"How is it that you were able to stop reincarnating? It sounded like it was something important." Now that they are away from Wendy, he was concerned about the reincarnation ordeal which Wendy spoke of.
"Wow, as soon as we get away from her you are singing a different tune? Are you concerned that I might suddenly lose control of myself and go on a killing rampage?" Artemis wished she could say she wasn't a tiny bit offended but she was. "I have stopped reincarnating for a long time and nothing has happened as yet. I have not once felt a change in my body thank you very much. Some acquaintance you are."
"I am not automatically thinking you're evil now but it does sound concerning. Won't you receive a longer punishment for not doing something so important? These elders and Wendy already seem so upset with you."
"Nothing I do will make them like me and I enjoyed not having to kill myself. If they were so worried about me hurting humans again, why didn't they just get rid of my existence completely? What is happening now is their own fault. Now be quiet so that I can read this book on our way back," Artemis said, opening her old diary which was the big reason she came outside today.
Alexander wasn't sure what to think of Artemis at this point. Just when he thought he had her figured out, something else came to surprise and throw him off. An evil spirit being asleep inside of her didn't sound good especially when she was supposed to reincarnate to keep it from waking up and she hadn't been doing this for quite some time.
"Are you certain that you will be fine?" He couldn't stop himself from asking again.
"Yes. Are you going to plan to kill me now? Do you regret not helping her back there? We can turn around to go find her and you can ask her to help you. Just be mindful that anyone not on my side is my enemy and considered the losing side in my eyes. Be careful with the decision you make right now," she stopped walking to allow him to make a choice.
"Since when was I on your side? I'm forced to listen to what you ask of me," he held up his hand with the bracelet to show her what she had clearly forgotten. She made it quite clear in the beginning that she had plans to use him and now she was telling him about picking the right side? He said he would help her back then if it meant no innocent human would get hurt but she denied the offer. "I don't have any plans to go back there to get her help but as a human who could die if you lose control, I have the right to truly know if you are okay."
Artemis remained silent staring up at Alexander not sure how to reply. After all of these years, she had never experienced anything out of ordinary. Why would everything go wrong now and cause her to go on a killing spree or whatever it was they were so afraid of?"Nothing in my life has changed for me to go on a rampage."
"You plan to get rid of the king and take revenge on your elders for imprisoning you for so long." That sounded like a whole lot of change in someone's life to bring out a bad side of them.
"Good point. However, no one knows my body better than I do and I assure you that it does not feel out of the ordinary. I do not feel as evil as I should. Trust me, I'll know when something is wrong. Happy? Will that help you sleep at night? How about giving you a daily rundown of how I am feeling?" She sarcastically replied.
"That would be helpful," Alexander patted her on her back and proceeded to walk ahead of her back to the forest.
Artemis stood still watching the back of Alexander as he walked away from her. For the time they had spent together she couldn't quite understand the man. He wasn't speaking to her like she was his enemy. He talked to her as if he were concerned about a friend misbehaving but she didn't see them as friends. They were more like acquaintances.
"I need him to hate me or something because this nice behavior is freaking out," she was prepared to have some entertainment in watching him disobey her orders or crucify her for killing humans in the past but he was doing no such thing. When will it hit him how much of enemies they are?
Had the revelation of him being a siren made him act differently? No! He was nonchalant like this before she brought that up.
"He must be insane. He did say his mother dropped him on his head. How can the general defend a God and worst of all, not turn on her the moment an opportunity presents itself for him to be free? Was this a plot all along? Did he know I was a Goddess and plotted to have me bring him to the forest?" She squinted her eyes suspicious of Alexander and his behavior throughout this entire predicament.
"Artemis!" Alexander randomly called her name when he glanced over his shoulder and saw that she had stopped.
This made Artemis jump out of shock before moving again. Her chest felt weird once again out of the blue, "Please don't tell me there is something wrong with me now," she muttered.
