smack dab in the middle of two huge mountains. Jolnet, the mountain to the east, and Irrina the mountain to the west. The closest town to us is a two day drive to the east. So, we dont get many people and the town mainly relies on each other to survive. My families farm feeds the town, along with the grocery store and the rancher who provides the meat. Most families here are rich and come from towns on the other side of Jolnet. This is a vacation spot. But, that means we make good money from an honest living. Why we live here? I have no idea. My dad is well educated as is my mom. But, they said its peaceful so thats why were here. NO complaints I guess. At 16, I am what my moms calls, Nosy. Always wondering about things. Like why no one from the towns west of Irrina ever come to visit.
Mom says not to worry, I'll find out one day, though I have no idea what she means by it. By the time we get to the porch I can smell moms cooking. My stomach growls as we open the door. I can hear my family chatting at the table as I approach the dining room, this really is the life. I say as I sit down to eat the chicken fried steak my mom cooked. Nothing could ever be better than this life. Or so I thought.
